Can't say I like the idea of Ro becoming a 12 disposal, 10 hitouts, 1 goal per game forward for a year before asking for a trade to a club where he can play his best position.

He's amongst a handful of my favorite players, but if we get to the end of year and Dodson is still looking a lot more promising than Heath, and we pick up TDK, my head says we are better off trading big Ro at a premium.

They better not get a priority pick this year.

They traded was it, 3 first rounders for Kelly ?

Then the above deal.

At some point you need to sleep in the bed you make…

The kangaroos were granted priority picks for their shitty trading.

I feel like the AFL should be able to reject deals if it means there is a chance of priority picks going to be handed out..

I can't see them getting a priority pick unless they don't win a single game. They suck, but they haven't sucked for anywhere near as long as North have. North Melbourne have been stinky for like 7 years, haven't made finals since 2016 and have finished 17th or 18th in the last 5 seasons.

West Coast made the finals every year from 2015 - 2020 and won a flag in there. Let them collect a few more spoons.

Agreed but I reckon we will still need a bigger bodied bull who crunches and hunts the opposition ala Josh Dunkley. Brisbane's bigger mids really exposed Sydney's midget fleet in last years GF.

Macrae is filling that role at present but we need a kid coming through. Steele is a bit of vanilla midfielder these days re rarely plays with that alpha male attitude. Perhaps Dalrymple worked so hard to get Boxshall in last year as he sees him playing exactly that role. Then we have Garcia and Windhager who are both hard nuts, Phillipou projects more of an outside burst mid, than a player that will make space for his team mates.
Have to disagree on the assessment of Pou.

He is 190cm, powerfully built, not particularly fast, but not slow.

He has the attributes to be a Petracca style player. An inside bull with the ability to do a little bit on the outside and be super dangerous up forward.

But he 100% can be that big-bodied bull that we crave. I don't see him even close to being a majority outside player.

I dont blame Reid if he wants to go. A team with basically no young talent includes pick 3 in a deal for OOC Matt Owies. How are they ever going to get off the bottom of the ladder with deals like that. No point wasting any more time there.
100%

And Bo Allen ain't doing anything really.

Their WAFL side is so bad. There's literally no talent coming through.

The AFL haven't got a clue.
Back when Saints were playing Grand Finals, Melbourne were languishing at the bottom.
To give Melbourne a leg up, they gave a priority pick, which Melbourne used on Scully.

BUT: then they put a system in place that allowed their priority pick player to be stolen from them, ( GWS ).
OK , they got a good reward for it, but, that didn't address why they got the priority pick in the first place, two years after the pick ( and even the best players aren't top of the game after two seasons ), and they were back to square 1.

In their wisdom, Melbourne then decided that they should use their entire compensation on a mini-draft , netting them Jesse Hogan , who was 17 and couldn't play until 2015.

So Melbourne's 2009 priority pick finally gave them some sort of performance lift in 2015.

So what is a priority pick meant to do?
Why not put some guidelines in place?
Expansion side or not, why not preclude priority picks from that crap, on the grounds that the club was given it because they needed it?

What could we get back for a 31 year old Marshall who was just relegated to being a low output backup ruck for a year though? Pick 30? Not worth it at all.

Agree, accountants know the price of everything and the value of nothing.

Salary cap has to be spent on someone.

We are going to spend between around 15 million ( they seem to be hiding the minimum ) and $15 800 000 on players.
We will spend that much no matter what players are getting what individual salary.

As long as the guys on the big bucks aren't spudding it up, and the guys we want to keep aren't walking out due to lack of pay, its totally irrelevant.
If we paid Hannebury too much, it only stopped us paying someone else to much. ( We were already paying Billings and Gresham too much ).

First round pick from a contending team.
His birthday is November , so he'll be 30 for the 2026 season.

Would have been nice if we traded on draft night to get trainor who slid right down and looks like the kind of defender we need.
Clubs weren't willing to take North's future first for the relevant picks, we had no chance of trading in. We got Tauru, we got Barret, let's see how they go in time rather than throwing them onto the field straight away because we have to.

1. No shiit einstein
2. Yes, if they don’t match the contract, we get him for free. Kind of the whole point of the thing for people playing along.

I think thats why they called it free agency.
13.6 million is not free champ. There is also opportunity cost.
Everyone knows what SFA is but to say it's free sounds ignorant.

I don't think we'd trade him this year. Imagine we ship Marshall off for a pick in the 20s and then TDK gets injured. Heads would roll

So you wan't Marshall as a back up?
Way i see it , if for whatever reason Marshall isn't close to the midfield, its a waste.

Everyone knows it means we don't have to cough up draft picks, which are worth more than salary because of the salary cap minimum.

Honestly I'd rather just keep Marshall as our ruck for the next 5 years on 900k and spend the 1.7k per year on a gun mid or two

Marshall looks like he’s lost a step this season, the enormous workload might be catching up with him, not sure we can rely on him as the sole ruck for that long.

Stick him up forward and take those F50 Ball Ups and give TDK a chop out is a way to extend his career.

I think it's more that he was rushed in underdone and forced to take the full workload from round 2 onwards. Ro is a very ordinary forward and an AA quality ruckman. The bloke had a fractured pelvis. Would have preferred that we let the cheap battering ram (Boyd) take the brunt of the force for a bit longer rather than rushing Ro back
