How many were sold? Apparently there was a public allocation so it's likely some of that came from the Pies allocation.
Both teams 14k allocation sold out straight away.

Depends on how many actually turn up on the night! The weather is forecast to be crap for the Cats v Lions PF!The AFL Members has got about 5 bays left in the middle section of the top deck and then all of the back section of the top deck to sell. So about 75-80% sold.
Looks crap during the day, but okish from 7pm onwardsDepends on how many actually turn up on the night! The weather is forecast to be crap for the Cats v Lions PF!
56,347 is the official capacity for Marvel so not quite full!53,245 @ Marvel last night. Now that’s what a full house looks like albeit for a Rugby Union game.

Do they think the Swans outdrawing the NRL is a new thing?"The clash between the Swans and Collingwood is the hottest ticket in the Harbour City – leading us to wonder if Sydney is finally seeing the light on footy – with the prelim a 48,000-seat sellout while tickets were still available on Thursday afternoon for the Souths versus Sharks rugby league clash to be played right next door and at the same time"

Without looking at the stats, I'd imagine most Swans home games would draw a larger crowd than all NRL games in Sydney over that weekend.

There was the 2007 prelim between Geelong and Collingwood that drew 98,002 which was higher than the grand final. Were the MCC rules different back then that allowed the ground to be closer to it's capacity? As it is Preliminary final weekend here the top 5 Preliminary finals crowds of all time
1) St Kilda V Carlton 108,215 MCG 1970
2) Collingwood V Richmond 107,279 MCG 1969
3) Essendon V Geelong 103,649 MCG 1968
4) St Kilda V Richmond 102,494 MCG 1971
5) Geelong V Carlton 99,203 MCG 1962

It's not at the same time. AFL starts at 4.45pm, NRL is at 8.00pm.the prelim a 48,000-seat sellout while tickets were still available on Thursday afternoon for the Souths versus Sharks rugby league clash to be played right next door and at the same time"
Not saying the Swans aren't popular and it is impressive how quickly they sold out the SCG, but I think it's a bit much to imply the AFL has overtaken the NRL in popularity in Sydney.
The average Sydneysider wouldn't be able to name a current Swans player that's not Buddy.
For some reason I have in my mind a prelim between those two sides that drew over 100k. And I think I was there too, but it was a mediocre game with an easy Geelong win.
So?More reason for the RL to sellout! It's not at the same time. AFL starts at 4.45pm, NRL is at 8.00pm.

NRL support in Sydney and even Brisbane is so casual, they really dont care. The fact you can buy $60 tickets to the Grand Final months in advance says it all.My best mate runs a business up in Sydney and was telling me today that a couple of years ago he bought 8 NRL GF tickets a month or two out from the game. Anyway he was going to raffle them off, but that idea fell through, so he put them up online to sell at market rate. No bites at all, so he dropped it 20 percent under market price, still nothing, 30 percent another week later etc, etc ... nothing. Then finally a week before the game he got a couple of calls from people offering him $30 for the $100 tickets. In the end he just gave them to some customers for free. Literally felt like he couldn't beg anybody to buy them .
Funny that. I heard on a Sydney based radio show that the NRL had their GF ticket pricing just right and that the AFL overprice their GF ticketsNRL support in Sydney and even Brisbane is so casual, they really dont care. In business you generally get the price for your product that the public is willing to pay and the AFL as the premium football code with by far the most fans/supporters/members in the nation should always get better prices than the second placed NRL!Funny that.
