Was concerned we might win for a moment there and not get the opportunity for some reflection.
Thankfully Sydney back in control.
The players and coaches can now get their heads right for the real deal.

The 5 will all be ok Mac, Weller, Ballard, Witts, maybe Swallow might miss time but I still think it’s bruising.

Great trial.

Overall feel is still very sunsey… everything from the injuries to the missed kicks inside 50 to the dropped marks inside 50 to the umps.

Rowell been great but been torched by umps both ways

Clohesy been good

Graham good

Jeffrey 2nd half decent.

Weller decent before going off.

Flanders is so important to us.

Bog is Healy for being a massive flog.

There is no loss that is as enjoyable as a trial loss with no major injuries.
Perfect really.
They know they need to start switched on. Great reminder.
They have been reminded how hard it is to get the lead late in the game.

No injuries of concern. Swallow some time with a PCL 2-4 weeks. We can deal with losing Swallow/Lombard/Walter.

Also a good reminder that in some games we can be frustrated out of it by effort. Some discussion can take place there.

Good stuff. Now some serious learning and reflection and let’s be really intense for The Big Precious Needles VFL Big Club next week.

I’ll sleep well tonight knowing the GC lads will be ready to rumble.

Go the beautiful GC.

Easy to forgive the basic skill errors and defensive efforts etc. being pre-season, but we look like we have gone alarmingly backwards on our biggest issue from last year. That’s not a skill error fix, that was a team still having no idea where to kick the ball mixed with a forward line that still does not even attempt to move, make a lead or block. This is the one time of year your ball movement should look elite given the lack of real game pressure.

Hopefully just a classic ‘we don’t need to care so why should we’ performance we are known for?

Gerard should be banned from commenting Swans games. The continual references to the ‘depleted Swans’. Flanders is a top 10 mid/fwd according to Champion Data, Big Mac gone in first 10 seconds (star), Ballard obscenely underrated by everyone outside of Queensland, and Touk a top 10 mid only a year ago. Yeah sure Swans missing a few also, but wowee! Suns will always be seen as a talent pool to be ransacked by interstate clubs. Winning solves everything! Would have loved to see the free kick count difference, almost comical. unbelievable, Rant over!

Maybe I’m delusional, but I thought we were trying to kick the ball inside 50 better. Seems more lower/shorter kicks, rather than bombs to the goal square. Just didn’t connect with the forwards at all though, with some “right idea, bad execution” type kicks.

We definitely need someone to help King. And we need some dangerous smalls who can contribute to our scores. I was worried about our forwards, and that hasn’t changed.

Some other thoughts on the match:

— losing Mac and Ballard so early is a worry, and we need both for next week so fingers crossed. But choosing to play Collins alone must have been to make him practice against multiple attackers and let small defenders get different experiences. Poor bloke was all alone.

— It’s good to have Powell and Rioli in the same team. Both can take some risky kicks, but you know they want to make stuff happen. Powell dropped a few easy marks, but he looks ready to be a good intercepting and rebound. And you can see Rioli wants to run. Once we learn how to use him it’ll be so good.

— Rowell looks good. Looks a lot faster. Anderson solid without being exceptional, but a typical game from him now. Graham fits right in and has a nice step on him.

— I feel Humphrey doesn’t have the tank, still. Definitely looks fitter, but I think he is only suited to bursts there in the centre.

— our small forwards are not great, but good to see Ainsworth bob up for some goals. Long solid as always. Berry isn’t anywhere near it. Rogers is in the right place, but needs to work on his finishing.

— I hope Weller is very precautionary, because geez he looked nice. Can kick goals and has some pace and had quite a few nice kicks.

— Jeffrey did some nice things off halfback and could be a third “tall” if we wanna move Mac forward. Clohsey is a good player, but his eyes light up for goal haha.

Overall was a pretty average game with too many injury scares for my liking, and a lot more fights than I would have thought for a pre-season game.

Did anyone pick up on the players songs after they kicked a goal?
Ben Ainsworth - Angels by Robbie Williams
Ben King had a good song but i don't know the name of it
