The media have been seemingly desperate to jump on the Essendon bandwagon all year, despite beating only 1 team in the 8 - who are 8th and on a downward slide since before that game. This weird narrative surrounding Essendon and how well they did in this game, is beyond me. Jonathan Brown On The Couch was more impressed by Essendon.
As a stats lover, I still subscribe to the mantra, there are lies, damn lies and statistics and this is one of those occasions.
We controlled that game, seldom slipping into top gear IMO, and now Essendon are the English Cricket team after another moral victory.
Long live the edge.
Merrett is the best captain in the history of the world and is a top 5 player in the game, despite whinging to umpires every 15 seconds and actually not being even a top 20 mid (according to CD, so take that for whatever you give it).
We put the game into cruise control halfway through the 2nd qtr aside from a 10 min period in the 4th. Of course their stats will look better, we had set up behind the ball and were just absorbing their attacks, which really weren't that good. I don't think at any point they looked like seriously penetrating our defences consistently enough to threaten.
