I have no idea what to think with this game. Our record there sucks, beating Freo (in a game we arguably should've lost) still doesn't fill me with confidence.

I think the rain probably favours us a bit more.

Feels very 50/50. Would be huge for our season to get the win tonight.

Butters for mine has become an out & out gun. His last quarter against Hawthorn (yeah I know say whatever but it was still an AFL game of football) was as good as I've seen (or likely to see) all season. 17 touches 5 clearances 5 inside 50s etc. He dragged them back into it & then over the line. Hopefully we don't give him that kind of space tonight. JHF very dangerous & I reckon Ollie may have a decent one tonight too. Hope the boys are up for it - should be an absolute belter of a game.
Really looking forward to it.

Our record has sucked because we sucked generally.

How many other hoodoos have we knocked over in the past year?

We’re a great chance tonight.

This is a big test tonight. Will show us where we really are in the pecking order.

Form against (current) top 8 sides this year:
Giants ✅
Cats ❌
Collingwood ❌
Melbourne ✅
Sydney ❌❌
Port Adelaide ❔

If we go 2-4 against top 8 sides after tonight's match, it probably (unfortunately) tells us where we're at.
Yeah, it will. In fact, next three matches will give us a clear view of where we’re positioned compared to the other contenders. Will be a fascinating watch.

Ground hoodoo aside..

Whilst their midfield has a little more zip and polish, ours has the physicality and power advantage (no pun intended). Interested to see which midfield unit gets on top as we like the contested stuff and they like it on the outside and historically tend to wilt with extreme pressure. 4 quarters of tough, hard contested footy always tends to break the Power in big games. Let’s hope we can bring that heat this week.

We definitely have the advantage with our forward line. Zerk-Thatcher and Ratugolea with help from Aliir taking Harry and Charlie.. we should cash in there IF we lower the eyes with our entries, which as we all know isn’t a big strength of ours. We have patches where we do this well and then others where every entry is kick and hope even with time and space.

Their forward line can be potent on its day. Dixon is the pack marking presence but is past his prime. Marshall, Finlayson and Georgiades are more your lead up forward types than aerial threats. Rush their ball movement and force hack entries and we close them down. Allow their mids time to lower the eyes and we could be in strife.

On paper I give us the edge. But a game isn’t won on paper. Both teams have star players with quite a lot of filler. It very well may be a case of which team has its lower rung players stand up without having weaknesses exposed that wins this game. Doing a job on Butters and limiting the amount of ball that Houston and Farrell (both long, slicing kicks) get will go a long way to winning this game. Am a little concerned at our small and half forwards being able to stop these two.

Bounce the ball!
