Jack Hayes was overlooked in multiple drafts after killing it in the SANFL for years and looked very impressive at AFL level before he got injured. Talent is out there if clubs are willing to take a chance on it.

C'mon 1 example based on a small sample? A 26 year old C grade key forward isn't anything special

Wasn't he dropped for a game?

Skinner looked like a safe bet but then got a couple of games at Port and was clearly out of his depth

I only need one example to prove the point. If you want more, James Podsiadly and Tim Kelly were overlooked in multiple drafts.

That has nothing to do with whether he belongs on an AFL list, which is greater than 22 players.

Skinner already had one go in the AFL and wasn't deemed good enough. Voss is untried.

So if I list off all the state league players that were mature age draftees and didnt last would that prove a point?

More than likely if the recruiters from 18 different clubs deem you not worthy of making it on an AFL list then you are not worthy

There seemed to be quite a few taller mature age guys taken in the mid season draft this year. I wonder if the Jack Hayes recruitment might have influenced that a bit. I am sure there are a handful of mature talls still out there that are capable at AFL level. Especially when the theory has always been that these types don't reach their prime until they get into their mid 20's. Accepting that it seems a bit odd the current model of drafting them at 18 and delisting them at 21 is a bit off.

Do we need any more depth off half back? Casey Voss has had a great season in the SANFL so far and didn't get picked up in the MSD.
Personally I think we could have more options for a HBF. The coaching staff has had a great look at him though and have decided that he isn't an option currently. But I am confident there are players on our list that he may be a better option than. There almost always is someone on an AFL list for all teams whos not as good of a player or doesn't have the upside as someone killing it in the state leagues.

Matt Pridis, James Podsiadly, Tim Kelly, Marlion Pickett, Dayne Zorko, Harry Taylor, Tom Stewart, Tippa, Isaac Smith, Ballentyne, Brown, Fritsch, Liam Ryan, Barlow, Sandilands and I'm probably missing a heap as well.
The AFL draft system for 18 year olds is somewhat flawed. Players mature differently etc. I'm not saying Voss is something special or could be, but I am saying there is no reason to say just because he has been overlooked a few times doesn't mean he couldn't be valuable.

So yeah. Maybe 1 or 2 a year with probably 10 drafted

Yeah, it would prove your inability to offer a cogent argument except that if something hasn't happened yet it never will. Because the future is exactly the same as the past, yeah?

Great. Now back to my original question. Do we need any more depth off half back?

Can we still pick him up as a father/son if he nominates for this year's draft? lol.

He might be too slow to play as a hbf in the afl.

Great. Now back to my original question. Do we need any more depth off half back?

Wilmot a first round pick, have Ah Chee or prior who we can throw down there as well, carter michael too as well I guess. Not my biggest position of need with how well Kiddy is playing.

Genuine mids and developmental kpps probably more important for us to consider.

Developmental KPPs, sure, it's a need. I think we have more than enough mids though, with Ashcroft coming in.

If Ashcroft and Fletcher nominate us, I don’t see mids as a priority. Especially if Levi Ashcroft continues to develop, as a potential 2024 draftee.

Certainly a KPP if there are any left at the end of the draft.

2023 we might only look at two national draft picks.

If Fletcher was not a F/S would we be still keen to draft him?
Well he'd still be an academy kid so we'd still be getting him cheap.

Outside run - tick
Good kick/disposal - tick
Good tank - tick
Is there a vacancy for true wingman in our side - tick
Academy player so do we know too much about him already - tick

Yep, we'll take him thanks

Geez I wish I was confident like you Nunez

Tbh if he doesn't nominate us I might join BRAB and start supporting Flagmantle.

As others have said a KPP although we have 3 ruck/forwards now not sure how many young talls you can have.
The club might see Henry Smith more a forward/ruck and a KPP type as well.
Ruck wise Lane been moving up nicely if we drop Fort back we have depth.
