Absolutely!!! He was training under the coaches noses all summer, so there's zero chance his selection had anything to do with Austin. As Wickzki said, Austin would just had to tick him off, which would have been a fait accompli if Voss and co wanted him on the list.

Absolutley shithouse selection when we had KPP's like Philips and McMahon there for the taking. Huge risk not taking a tall, and it's likely gonna bite us right on the bum as the season progresses. Hopefully McMahon is there at our pick in the MSD.
WindyHill Mob apparently interested, hopefully we offer him a spot, who knows what he could produce, handy backup…

Not sure if this post is allowed in this thread but is the club in the mix to recruit Leek Aleer from GWS at the end of the year?
Reported a few weeks ago that he's already resigned to moving clubs at the end of the season.
GWS will want a high price but when all is said and done he's played only 12 games in 3-4 seasons.
There is apparently a handful of clubs interested in Aleer, he’ll be out priced financially and possibly over priced trade pick wise…

Issue is both McMahon & Phillips were right in front of us and we didn’t pick them and preferred to back Young as our KP depth. Says a lot about them

I know we need another tall but we also need ones that can play and contribute.

I can tell you that both (McMahon especially) were less than impressive.

Anyone on Melbourne’s list we want a nibble at ?
Not much, Spargo as a small forward the most realistic, probably cost a second rounder…
McVee is a young talent on the rise 21yrs 185cm rebounding defender who would probably demand from Dee’s around a late first possibly, WA player East Fremantle

Remember your feedback on a number of our reserves players and train ons, only got to the main training session in the new year…
Was a bit disappointed about Phillips thought he would provide a decent KPD backup, McMahon i thought May have been another solid backup as a tall forward…
Unless you’re up there at training for the sessions, there’s no chance you can get a proper gauge of how individuals standup in a number of areas…

Start of pre season I was convinced we would take one of Durdin McMahon or Phillips if not 2.

None stood up and TBH were a long way off and disappointing

McMahon gets pushed around way too easily. He doesn’t play like a KPP. He’s a more mobile type. Plays more like a 3rd tall at best

Phillips was okay but has obvious weaknesss. If I was to select another tall it would be him and keep Young forward

Selection could well depend on next 3-4 weeks before draft. If we can’t make finals then look at some talented kids in MSD rather than recycling and give O’Keefe and Lemmey a go to see if they can stand up

Back in the day, played with many good trainers that did nothing on match day.
We have fallen for this trap (Evans), Dustin Fletcher would be classed as a terrible trainer yet played 400 AFL games was an absolute gun.
It's a tough call and one I would not like to be making but, going for two small forwards (Evans White) looks a bad move for list balance. Having 6 small forwards to pick from while essentially having Young as tall back up with the next best in development, is questionable.

Your point is fair

Issue is on game day Fletcher stood up. Both McMahon & Phillips have been on AFL lists and tried and failed

This is why Evans selection is perplexing. Been at two clubs and delisted yet we pick him and I don’t really understand why

Wouldn’t be discounting the situation of EH in this, and probable plugging a gap for him. HFF is an important role that needs filling.

Had we had more of a running with H’s predicament (later in Feb?), perhaps our focus would have been swayed.

There’s also the full pre-season to impress by the talls, that obviously wasn’t too impressive - see above posts.

The money St Kilda are offering is ridiculous for someone who has done as little as TDK has.

Also ridiculous because it is St Kilda, a non-contender and at $1.5-1.7 million a year there is a very real chance that TDK is going to coast like plenty of other high priced players have done at non-contenders

Yep. What I don’t get is why chase TDK and pay massive money when you have Marshall?

Is it another Gawn/Grundy debacle?

A debacle waiting to happen.

It seems that SOS wants to get one over us, but hasn’t thought this one through with Marshall already at the club.

Fair point...

I don't think many of us understand the Evans selection tbh, hopefully he can put egg on our faces with a surprise.

TDK’s first 3 games were pretty good but the last two have been average.Cameron gave him a bath to be honest and the eagles ruckman just ran him around.

Next week is his big test.

Agree on both points.
Common sense says that a player that has played only 3 games per year can't demand a huge salary, or obtain a high pick for his club but unfortunately common sense is an extremely rare commodity.

Xavier Lindsay top of list, Chandler, Windsor, Sharp on the cheap. Rivers and Petracca would be handy but exxy.
Harry Sharp is playing nicely this season. Kind of player that we should have taken from Brissia a couple of seasons ago.

Has wheels and a nice kick. Chandler would be perfect for us, would take Fogs spot. Nice left peg, strong over the footy and

durable.

Pretty obvious to me, that Tom is playing sore. Without H, Young must play and depending on how Tom is feeling. Maybe

Tom spends more time forward and Lewy should go okay against big Xerri. Who seems to be playing very sore himself atm.

Still think it would be negligent to spend over 2.5 million on your salary cap on ruckmen

I agree even though I can see the strategy at hand.

They'd be better served buying one of the budget versatile rucks and pushing their wheelbarrow full of cash on another weakness.

The biggest problem with the Saints list is their lack of A graders. They've got quite a few B-B+ players but not enough absolute class. TDK will hold them back from getting what they need as his salary would be close to the equivalent of two.

We have the opposite problem. Enough A graders to do something when we're up and about but the drop off is too significant.
