If JDG says he wants to come to us, what would end up happening? Would Collingwood match our offer and force a trade? Would we then let him walk?

If he agreed to come, could we structure the offer so Collingwood couldn't match?
They have to match the offer as presented don’t they?

In which case, it isn’t money nor years that’s effectively the issue.

It’s the fact we aren’t offering a behavioural clause or one as strict as the pies?

My belief is that they are meant to match the contract I would have assumed that included any clauses contained.

If that's the case, De Goey could publicly nominate us so Collingwood match then take the matched contract he wants.
Which defeats the fact the age article says the pies have it in place to protect them (sponsorship)

So that can’t make sense that they can match an offer and then stick a behavioural clause in and tell a player bad luck?

Matching Offers

A contract offer is matched if the football payments and ASAs are equivalent under the offer and the contract proposed by the player’s current club. To qualify as a matching offer, the player’s current club must make an offer on the same terms as the new offer tabled by the player including:

• Contract length;
• Base payments;
• Total match payments;
• Total ASA payments;

Total performance incentives based on AFL awards or honours, club best and fairest finish or games played (not including finals). Any incentives for team performance do not have to be matched. A player cannot table an offer to be matched for less than a two-year contract length.

It puts them in a tough spot. Means they either match the contract with all clauses or they let him go.

But at the end of the day, it's dependent on whether DeGoey wants the behaviour clauses or not.

Surely they wont offer 5 years and no behaviour clause plus the same coin?
🤔🤔🤔

If Gold Coast weren't offering up Pick 7 in a package with Bowes, and it was just the player - are we still interested? Can't just bring in players for the sake of it, has to be someone we think can contribute for 4-5 years at that price. Has shown a bit but has never really kicked on, like a lot of our list. And we already have too many half backs.
Like a lot of teams players are brought into a squad and are not given a shot at there best position , Brodie is a fine example - unable to get a gave playing behind Fiorini who is lucky to get a game in the seniors and of course Touk Miller , Anderson and Rowland. Anyway Bowes is no spud - he has picked up over 30 touches a game before on a flank.
What he is worth is a guess but he was a pick 10 and a academy pick so most probably higher rated than our Hunter Clark.

So if we actually get him, what happens when he goes out on the P155 and touches up a nun?

Do we like... just do nothing and carry on?

IMO... I dont give a flying flower what he does if he gets us a flag. Within limits...

I just dont see it here to be honest. I dont think it will work.

They dropped him like a hot potato for having a good time in Bali , so I would be looking at something else.

Or how pissed he still is at the pies for the forced apology. Contract clauses would be a permanent reminder of that.
Cmon gents.

He wants to be at the pies. Not sure he is harbouring ill will against them otherwise he wouldn’t be negotiating this clause.

Which is the only thing stopping him from signing right now.

The longer he takes to sign the more likely he will be playing for us.
Gubby Allan has most probably got it all done.

There was an interesting titbit in one of those articles something like "he wants to take his career in a new direction whether at the Pies or elsewhere".

I think there's always been the assumption that he wants to stay at the Pies and I still think that's probably the case, but then again you just never know...

Surely people don't genuinely believe we can get pick 7 and keep 9 for taking on Bowes?

It's pie in the sky stuff
I dont get that whole thing about giving away pick 7 just to take Bowes.
Must be on some awful deal money wise to justify that otherwise you would just give away a late pick.
I know its back ended but must be about 800k or something crazy to justify giving away a top 10 pick.

Just looking at the rumours , there said to be a bit of tension between him and a few of the leadership group - Pendles etc so it will be good to see what happens , but the way our recruiters work I really believe the deal could already be done , just like Crouch a few years before.
Amazing having a coach that is not overbearing can do , it actually is very atractive to players wanting to play football without all the hype associated to teams like the Pies and Tigers.

Reported to be around that 800k for the last 2 years of his contract. GC severely underpaid him in the first half of his contract.
