3 key aspects I was thrilled with last night:

Pittonet is an AFL level ruck his tap work, body strength and general presence in the contest is far and away better than TDK - we should play him as the sole ruck instead of shoehorning TDK into the side. Young provides a good chop out too which relates to my next point.

Kemp looked a neat and tidy player - his kicking was adequate with room for improvement. Loved his intercept game and he is quick, having him down there frees up all of Weitering, McGovern and Young a little bit more (see my ruck comment above). Given a block of games will only increase his confidence and I believe he can be a best 22 player by years end.

Loving what I see from Cincotta. We’ve been crying out for this sort of speed. He creates overlap run and a couple of times was involved in 1-2 handball chains. He’s a good kick proficient on both sides of his body. Again, this frees up Saad and Docherty (particularly Doc who can play midfield minutes).

The beauty of it is the synergy they both provide. Kemp is tall, but is more agile and fast than everyone in the back half not named Saad or McGovern; Cincotta is a medium, but can compete with anyone not larger than 200cm. Young can play ruck without sacrificing structure in the short term, Saad and Doc can go for a run or play more aggressively without leaving their players undefended. Both Acres and Hollands drop back to provide cover and defend space.

It's genuinely uncanny how much faster we looked using Kemp and Cincotta yesterday.

That was just a great win, a four quarter performance, something we haven't seen n a long long time. Yes the opposition were decimated a little but sometimes you need that easy kill to retore confidence and belief and hopefully that's what happens. No better chance to back it up then against the Lions on Friday night.

Was great to see Charlie get rewarded for all his hard work this year has been giving his all.

Harry too has really lifted his game, just down on confidence. He should never be leading into that right hand pocket again he simply can't kick from that angle. It's a little disappointing I read he turned down Fev who approached him to offer some advice. Looks like he could really use it.

Acres is becoming very important for us both he and Hollands massive upgrades on LOB no offence to him.

Could not have asked for any more from Kemp what a start and then completes it with a goal. Must play from now on.

Glad they didn’t drop SOS like many here wanted. He is getting plenty of looks and finished well last night.

Youngy chopping out in the ruck is working for him and for the team. I am more comfortable doing this with both Kemp and McGovern in the side. Means we don’t get exposed for height down back when he is needed.

Adam Saad was AA last year and well deserved.

He’s better this year. The coaches have slightly tweaked his game and I’m not sure it’s been observed. He’s playing more aggressively.

Despite coming off early in two games and clearly playing within himself pace wise he is havign career highs:
  • possessions
  • defensive half pressure acts
  • kick effociency
  • disposal efficiency
  • intercept possesions

As the season goes on and his body stabilises I think they have him set for the role of “give him the ball at all costs.” He can’t be caught. Makes awesome decisions. Uses it brilliantly. His endurance isn’t quite there but he should be getting all the plaudits on the world for his form and ability.

Well done to the coaches for the tweak. Well done.

Good morning all ...

How are we all feeling this morning ...

Have said on here a few times I believe Saad is a top 5 player at Carlton. Well on his way to another All Australian. There is not a thing he does poorly.

He's a star. Shits me that he's still seen as a flashy downhill skier in some circles. Arguably the most well rounded player in the side. Does not have a weakness.

Massive rap for Cottrell and have been for some time. Clutch footballer, plays with mongrel, knows how to find space inside 50. Does not miss. High half forward is his for the taking.

Missed the game last night, didn't see any score and just finished the replay.

Wowee you beauty!

Kemp and Cincotta - best 22, need to be given 6 - 8 weeks at the level.

Loved Docherty's game. Tough, uncompromising and skillful.

Huge fan of Cerra - moving really well and building confidence.

Still think our weakness is small forwards. This has to be the main focus in the off season. We need an injection of class on the ground in our forward line - a game breaker who a tough edge.

Big game next week. We need a scalp

Just had the chance to watch the game, super impressive performance

+167 Disposals (452 - 285)
71% i50 efficiency
29 marks i50

  • Curnow, Silvagni and McKay owned their own space and screened for eachother rather than colliding with eachother
  • Blake Acres showing just how much of a high value pickup he is, 36 last week into 34 at 82%
  • Newman continues his sublime start to the season
  • Cripps, Walsh, Cerra and Hewett immense in the middle
  • Saad 25 from 3QTRs of game time and Docherty with 24 on return at 83% was huge
  • Kemp looks better at AFL level than VFL level. Slotted in seamlessly
  • Honey and Durdin played their role and played it well
  • Pitto great in the ruck with Young showing he’s a valid 2nd option if required
  • Finally, Curnow with his career best 9 goals was absolutely sensational. Played beautifully and selflessly (if that’s even possible for a 9 goal game from your gun FF!)
Anyone I’ve not mentioned above still played their role, that’s the best performance I’ve seen from us in a long, long time.

If we can continue to possess the footy using our dominant engine room like we did today and have the three talls play for eachother, as well as move to ball to 60 before going i50 (essentially, play a similar brand to what we did today) then we will be hard to beat. Opposition teams with better cattle will provide more pressure and better defensive systems will result in far less scores but as long as we adhere to the system we played today we should kick a winning score most weeks.

On top of the win, we have consistent performers in the VFL putting pressure on players 21 - 23, which is an enviable position.

Excited to test this brand against the Lions next week.

Cottrell. If you want to watch what you’ll get if he plays seniors then just go to the afl app. Watch the lead up to his goal in the final quarter.

Mind blowing stuff. Tracked back hard deep into D50. Smothered. Got on his bike. SPRINTED and somehow got ahead of a fast moving ball in transition. Got on the end of a pass then calmly slotted one from 50.

That single play showed me all I need to know. He’s def in same shape as he was last year and he played 18 games.

Straight in. No risks in my view. Hollands needs a break.

One thing that really stood out in this win is Pitto's form, he's playing a lot better now and was key to our midfield dominance. Who were the people who wanted to get rid of him, again? Imagine if we have Young, JSOS or TDK as lone ruck... sheesh.

I genuinely wonder what Hurn was trying to do in that bit where Charlie took a hanger on him. Looked like he was trying to... walk back into Charlie? I dunno but it was a serious mistake haha

Here's something that I don't think has been mentioned yet.

Charlie kicks his ninth goal. Still about 10 minutes on the clock.

Now, we could have easily, and justifiably, sat the ball on his head for every subsequent entry, trying to get him his tenth. It would have been expected, and easy to defend. Probably would have resulted in some turnovers that may or may not have let WC claw back a bit of the margin.

We did look for him a few times, when it was the right play. But we didn't get tunnel vision. We assessed the options and, in that last 10 minutes of play, found SIX other goal scorers.

That to me should be on the whiteboard in this week's team meetings. That is a professional team performance.
