Like a few of us said after last weeks win, it was paper over cracks.
Reality is we probably should have lost to Fremantle, yesterday was a loss we gave up through poor goalkicking and lack of F50 pressure, the last five minutes was a comedy of errors.

Health of the list is the biggest concern, in a year when the top 6-8 keeping the list healthy will be the defining difference.

Clear gap there mate... saying that's inconclusive might as well not have a score review. It's very different compared to our call last week which was during play, had they "score reviewed" that, they would have said it was touched before Cottrell marked it.
It's not the reason we lost, but seemed fairly conclusive to me. That front on angle wasn't the best and left a little bit of doubt, but when they showed the multiple angles synched up during the review, the frame where it looked like a potential touch from front on, showed a clear gap from the angle above and behind.

Anyway, 14.14 allowed them to stay in the game and have that last ditch chance to win. If we convert and put the game beyond reach, then there's no review to worry about.

Losing one of our best mids pregame and replacing with a ruck, who only had one run in the VFL and could only play 50%ToG, then losing Saad early and using our sub, then losing Gov (two on bench missing and one playing limited minutes).

Just a perfect storm of shitness.
If you said we'd be 4-1 after 5 rounds, most would agree, but expected to lose the Lions and win the Crows games.

There was no reason why despite Kemp and William's brain fart - the team could have won the game - against Adelaide's best efforts -
Talking about defensive efforts we didn’t have any effective matchups for Tex or Rankine.

McGoverns centring pass was overly ambitious and risky, gifting them an easy goal.

Plenty of sub par efforts by our defenders - probably only Boyd played okay as reflected in the poll above.

All sides are now converse to Carlton's game plan.

No more surprises for teams that now know that carltons one wood ,once inside 50 will always be bomb it to Curnow and Mckay.

Never any easy goals to Charlie or Mckay when compared to Greene for GWS.. Voss needs to change things up by having at times Charlie playing a high half forward rotating with Mckay .

I still believe that Mcgovern, once fit again would be the ideal rotating full forward. this would ensure that opposition defensive teams are more accountable and the Blues become less predictable with their forward line structure.

Blues also need to slow things up a bit and lower their eyes when entering the forward line to allow the the 3 way leads that Curnow Mckay and the Gov would provide. this I believe would have more impact on the scoreboard and giving charlie some freedom to move one on one

PS Whos idea was it allow Caminiti to go to st kilda. Just the ideal 3rd tall the blues are craving for atm

Really miss JSOS in that regard

Bit flat still.

Two of the best big forwards of the last 10 years and the crows take twice as many inside 50 marks as us.

Getting carved up by a nearly retired Tex Walker also a bit s**t.
Difference is, and feels like its been a problem over many years, our forward line was mega crowded and theirs was full of space.

1. Good users forward of centre who were absent yesterday: Martin, Cuningham, Motlop, Cerra.
2. Durdin, Owies, Fantasia, don’t demand the ball. Cottrell is playing half forward defensive role.
3. TDK as the third tall forward option had one mark yesterday.

After the excitement/disappointment has worn off, tryi g some considered thoughts.

Cripps and Weiters played stinkers. Surely Weiters was instructed to play off Walker, I can't remember him ever being so out of position so often, it's just not his instinct. Cripps has down days, it's to be expected, he can't be a gun every game.

I dont understand how Voss has repeatedly shown no respect to Keays, three games in a row. I love Voss, don't want him fired or anything stupid but it is mind numbing.

Was good to see our clearance work improve from last week but was still a mile off from last year.

I honestly think it's mental with this group. 2nd half of last year we had nothing to lose every game as we were coming from so far back. It gave the players a mindset of "go for it". We cast aside this adding layers to our game and went about brutalising the opposition and hunting them then playing with freedom, changing angles when delivering into our forward line and running back hard to defend.

In short we need to get that mindset back. Play to our strengths, cast aside this layer bullshit and play instinctively.

We were poor yesterday and still if we kicked straight we would have won. Crows aren't a bottom 4 team, they're a mid table team with some talent.

It's not great but it's not doom and gloom either. Let's see how they respond against a very tough though very beatable GWS.

I was a little worried that we barely beat a Richmond team, that's currently losing to the Eagles.

I still hope that we'll be there or thereabouts come the business end of things, but a small part of me is wondering is this going to be one of those years where we have to backwards before moving forwards?

Hopefully this slight nagging fear at the back of my mind is unfounded. There's still plenty of footy to be played yet after all.

Anyone notice yesterday that a few times we tried quick handballing to get a running game going but often to players who were covered and under pressure, and ended up coughing up the ball.

Maybe some of it was the Crows pressure, but it also looked like poor judgement and footy IQ?

No composure all day.

We're neither a fast side (especially yesterday) nor an especially bright side (again especially eith the 23 that played yesterday) so some teams are going to make us look ugly.

Great teams can win ugly and we've been able to do it until yesterday.

It's why this club cannot afford to select a player who they only trust to get 50% time on ground and who only plays one position. It puts everybody else under the pump. Then we compounded that issue by playing 3 forwards that essentially duplicate too much of one another's skill set.

God we missed Fogarty yesterday.

TDK would be a handy 3rd defender….. totally made sure Harry & Charlie never got a mark when he was near them….

This should at least be something we experiment with.

We need a second tall defender. TDK has a brother the same height who is an excellent ket defender. He has struggled to make his own space as a forward, but the observation above (that he gets carried to the drop by others around him) is also true.

So many average or inconsistent forwards have transitioned to defence and been successful over the years. I would love to see us have a crack with TDK if it turns out Mcgovern is out for a month.

Then get Tim English as a free agent to ruck……

We are too Charlie and Harry conscious.

We lack that third tall that everyone talks about but our delivery inside 50 tonight was horrible.

Play McGovern in his natural 3rd tall forward role and that position is an issue no more. He complements curnow and mckay better than anyone on the list. However now that he is injured we'll have to wait a little while for this to even become a possibility. :(
