This weird narrative surrounding Essendon and how well they did in this game, is beyond me. Jonathan Brown On The Couch was more impressed by Essendon.

As a stats lover, I still subscribe to the mantra, there are lies, damn lies and statistics and this is one of those occasions.

We controlled that game, seldom slipping into top gear IMO, and now Essendon are the English Cricket team after another moral victory.

Long live the edge.
The media have been seemingly desperate to jump on the Essendon bandwagon all year, despite beating only 1 team in the 8 - who are 8th and on a downward slide since before that game.

Merrett is the best captain in the history of the world and is a top 5 player in the game, despite whinging to umpires every 15 seconds and actually not being even a top 20 mid (according to CD, so take that for whatever you give it).

We put the game into cruise control halfway through the 2nd qtr aside from a 10 min period in the 4th. Of course their stats will look better, we had set up behind the ball and were just absorbing their attacks, which really weren't that good. I don't think at any point they looked like seriously penetrating our defences consistently enough to threaten.

Just watched the replay, did Jonathan Brown really say he left the game thinking that Essendon were the better team?

I thought I may have missed something first time around but really, we controlled the game for three of four quarters, largely held up well when Essendon did take over in the third and then emphatically finished them in the last. Bizarre interpretation to say the least.
I was going to say he’s still hungover from his failed trip to see Mcgregor in Ireland, but that would be far too generous…#Agradebonehead

This constant redemption arc towards Essendon, has almost turned into a rite of passage, where they were victims of the doping saga and are now every scribes second team.

Watch Charlie's game. I had him in my votes. Did all the team things, goal assists, knock ons + 2 goals. I will watch the B & F votes for this game

I thought he was on. Moved really well and in particular his first half was bloody great….did very important things in the last quarter as well

Merrett's lack of merit, as a human, on exhibition for everyone's collective disdain, with his weak abuse of a prone player. One who also happens to be one of the fairest in the comp.

Embarrassing for him, and his club, and compelling evidence for him to never be selected as AA captain, no matter how hard his cheer squad spruiks.

Lucky for Saad he didn't have any hair to pull

He's been getting a big, big pump up this season, but I've always found him to be a bit of a serial whinger, and it seems he's added the faux tough guy string to his bow now.

I remember when Cripps kicked the goal in front of him running out of centre and Merrett had his arms out complaining about running too far after about 8 steps. Since then I've noticed he complains at every chance he gets. Then the faux tough guy act on Saad. He seems a fitting captain for a Brad Scott coached team.

The thought of him being put up as the best captain in the comp, as the media has been spruiking all season, makes me a bit sick.

Tony Greene was the media darling last year so not all that much of a surprise, unfortunately.

he's a numpty then.

I watched the replay too - first half was barely a contest....

Q3 was theirs, then we dropped a gear at the start of Q4 and it was dusted in 10 minutes....
If that's us dropping a gear at the start of the 4th, how scary will it be when we raise a gear?

I've been critical of Ollie this year, but I thought he was good Sunday night. Stats may not show it, but especially early ran hard to the right spots, put his head over the ball and gave us something. His kicking and decision making was far better too.
I'd agree with that, got caught with the ball in big situations 3-4 times this season but seems to have learned from it (or his team mates have and are giving him more support?). You love to see him becoming a better player in front of us.

In watching the replay some of the worst commentary was when Brayshaw was crapping on after Curnow's bullet to Owie, saying all the great forwards were great field kicks and mentioned Plugger and Dunstall. Those guys never went outside 50 and would very rarely give it off. Just complete drivel.
Yes - the only time they ever ventured outside 40mts of goal was playing for the Big V.
