On the plus side there's a Canberra game this year.

On the minus, we're 1-5 at Manuka and it's a Saturday night game in the middle of winter. It's quite likely to be below freezing by kick off.
I was living in Canberra in 1997 and probably chatted with you at the Canberra Port supporters functions.
I also helped hold up the banner at the Manuka game and my mother was stopped by security when she jumped the fence to join me in holding it up. Good times.

I will be living in Ballarat in 2025, will not see a single (edit: Port) FTA game on 7 plus (I assume), but will be at the May 3rd game.
By then I'll know what pub to recommend for after the game. :)

For G Cornes and Caroline Wilson to say we have been screwed you know we have well and truly been screwed.
MEH. Gra Gra always comes out once a year to defend us - so he can say "Well look here, folks. Yet again, I've come to the defence of Port. I'm so fair minded and impartial".

Slimeball!

I disagree.

This is setting up the "Ken had it tough" narrative when Port are 7 and 7 midseason and his 3 year extension is announced.
Which locks in Chad's job.
And Kane and Caro both went to 9.

I am kinda curious what one of Port's board members thinks of the Cornes defection from his bosses TV programs.

Watching that conflict play out will be fun.

On one side:
Caro, Kane, Ken, Chad

On the other side:
Cos

Somewhere in limbo land under the employ of the AFL ... Koch, Davies, Ritcho.
Marketing wise it’s a horrific fixture.
As far as Hinkley there is no way he is getting an extension, trading out Houston and bringing in unproven AFL players there is only one way we are heading.

The sun is definitely an issue. Why do you think it's difficult however to do something in the arvo before the footy or a night thing after the footy for a twilight game?

Can easily have lunch somewhere before the game, and the game is over by 615 so the night is still young, can go out for dinner in the city or North Adelaide after the match etc.

Sure, you can go out for lunch. But any sort of afternoon event or sport makes the game basically impossible to get to.

After the game, if I don't have the kids and want to go out in the city specifically i'm in a great spot, but if i'm going anywhere else or I have the kids with me then i'm driving home and i'm not home until 7:30

I just feel like it impacts on both my day and my evening when i'd rather have one dedicated to the game and the other one free.

We're a soft touch as a club. The suspensions are so the AVFL can show 'tough on offenders', without touching their favoured clubs or players. As we never call them out loudly / repeatedly as clear bias, they keep happening.

We get the dregs of the draw because again we're not a favoured club and no one calls it out. When that draw was released, if it was a big Vic club getting our draw, after finishing fourth, they'd be out hitting every media decrying it's shit.

Our club is spineless from top to bottom. The refusal to stand up on or off-field ensures we'll keep getting (overly) long suspensions, poor trade outcomes, shitty draws and ridiculously one-sided umpiring.

I don't know if it's worse, if anyone at the club believes the shit, that 'play nice and you'll get nice things back later', despite years of evidence it doesn't work or they don't believe it and are too afraid to stand up to AVFL house.
Our coach excels in this area. Bloody fraud. Too many gutless pr*cks who put their own needs ahead of the clubs.

The fixture fixer speaks...

I read that yesterday and again today and all I read was excuses. Oh its so tough, so many restrictions, we try and get a fair balance by weighting teams, yada yada, and no mention of fairness of timeslots and commercial opportunities for clubs.

It made me think of one of ESPN's 30 for 30 Shorts I saw in 2012, after their first series ie Volume I of shows and their second which instead of Volume II, they called ESPN Films Presents, about a couple who were the schedule makers for MLB for over 20 years.

These Shorts were only between about 8 and 12 minutes unlike the 90+ minute 30 for 30 films.

The Schedule Makers - Using only a computer, a pencil and paper, and cooperation, the husband-and-wife duo of Henry and Holly Stephenson spent almost a quarter-century creating Major League Baseball's season schedule.

They followed the rules MLB set, eg around travel, but they had the human element and built in rivalries, anniversaries, calculated when players might achieve major milestones and programed for them to play at home etc. Can't find the full 12 minute video but this 1 minute one sums up what they were able to achieve.

So SANFL has 3 bye weeks in the first 10 weeks (Gather Rnd, May 17 and R8). Geez....

Not a good draw to be the 23-24th player on our list either.
