Pretty frustrating that Richmond won 3 flags then cashed out in a deep draft to potentially rebuild both their midfield AND spine in one go.

Fair play to them very well executed while losing nobody who was really going to influence their future fortunes.

**** it.
Interesting how much it can change. They basically missed out on the previous 2 drafts before this getting in Taranto and Hopper.

Interesting offers that might have been.

Saints - F1 for Tauru pick
GWS - 16 for our F1 (if Hannaford or Oliver gone). Then 24 and GWS F1 for our F1.
Swans - Pick 26 and Swans F1 for North's F1. They wanted to pick Bowman and Dattoli.
Tigers - 2 F2's to get Jack Whitlock.

Lets see how it plays out but its been pretty widely publicised that there wasn't the top end talent in this draft.

without that, its very hard to judge how they went.

Long way to go my royal friend.
They won't all be jets... or maybe they will be?

It's a ballsy play imo (which I rate) but it could just as easily blow up in their faces if a few of these lads don't come on which can happen.

Sorry to intrude.
Yep, totally agree with you but as a tigers man, I’m happy with the strategy they went with. Risk was worth it.

oh me too, I love it. 3 recent flags really does help in taking a risk like this though which is probably KC's point..

We could never pull off such a thing.

Key thing was they were able to shop their contracted players at a good age (24-26 yr olds) for way overs.
In hindsight Goldy might have been the one for us to move on when Cats came calling many years ago.
But we would've likely butchered the late 1st(s) on offer with the recruiters back then.

Tigers got a good balance of types out of this draft, but could use a bit of speed and run in their next crop.
There is an element of risk with mostly high upside types, which could backfire, but could also have high reward.
I still think they're in for some pain though like we've been through. The league is unforgiving.

Just my taste, I prefer the structural potential of Whitlock over Tauru.

My prefs in descending order.
  1. GWS 24 + F1
  2. SYD 26 + F1
  3. Rich 27 + F2 (DEAL)
  4. StK ~8
  5. Do nothing
  6. GWS 16
Maybe it's this heat but splitting F1 for a specific targeted player + F2 is still feeling ok. Weird.

Got really lucky with the clubs the players wanted to go to as well. Freo, GCS and WCE all had decent draft capital to trade with. But, still have to have picked the right players and develop them. Only time will tell if it was a great off season for RFC, but there’ll be a bit of hurt the next few years for sure.

Yep. I love everything about Tauru, but it's mostly aerial dominance. Matt's got an extra 4-5cm on him plus the reach (even though Tauru has a big wingspan and vertical himself) and his ball use better.
In reality there's not much between the late 1sts and Tigers F2.

Would’ve been furious if we offered our f1 for 16 and getting nothing back

Saved from ourselves there

Sure but sometimes you have to pay overs to get into the 1st round (Dees pick 9, Blues pick 3) and tempt that other team to trade out of it. There may have been later swaps involved, but usually they don't bother reporting it.

The only one I'm not sure about is Jonty Faull. He's a great competitor but I rate players higher who make good decisions with ball in hand. He'll make some Joe Daniher level head scratchers, but maybe he'll win you some games too lol.
I guess most of them all have things to work on, so maybe he can learn to compose himself and not rush.

If it works mate. Plenty of super drafts have come and gone and left teams with nothing of value at the end of it. They've gambled a hell of a lot on this one draft, it doesn't take too many misses to end up wallowing for years. They were shit this year and have traded just about every competent player on the list. Could end up in a big, big hole like we did.

That’s why it’s crazy that teams were knocking back our potential top 5 pick for a pick between 8-26.
That’s mind boggling- if it was my club I’d be pissed

Heat of the moment. Reckon there'll be a fair bit of salt dealt out in hindsight once we see who exactly the Tigers net with our pick next year.

Same. I can see how it makes sense for us, we have already gone very hard on youth, we will be a young team with 3+ years into key members now. We've stiffened with 3 mature, capable recruits. I can see the argument to set the backbone of the team and then decide on the gaps from 2026 onwards as we improve.

I reckon a few teams that think they're about to keep pushing to the pointy end will look back as they tumble and rue our pick, even though I'm hopeful it won't be bottom 6 next year.

Few drafts have seen Clubs get multiple guns in the one go.

Geelong and Hawthorn pulled it off but it's far and few between. Time will tell.

Getting our F1 definitely helps them though.

I do disagree that they lost nobody who was going to influence their future. Losing Baker, Rioli and Bolton in one hit is a huge talent and experience drain and could set them back years.

I think the recruiters just really loved this draft and wanted to lock in the players they wanted.
Swans should've taken it, giving up their F1 and one of Bowman or Dattoli seems a no-brainer, unless they think it might have gotten chewed up by their academy players next year.

Also the games experience of Martin/Grimes/Pickett/Graham are a big loss.

Next year is crucial for them. They desperately need us to be shit to get 2 picks at the pointy end like we did with Sheezel/Wardlaw & McKercher/Duursma.

End of the day, attempting to top up with Taranto and Hopper failed spectacularly so they were left with no choice but to cash in on anything with a pulse.
