Interesting that in ROBs FA year we have made a 2 year offer.
It sounds like a FO we dont rate you

I mean its hard to assess but any FA would get more than 2 I would think - which keeps Draper still in the mix

I don't think so. ROB has showed signs of slowing down last 12 months, no guarantee he's AFL standard fitness wise in 2 years time.

Its still a 3 year extension for a FA usually - doesnt matter what age. Managers will squeeze an extra year for anyone

You do realise that a player is a FA every time they come out of contract, after they initially qualify for free agency?

Players qualify for FA the first time they come out of contract after spending 8 or more consecutive seasons on an AFL list. Given that most players are drafted as 18yo, they become FA for the first time around the time they turn 26 - when they are entering their prime. This is why they are usually given longer contracts at this point in their career.

ROB is well past that point though, which is why he's only been offered 2 years. Given where he's at in his career, 2 years is very reasonable, and certainly not a "FO offer".

More concerning we are offering the bloke 2 years before a games been played. This bloke we dropped last year and hasn’t finished top 10 in our B&F for last 3 years.
Cupboard is bare and we've apparently missed another target (Draper) we were angling for.

So we'll go back to ROB because while he's not great, he's not a league worse ruckman. It should be priority A, B, C and all the way to Z that we recruit a young ruck next off-season though. An absolute non-negotiable.

Still shocked we didn’t trade back into last years’ draft to get Dodson. Went at pick 53 in the end so wouldn’t have cost much. Yes we would have had to dump someone to do it (mainly due to our own poor list management) but was surely worth it given the positional need.

ADELAIDE has tabled a two-year contract extension to Reilly O'Brien on the eve of the 2025 season.

The Crows have been in the market for a long-term replacement for the Victorian in recent years, but are working to keep O'Brien at West Lakes beyond October.

O'Brien hasn't agreed to terms on a new deal just yet and the offer could be extended to three years for the ultra-professional ruckman, who has attracted interest from Geelong in the past and proven to be an important player during Matthew Nicks' time in charge. – Josh Gabelich

Looks as though there is very well a chance it could end up being 3 years depening on the negotiations, with the initial offer at 2.

I've been all for that for the last 4 years re drafting/recruiting a young development ruck and I'll be watching McAndrew really closely to see if he actually has AFL lead ruck attributes. I just hope we have signed him up for 2 years in preference to keeping Strachan as our back up. My non negotiable is Strachan getting any extension....surely not?

I think we missed the boat with Max Knobel rather more than not drafting Dodson who obviously had recruiters worried about his long term commitment to AFL, hence why he slipped so far.

Yea, Strachan has to be done at this point. I don't have an opinion on McAndrew one way or the other cause I haven't seen him, so completely open to him being the transition if he shows it, but even then I'd still be drafting another ruck for depths sake.

Roosters/NT athletic 199cm Ruck/KPP draft prospect Taj Murray a big watch for us I'm hoping.

SANFL U18's kick off Saturday morning.

I don't know how I feel about re-signing ROB.

Probably it's okay - but we need a Goad or similar pushing through to replace him, and we need them signed this offseason.
