Reid speaks so well , very likable and has a great sense of humour. I'd love this kid in our team he's the full package.

He completely dodged the question about moving interstate just saying he's a big family man. I wonder how meetings with West Coast went/are going 🤔

Geez he sounds like he really doesn't want to join West Coast.
Assuming WCE come last, if we finish above Hawthorn we are better placed to trade than them, if we come second last to WCE then it will be interesting to see what we give up.
Before anyone shouts at me that we won’t have to give them anything, if WCE aren’t getting anything extra they will just take him. He’ll still be worth multiple firsts in a year or two.

If WCE come last, and Melbourne are willing to pay three first rounders for him, I think they'll get him.

If we finish third last as it stands now and get a priority pick say #19. Would we trade #3, #14 (Port) & #19 for Harley Reid? Interesting hypothetical as we probably need depth of talent. But if this kid is the best player in the league in 5-10 year I think it would be worth it.

Wouldn’t we have ours, ports and potentially 19 (PP)
I think we'd be crazy to trade out that many first round picks for a single player, even a possible generational talent, when we have list holes all over the place.

I also have doubts whether the AFL would let us trade a PP as part of a suite of picks for pick 1.

I’m not advocating for it, but it is a strong hand. If we have to trade 19 there won’t be many more restrictions on it. Didn’t brisbane trade theirs for a future pick?

I don't think we could trade a PP for pick 1, I reckon AFL House would say no. The prerequisite for last year's deal was that we got a player in return.

The problem with that is that every year or two there is a new potential best player in the league in 5-10 years. I think you can afford that kind of thing when you aren't looking to fill 10+ spots on the senior list, not sure you can afford it in the position we are in.

Fair enough. 2nd last is the sweet spot. God I hate myself

Also I think Melbourne are in the box seat to get Reid as long as WCE finish last. I can’t see the kangas giving up multiple picks for one player. It would hurt your future growth too much. For what it’s worth I think the kangas with a strong draft haul this year could win a flag in 5 years.
