Massimo is a great acquisition. He has deficiencies to his game but as a running wingman he has two skills we really want - speed and skills. Only 20. Comes relatively cheap. Perfect type of pickup we should be looking at.

Now we need to be looking at key position players to fill the gaps.

Wasn’t he a mid season draft pick up

His Dad played for us didnt he not many games.
Yes Sean Ralphsmith was expendable in a way that Dunstall wasn’t.

On an end of season footy trip to the US one year in the 80s (Hawaii from memory), Ralphsmith and Dunstall got up to some hi jinks landing them in temporary custody.

Yabby Jeans, in negotiating their release, famously implores the local cops , ‘if they make a run for it, don’t shoot the fat one’.

Asked a few essendon friends re ambrosio

They where far from positive in their assessment so I wouldn’t be getting to excited about this acquisition
You’re asking the losing team about a departing player! It’s like asking a Hawk fan about McKays ability! Lol!

I think he has plenty of up side, an the coach likes him too! Plays wing and forward as well. Appears to have some pace and a very nice kick!

O that was Sean I’ve heard that story before .

The Club seem to be drafting trading for players that have barracked for Hawthorn, or had a relative that has played for the club.

I can't emphasise this enough. The answer is 1000% the latter. We need to find picks. We're desperate for them. That's why we're talking to them.
I actually don't understand the desperation.
Sure an earlier pick this year could help fast track our progress but if the club is desperate, they have next years first to use if needed.

We get 2 first-rounders this year with McCabe coming in so I don't feel our position is as bad as you suggest.

GWS would say that Pick 7 last year cost $1.6M with a player. So what does $1.2M get you? Pick 15 with something else?
nope.. that was 800k per yr..

This will be 1.2m per yr. Only North and hawks would have that space in salary cap.

We have to start with Pick 6 in any negotiations, I am fine if we end with Pick 15 + F2.

But if pick 6 is no on table, then it should be Pick 15+F1 with our F2 going back.
The price is meaningless, we're not spending anywhere near that with our cap, so the question is whether we're up for paying for pick 15 - which is probably about right.

GWS aren't bursting at the seems the same way GC were, they're able to manage it if they need to. They're not going to give away pick 6 as charity.

I would say GWS are over their salary cap, hence they have floated this balloon. Word was out long back but posters here didn't believe it.

Now we know.

God I'd love us to procure the 4th or 6th pick - just gives us access to the top level of the draft, and add more momentum to our rebuild.

Even if we missed out on a Watson, we could land a key option like Caddy.

Massimo in is good for us, just adds more competition to spots that are basically open season, being wing and half forward. I don't think anyone is underselling Morrison on the wing - but I think it's fair to say he didn't have the consistent season we were all hoping he would have, and he's not locked into a wing like say Amon is. Same goes for many of our small forward options.

That and Mass fills the exact profile Sammy is continually looking for - a mix of highly athletic/speed traits with good ball use. Sammy wants us to have a absolute explosive game from our halfback line, and clearly is building a tonne of foot speed through those lines.

So exciting, as during peak Hawthorn '13,'14,'15 - I remember one of our major knocks was a lack of speed through the middle, at times.

Did you ask them before he walked out on them?

By contrast my Essendon supporting mates told me he's a great kick and should've been getting games over Nick Hind this season. they're sad to be losing him but he's not really great at much other than kicking and running fast. which to be fair is two pretty ****ing good traits in the AFL, especially in a team that plays like us.

if we can turn him into a Bramble that hits targets he could be an excellent fit – but unlike Bramble, D'Ambrosio has struggled with accumulation. Will need to get 15-20 touches a game to make it in the AFL as he doesn't do enough defensively or off-ball to justify a lack of disposals

I'm just talking about the overall contract value. And it isn't 1.2m per year it's just 1.2m for one year.

But I do agree with you on the starting with Pick 6 and working from that point.

what if I told you that getting another pick in before McCabe means you potentially get 3 first rounders and if you did that without giving up next years first you essentially have 4 in two years?

Chris Scott is only a premiership coach because Geelong got Scarlett, Ablett and Hawkins under the old fs rules and didn’t have to match bids on them in the top
Richmond received the first pick in the national draft after finishing on the bottom of the ladder during the 2004 AFL season. Three teams were allocated priority draft picks for winning 5 or less games in the previous season, Richmond, Hawthorn and Western Bulldogs.

Certainly didn’t get 2 and 3

Morris, Jeka and O’Hara delisted

No surprises here.

Unfortunate for Morris as injuries at crucial times stopped him putting consistent footy together.

Jeka well documented issues with his game. Sounds like maybe Fionn is homesick
