AFLW 2024 - Round 10 - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
Honestly, a good chance we get none of them as well. Feels like pick 17 is in a slightly awkward spot. We could just miss out on Berry, Reid, Hotton. Whilst it is a slight reach for say, Hannaford. The other players we have been linked to at 17 don't seem to be quite popular on here.
From the limited footage I've seen I really like him. I think his lack of speed is overblown, and he's clearly got a great footy brain and moves really well. He'd be an absolute steal at our first pick. I suspect another team trades up just before us and takes him though.Apparently Murphy Reid will fall to our pick. Sydney teams think he will be a flight risk if taken out of vic.
Other clubs not sure if he is more of a James Aish/Lewis Taylor type or whether he has the ability to develop an inside game and play midfield.
What do the draft watchers here think of him?
they are saying elite kick for oliver which is what I like. that doesnt often come with grunt and intercepting ability.
If you could draft Ed richards again with a 2nd round pick, on the proviso that he only ever played in defence, would you?

I think Macrae and Daniel were moved on because they couldn't play the forward role the way we wanted, because they didn't like being 'fringe' selections, and mostly because of their large contracts. My concern with Reid is that we just moved on MacRae and Daniel because they didn't have the transition speed to play outside roles and could be liabilities defensively.
I wouldn't want to replace them with someone who has similar deficiencies, especially when our team can struggle with the defensive side of the game
He is also a kid who has been fed the ball his whole junior career. I think we can be hopeful that he will develop a defensive aspect in an AFL environment in the same way that you might hope another prospect would improve his workrate or disposal. In fact it should be one of the easier things to work on as it is a game style adjustment rather than a physical one. As previously mentioned there should be no physical reason he can't add to his defensive game.

Reid is very different, he could play the forward creative role early or develop in the 2's until Treloar/Libba finish up.
He will possibly be part of a rejigged midfield that will include Sanders and Richards who will bring a defensive edge, and he may end up swapping with Bont in that creative, offensive role.

I like the look of Oliver but to call him the next Ed Richards is abit premature.they are saying elite kick for oliver which is what I like. that doesnt often come with grunt and intercepting ability.

Our best forward was drafted as a defender toosurely you just take each player on their merits? Richards came to us as a defender and even if he hadnt of been able to make the move to the midfield, hed be a damn good one.
Luke Urquhart tested well for pace and endurance and is a terrible kick, should be available late.Who’s the closest to Baz type player that could be around our pick? Hes the one we need to replace.
I'm not a watcher of Coates League so only going by short videos, but all of Ough's highlights are uncontested marks and kicks in the defensive 50. Seems very average.Had a feeling we would have been one of the clubs to rate Ough really highly.
I think trading up must be something we're at least considering. He nearly pipped 3 seconds in 20m sprint. That’s not slow.
I compared this to Caleb Serong a while back, he was taller, faster agility and 20m sprint. Have you ever watched him play and thought he was slow? I haven’t.
In today's game (and especially against us with our handball game) teams try and put extra numbers around the footy. You can combat that with power driving out the stoppage breaking tackles (which richards does) or elite handballing/vision/composure.
Can never have too many composed midfielders given pressure on ball has never been higher.
Reid would be a great get at 17 (prob 21 after bids).
Our second pick is going to have some heartbreak….most likely Harry Oliver, Ollie Hannaford, Cooper Hynes all gone by 25 (29).
I would like too see us slide up, To get one of tigers, gws or Sydney selections to get one of those 3.
Would cost perhaps 25 and future third? Future second is maybe too hefty a price? especially if we just decide to take Trainor who is probably still there.
Would be flat about Dattoli or Gross due to athletic profiles but would back the club in.
Herald Sun has linked us to Ivisic which is a new one, we seem to be targeting talented distributors as well as pacey ground ball types.
He is the Joel Freijah of this draft but more inside. He is a good user and is well composed, also very good defensively.I'm not a watcher of Coates League so only going by short videos, but all of Ough's highlights are uncontested marks and kicks in the defensive 50. Seems very average.
I think his lack of contested game is overstated. Nick Daicos has zero contested game and yet he’s one of the best in the competition because of what he offers offensively.Apparently Murphy Reid will fall to our pick. Sydney teams think he will be a flight risk if taken out of vic.

Not at all. Plays far more similar to Daicos (agile, fast thinking, creative ball use, smart running patterns, can’t tackle) but a step slower. Is Reid a Richards clone?

Thanks for sharing. I’ve only seen the various YouTube videos but I’m in what seems to be a minority that don’t think he’s the best fit for us. He’s a great user, creative with ball in hand and composed, but he’s small, one-paced in game, hasn’t really demonstrated an AFL level inside mid game and won’t be a pressure forward at AFL level. I’m not sure where he fits. Others think he’d be a good partner with Sanders, I don’t.
I am seat 1A on this kids bandwagon (I'll probably need seat 1B as well if they're like economy airline seats). In addition to his footy IQ is his ball handling, he's so clean. I don't know where this talk about him being slow comes from, sure he's no Usain Bolt but he's plenty quick enough. If anything he needs to develop physically but he's a deadset Pendles clone if ever there was one. Sadly I can not see him making it all the way down to our pickIn his most recent rankings, Cal Twomey rated him the #5 player in the draft. Rookie me (AFL draft central) rank him #3.
Twomey rates his football IQ (he sees things others don't), evasiveness and creative disposal.
Just now on Gettable, Twomey basically ran through the first round, reckons we take whoever slides of Reid, Berry, Hotton (in that order).
I haven't seen any vision, but with all the talk in here that's exactly who I had in mind whenever his alleged skillset comes up.I am seat 1A on this kids bandwagon (I'll probably need seat 1B as well if they're like economy airline seats).
