Suns and Saints also after early pick

Gold Coast and St Kilda are among the clubs eager to acquire early selections on night two, with the second pick of the night – held by the Western Bulldogs – also in clubs’ sights.

Dandenong Stingrays key defender Noah Mraz has been a player of interest for Gold Coast and was a potential top-15 pick at the beginning of the season before being sidelined by a foot injury.

The Suns have three future first-round selections at their disposal.

Like Geelong, St Kilda is thought to be keen on ruckman Alex Dodson given Rowan Marshall and Max Heath are the only recognised rucks on their list.

Is Steven’s any good?

He is classy ball in hand, tough as nails and has genuine goal sense. Isn’t the most athletically gifted player out there though. I think he has some potential upside, but he is 10+kg away from being able to compete even at VFL level.

In my opinion, there are just far too many better options still available in this draft pool and we simply don’t have the list spots to take him.

Get him down as a train on player, over the pre season then send him back to the Geelong falcons

Dons coming hard for prized first pick

Rival clubs believe Essendon wants to trade for the first pick of the national draft’s second round to snare key forward Jobe Shanahan.

Richmond holds the opening selection on night two at No.28 and the Bombers are understood to be trying to package a future first-rounder to move up from 37.

ssendon holds two 2025 first-rounders – its own and Melbourne’s after trading pick 9 to the Demons last month.
Teams thought Shanahan, who was overlooked during the first round on Wednesday night, was the player the Bombers would target.

The 195cm Bendigo Pioneers forward played for Essendon’s VFL side this year, kicking 11.3 from three matches.

Touted as a potential top-15 prospect, Shanahan was one of the sliders on night one, along with Murray Bushrangers tall forward Jack Whitlock, Sturt ruckman Alex Dodson and Eastern Ranges midfielder Christian Moraes.

Richmond has already taken two tall forwards with its six selections – Jonty Faull and Harry Armstrong – so is considered unlikely to want Shanahan.

But if the Tigers trade, they will probably be passing up on Dodson, whom they have long been linked to.

The South Australian has been linked to St Kilda, which holds the fifth pick on Thursday night.

Geelong might try to swoop on an earlier pick to target Dodson.

This masthead revealed on Saturday that the Cats really liked the All-Australian big man, but they would need to trade up to get him because their first selection was not until 42
Only a complete flog uses the phrase "This masthead" unless you're releasing the Watergate story.

Sooking! Like so many. A predictable glass half full mob we are.

If other clubs thought we were a lock for bottom three again they would have bitten our hand off for our F1.

That every other club was very wary of that deal says a great deal about where the rest of the comp thinks we sit.

The Hawthorn bullshit being lifted off Clarkos shoulders an added bonus.

Yes, we are trying to get him.

Having listened to Clarko talk of the need for us to draft a elite KP and his belief in a spine and how important it is this year I am 100% sure we will be taking what the club regards as a elite KP in this draft.

Heard it multiple times.

Mark my words there is no way we don’t take a KP, I will delete my account if we walk away with FOS and 64 pick.

If they take FOS F1 deal is done already.
Told you so.

100%

Multiple clubs offering F1 for 1 pick later shows the market we are working on too - good players left on the table late and you need to pay for them.

Watch a club trade a F1 for a pick tonight with nothing in return. Wonder if they'll cop the same outrage as us
No they won’t because one or two picks later won’t be regarded as a ‘kings ransom’ 🤣🤣🤣

Ahh the media, they're all confidence vampires..
