Shannon Neale is a big no thank you from me. I’d prefer playing Gallop.

Did anyone watch Jack Payne own him on the weekend? He couldn’t even get basic positioning right in 1v1s. Imagine having him as your no.1 banana playing on the best oppo key defender each week. It’ll be a bloodbath.

People suggesting we recruit Shannon Neale, Ollie Lord, Pat Voss - how far we have fallen....

Bringing back Cornelius is as logical as any of those 3.

I only know who pat voss is because of how much he has been spudding it up at freo.

Ollie Lord would make a nice vfl upgrade on Brandon Ryan

I think Hippy could be a decent backup ruck option (if and when he is fully fit again). He's of the age and height that he could fill in that Daniher style role in the middle of as much competing on the ground as in the air.

If Hippy rucks next year it gives us a heap more options about who can play mostly as a forward (Gallop, Morris or whoever)

I agree Hippy back up ruck is the best of a lot of bad ideas being discussed on here. Will go ok at boundary throw ins and may give us an added boost behind the ball. Thought he did ok in the second half as KPD in that one game last year.Might need to close our eyes and look away when he contests centre bounce though.

Speaking of bad ideas, has anyone followed how Gillet has been going in SA iirc. Mid season draft?

Edit also agree when Hippy is fully fit

And to be honest in Joe's first year or so with us, it was basically look away at centre bounces if he was up against an actual ruckman. But realistically it happens maybe 2-3 bounces a game, its actually not a huge number to concede the tap (just body up to keep pressure on) and contest at the ground level

It's also easier to read a tap for a mid that you know you're going to lose than a 50/50 tap.

Gillet had 1 effective disposal in his only game so far this season

everyone at essendon knew daniher was out the door for an entire season. he was a great contributor to club culture from what we have heard. i dont see how allen meeting with a senior coach he has an existing relationship with makes him potentially toxic at all.
I agree Allen doesn't seem the right fit for us from a player perspective or a personality type.

However, I'll bet Jo met with the Lions several times before he signed, in fact when it was announced he had already moved to Qld and they had to send someone to Melbourne to get what was left in his unit, he wouldn't even go back to Melbourne. I think Allen has probably done nothing different except he lives in a 'fish bowl' every person in Perth would know him and the chances he could do anything without someone seeing him is impossible. I suppose he could have waited for a Melbourne based match and slipped away from the team but more than likely that would get out as well. His next contract is going to be worth $4 or $5 million so I think he is entitled to look around at what's his best price even if he is captain where he is. I know when I was in the corporate world the 'headhunters' came calling regularly and yeah, sometimes you're tempted to find out what the offer actually is. Footy is their job after all and they have very short careers in life expectancy terms.

I just don't think he is right because I see him as a bit of a banged up lumbering giant, I'd prefer a bit of x-factor and a good defensive forward once the ball hits the ground.

Voss is a 20yo big athlete, kicking for goal is his problem, I need to get a life but watch 6 games of footy a week and reckon he will make it FWIW

He’s third or fourth banana at Freo isn’t he? I don’t think he’d work well in our area of need which is a number one banana. I think he would do poorly in that role for us.

FWIW I put a lot of mayo on my posting (a lot of the time), so you need to read me with a grain of salt with exaggeration in mind.

All good Elixuh enjoy your posting, I too hope the answers to our prayers are already on our list, am just enjoying talking footy :)

I still wake up in a cold sweat with memories of a game against the dogs at Marvel, watching Joe "compete" in the centre bounce. Then I silently cry myself back to sleep when I remember we no longer have that beautiful miracle of a man playing for us.

I don’t believe anyone has actually suggested any of those players as an actual target.

More so young KPP players at opposition clubs that people like .

As I said, Neale would be an unrealistic target, as he would be to hard to get out of Geelong.

We have what we have for now and can't do anything about it this year. Obviously we're talking to players but I'd like to see where everything sits at season's end. Still a lot to play out. If we're still a successful club we'll be able to fill the gap , or maybe we won't need to aggressively.

What the?!?

From a personality perspective, Allen is exactly the type of player we would target. He’s the same as Dunkley and Will Ashcroft.

My reading of the situation is that the Eagles have low balled Oscar, fair chance his probable injuries are the reason why, and he’s taken this personally, feels jilted and hurt, and is now looking out for number one, and doesn’t care how it plays out in the public.
I just don't think he is right because I see him as a bit of a banged up lumbering giant, I'd prefer a bit of x-factor and a good defensive forward once the ball hits the ground.
How his injuries have affected him athletically, and his ability to ruck part time really concern me.

Perth is an AFL fishbowl, even the Eagles runner gets recognised on the street

Who's to say Allen didn't meet with Fagan, Danny Daly or Dom Ambrogio when the Eagles where in town for Rd 2?
No one in Brisbane is going to recognise Allen, unless they are AFL nuffies.

But the Lions have proven to be a bit more stealthy when it comes to meeting opposition players, just look at the the Neale/Ambrogio meeting in Darwin in 2018

All 3 were mentioned in the space of about 8 posts.

In the context of discussion on this forum, that constitutes suggesting an ‘actual target.’

Inside Trading
Brisbane young gun Levi Ashcroft has a two-year extension ready to unlock once the AFL's round six barrier passes after a pre-draft agreement.
...
Because the AFL's first standard contract is now extended to three years, tying 2024 draftees like Ashcroft through to the end of 2027, it means the extra two years will lock Ashcroft in for his fourth and fifth years at the club until the end of 2029.
