Have we any rookie picks?
Certainly would have taken Dodson before Welsh which was how it ended ie one or the other
Obvs it shouldn’t have got to that as we should have had another list spot and taken both
Didn't you have him as pick 18 in late September? Thats an absolute slide to 53 - any reason why you think he went from a clear top 30 pick all the way down in less than 8 weeks?
Interesting to also see that only 3 pure ruckman were taken in this draft. Pick 52, 53 and 76. Its almost, almost, almost like ruckman are becoming less and less important every year.
I think too many people have jumped off Welsh without understanding his season in context. Most KPPs drafted early played against kids all season. Welsh played several Sanfl games this year and he dominated in some of the state games. He would have been tasked with working on areas of his game which would have affected his natural style. So some of his games probably didnt live up to expectation. He isnt just going to star at Sanfl level against fully developed men.
My above post was related to Dodson - not Welsh.
Welsh probably would've topped the goal kickers in the Coates League.i was more responding to those jumping off welsh not your post in particular.
They are less important for the actual art of rucking, which makes players like Dodson who gets midfielder possession numbers (albeit at junior level) all the more valuable.Didn't you have him as pick 18 in late September? Yeah clubs are off taking 18 yo rucks , Logan smith is great and he went last pick with no bidsDidn't you have him as pick 18 in late September? Thats an absolute slide to 53 - any reason why you think he went from a clear top 30 pick all the way down in less than 8 weeks?

Jacob Sheean any chance?11 I think, couple more rookie chances probably, Jacob Newton surely gets a rookie spot and possibly Phoenix Hargrave?
The context is that he clearly took the piss with his preparation/standards/attitude. His fitness went backwards in an elite environment. An indictment on him and the club.I think too many people have jumped off Welsh without understanding his season in context. Most KPPs drafted early played against kids all season. Why haven’t we over recent years then?I would not have been against using a middle pick on a ruck, but I prefer the strategy of trading in rucks after they've had a few years development and are stuck behind an established ruck.
Sounds like a lot of guess work to meThe context is that he clearly took the piss with his preparation/standards/attitude. His fitness went backwards in an elite environment. An indictment on him and the club.
Maybe clubs already have young developing rucks on their lists?Yeah clubs are off taking 18 yo rucks , Logan smith is great and he went last pick with no bids
But poster on here mentioned some off field incident re Dodson which I believe as it was a wild drift . Knew something was up when Geelong took his Sturt lesser teammate the pick before as a ruck
Did get a state combine invite but I personally doubt it.Jacob Sheean any chance?
But if you're the Crows. At the end of the season (a big one for a 17 y.o) are you telling him to get as fit as possible and smash the draft combine or are you telling him to have a bit of a break, bulk up and we will pick him regardless? The context is that he clearly took the piss with his preparation/standards/attitude. Thanks.Did get a state combine invite but I personally doubt it.
IMO the best prospect still available is Ruck/Forward Floyd Burmeister but he'd be a slow burn, unbelievable athletic profile with his speed and leap but very raw and needs some serious time to build his physique. KPF Gabriel Stumpf another with a really exciting athletic profile another you'd think would be a good rookie shot.
SA lad Jacob Newton looks to have all the tools to make it at AFL level to my eye so I hope he gets a rookie spot somewhere, really like the cut of his jib.
Maybe we just did an excellent job of keeping him out of the first couple of rounds of the draft. Certainly no one SA side was talking him up before the draft, probably not a coincidence. The context is that he clearly took the piss with his preparation/standards/attitude. Agree. He looks strong and well fed. He will look more "cut" after the preseason - and I'm sure he will have a good preseason. I don't understand the panic. "Indictment" this, "took the piss" that - give him 6-12 months he will be great. He's a nice mark, a beautiful kick and his 20m sprint looks great. Having him turn up emaciated and running middle distance would make no sense. But if you're the Crows. I know which I'd prefer.
Yep some for sure , I’m pretty sure others just wait until they need one then trade one inMaybe clubs already have young developing rucks on their lists?
