Thoughts on Connor Macdonald. Hasn't moved from my first side picked but is a risky pick no doubt.
Same deal as Ward, love both of them and expect they'll take another step up this year, but again, may not be fantasy relevant.

Definitely wondering if Newc can go up another notch this season. Has shown a ceiling

I Think he’s ready. 17/24 games last season above 80 and 14/24 about 90. Has the consistency but if he can just increase that by 10-15 pts a game then he’s becomes a real top line player. Tackles, marks and can find the pill. Everything you want from a midfielder.

The problem with Hawthorn players is what does 'take another step' mean? Hawthorn ran a consistent midfield group last year with excellent scoring from Sicily, Moore and MacDonald in non-midfield roles. Let's say Hawthorn finds another 100 fantasy points, that's spread across many players.

I don't really see the opportunity for growth in any Hawthorn player this year outside of role changes (Amon) or injury.

Love him as a player but my issue with him is that he doesn’t really have a midfield role at the hawks. Newc, Day, Worp, Nash, Ward, Mackenzie I think are all ahead of him in the pecking order. Scores well when he gets bursts in there but there’s gonna be games where he just spends too much time forward. Definitely some value in him due to his sub games last year though
Think he is the classiest of the lot of them, McDonald, and is working at getting more Midfield time is what I've been told. A definite watch.

Can anyone shed light on the Freo midfield?

Obviously rate Serong highly and he's durable as **** so big tick there. But I had this memory that his scoring dipped when Young moved into the midfield late last season. Looked into it and this is what I found:

Young moves in at R21 - can any Freo fans confirm this?

Serong's scoring from R21 averages about 100

Is this when the move happened? Obviously small sample size but something to keep an eye on if it continues. Brayshaw seeimingly unaffacted

You think Young to midfield isn't the lock we all think it is? They're not moving Serong out.

Nah I think Young to midfield is a lock for sure. But it looks as though it affects Serong's scoring. So I wonder if fading Serong to start the year which is a very unpopular move might be the go

What are everybodys thoughts on Paddy Dow slotting into the Saints midfield group? Crouch and Steele are locked into strong CBA %s. After that Seb Ross started to lose opportunities towards end of last season, Sinclair is injected sporadically and Windhager nly plays their with certain roles. Chance for Dow to be M3?

Priced at 57, if he gets the role surely theres alot of value there.

Dow's the very definition of "risk" ....being priced at 57, you can afford to look at him for a couple of games, then bring him in .....he'll still be great value

Bringing him in for R1, is highly speculative ....and could end badly

Cliffs? Lol
  • good value
  • an experienced head in an extremely young midfield
  • good history of scoring and peak games which is good for price rises
  • last year shocker / unlucky with 2 concussion games and a finger injury early in a game where he was on 47 at quarter time
  • mild concern on how all the Roos mids fit in

Yeah last one is my concern. Especially if Sheez moves more into the middle.

Wasn't there some chatter about ...that Simpkin may play a bit of WING ?

I'm not aware of any wing chatter but yeah this is probably the biggest issue. Personally I don't think North can afford to not have him in the middle with LDU. They need some older heads there to protect the kids and let's face it, Phillips is average and still very young, Wardlaw is a second year player who's never completed a preseason, Mckercher apparently playing off half back, Sheezel reportedly playing more wing time too. Big watch I guess. The fact he's a shit kick doesn't play in his favour either

They must have been listening to you then......:tearsofjoy:

A bit like our midfield problem - lots of young talent that fans want to see through there but it'll take 2-3 years to build AFL bodies for them to play there full time. I would expect to see Simpkin in the middle. Sheezel on a wing makes more sense to me than Simpkin does.

Simpkin had a lot of CBA’s until last 3 games. Assume they were experimenting at that point.

Yeah, I'm not reading too much into that. North seemed to have four main midfielders last year - LDU, Simpkin, Phillips and Thomas - and will want to give time to Wardlaw this year. There was some suggestion of Simpkin off a HFF on the North board but surEly it makes more sense to try Thomas there?

More collision related probably - a bit of risk minimisation:

I'm a fan of the potential value in Simpkin but god that early fixture when you need him performing looks rough.

GWS away - Looks Hard
Freo Marvel - Okay
Carlton Marvel - Hard
Lions Neutral - Looks Hard
Geelong Away - Looks Hard
