What I would do and what the club do is two different things in some cases. I’m just reporting what I’m hearing.

I know there’s a link between Blair and Smilie and that might be enough to sway the call, but I know how highly they rate Bo. Our WA recruiter is a highly valued voice in our group for good reason.

I’m trying not to be negative but I hate in between players. Is he a midfielder or is he a defender? Why did he only average 11 touches in the WAFL? What are his strengths? What are his weaknesses?

It is giving me flashbacks to when we reached for Conca.

He averaged 20 at champs and 6 tackles as a mid and 21 touches at colts.

Has a lot of development needed to be a mid.

But his pros

Very good over head
Left footer and penetrating kick
Leadership

Loves to tackle
probably the best athlete in the pool(maybe fos or tauru)
Big lad at 191cm
Versatile
Clean hands
Very good at contested stuff.

He needs to improve his decision making with ball in hand and find easier ball.

This is the worry with us, especially since recruiting has moved back into the hands of FJ and mostly Blair, given Toce sadly passed away. We like to reach and be obscure. And we often whiff as a result.

Outside Conca and D.Rioli who are the “obscure” players FJ reached for?

If Smillie is a decent chance of getting through to 10 and Allen is no chance (Dees love him), then Allen may be the smart choice.

Other thing is he is very quick, which can limit or affect his disposals. It's like he's going too quick and doesn't give himself time to settle and dispose the ball efficiently. It's a bit of a theme with those really speedy players, compared to someone like a Langford who's not blessed with pace but makes up for it by giving himself time and space to deliver the ball precisely.

I'm pretty sure that Allan played as a defensive mid in the WAFL finals, hence his low possession numbers, although when he did get the ball he took off like a hairy goat but did rush his disposals.
