We win this and well. ............
..........

We're gunna need a bigger lid
Need to protect our percentage…

Although I have us in the 8 by a game and a half, we are only one injury away from another wasted season…
This season isn’t wasted even if we just miss finals.

They transition in mindset and playing style is huge - a crack at the big game is closer, whether we play finals this year or not.
Watched the West Coast game again. Agree with Arrow. Kemp was a lot worse than people think.

Wouldnt shock me to see him dropped for Marchy.

Think TDk has to play forward else Pies double and triple team Charlie and run off.
Like TDK forward - has some confidence - just needs to what we all know - don’t go near Kings Way!

l don't see Kemp being dropped at all, he is only going to continue to improve with more games at this level.
Marchbank may be a replacement for Cowan but l would be investing in Kemp based on Marchbank's durability issues.

Looks like JSos will miss, so that would be our biggest structural issue to navigate.

Pies playing slightly taller, McStay, resting ruck and Mihocek who plays taller

Number of options, to try and combat it

Pitto - Young goes back for their resting ruckman, Kemp forward, or Gov. But Pitto still looked lame to me, not sure he comes

S. Durdin - With Young forward, changing with TDK. Gov can play on smaller agile types

I'd go option 2

JSOS is a big loss, not only has he elevated his game over the past number of weeks but his rucking relief has been very important, the Combo of TDK and JSOS has worked really well…

Young’s overall game is just really shaky, does some good things at times then some really dumb and poor things, if JSOS wasn’t missing I’d be inclined to drop Young then swap either Kemp or McGovern around up forward who can help take the pressure of Charlie for this week…

I wouldn’t be playing Pittonet either, but due to injuries if his deemed fit enough to play maybe go with rotating TDK & Kemp/McGovern if the game circumstances require a look at it…

Big Durds could be considered this week in defence…

Cuningham will need to step up and play the walsh role. Has match fitness now, so not a big ask.

Cottrell has all the attributes to play on N Daicos - speed, stamina, discipline, 2 way running. Come on Vossy, do it!

Cripps, Cerra (hopefully) and Martin make us stronger.

I think they’ll find a spot for Marchbank now he’s found form and fitness in the VFL. Probably for Cowan.

They will concentrate all their efforts on Charlie, so we need a plan. Hoping to see us lower our eyes and hit-up other targets.
Cunningham stepping up to Walsh role is a massive ask- love Cunners but he is no where near that.
Walsh is a freak, Cunners does some very classy things but is nowhere near that level he’s had 14,14,16,16 the last 4 weeks in massive wins.

Different players but if DC can ply his trade like his game vs * (‘21?), I would take that as a fair replacement.

Ahhh Harry. I was waiting for this.

Of course Cuningham (one n my friend) is not in the same class as Walsh. But we need someone who can play that role. I believe Cuningham is the best fit. He has similar attributes, apart from the ability to play the full 120 minutes, and uses the ball as well, if not better.

You have quoted Cuni's stats from his last 4 games. Let's put this in perspective.
  • He has just returned from two years out of football
  • He has been injured the entire time
  • He is working his way back into playing football at any level
  • He has played as a high half forward
  • Every time he touches the ball he brings a team-mate into play
So, he now has four games under his belt. He has built continuity, match fitness and touch.

If you noticed on Saturday, as I did, he was in the right position to receive handballs several times where he timed his run perfectly, had left his opponent behind and was running into goal. Both team-mates (Honey & Charlie) chose to ignore him and have a shot. He also gave off a couple of easy goals and allowed Charlie's first to dribble through as he was standing alone in the goal square. Any other day he would have had four goals. Was running on top of the ground and looked in great touch.

Then we go back to the couple of amazing games he played when played as a midfielder. BOG - 25+ disposals. Yes, I hear you saying this is a limited sample size, but the best of David Cuningham playing as a midfielder is very, very good.

So, when looking for someone to fill the massive hole that Sam leaves, I have no hesitation in praying that Vossy is brave enough to give the task to David Cuningham.

Adversity creates opportunity Harry. He could be the joker in the pack Collingwood aren't planning for.

Hope this explains my reasoning.

Was wondering who you are replacing Walsh with?

I can't see Cunners replacing Walsh for a whole game, he's more of an outside player with burst, but a small tank.
Plays high HF very well, just needs an opponent who drags him more into the game.(he goes missing still)

How about Cunners on Daicos?
I like your thinking, but I think we lose too much with this. We need the creative Cunners.

I said in our first game this year that Cottrell has all the attributes to do the job on Daicos.
  • Unbelievable runner
  • Will run hard both ways and make Daicos accountable (which he won't like)
  • Has good high-end speed
  • Is a good mark for his size
  • Is a great set shot kick for goal
  • Carlton players told to look for him whenever they can (if he scores an early goal or 2 Daicos is then under pressure)
  • Is a physical player
  • Good tackler
  • Disciplined
Regardless. The keys to Collingwood are N Daicos and Moore running free. We have to go in with a plan. I really want to see one.

There’s no possible way Kemp gets dropped.

Cuningham doesn't have a small tank. He has played full games in the midfield before.

Yes. He has needed to build it up due to being out of the game for 2 years, but he doesn't have a small tank.

If it's still not at capacity I would be more than happy with Cuningham sharing the role.

I'd be interested to see who you would have play the Walsh inside/outside role?

It should be one of either Cotts or Dave, the most important selection decisions to beating Collingwood will be picking fast ball deliverers and runners.
Don't want to see Ed or Honey line up this week.

I don't think you would.;)
It's too early in the week for this discussion.

Also think Dave is playing his HF role well at the moment, we need him there.

edit. I'm not confident that Martin will return this week, so that would mean no Mots, Cunners or Martin roaming around the F50.

You’re surprised at the response to suggestions that one of our most promising young players, one of our best players on the day, and one that has been playing brilliantly for over a month, is lucky not to be dropped?
He's not going that well. He's more than meeting expectations after being handed some big jobs. Brilliantly? No. Doing a good job of making his way. Yes.

Yes. The latest run of injuries is so frustrating as we have built some good momentum, form and confidence over the last month.

Harry providing that second target and chop out down the line.

Martin providing another marking option up forward, and that hardness he brings.

Mots playing the crumbing goal kicker perfectly over the last two weeks.

Honey and Fish are not the answer, but I have no solution.

Not debating any of that - just saying it’s a massive ask. Wasn’t potting him at all - just saying that his numbers aren’t huge (like stepping to Walsh role) & that’s against sides we smashed.
You don’t replace Walsh - you have to “moneyball” it (make up his aggregate output thru several players) eg Cunners into the mid more for 1st receive, Doc for defensive coverage, Dow for clearance.
Cunners just can’t “step up” to replace Walsh - he can sure as hell help thou.
