^^ 31,807 for day 2 just announced on the broadcast, sets an even bigger record for WA.

Edit: final day 2 attendance is 32,368

Looks like a decent crowd at the WACA crowd for the WBBL. Shame they don’t release the crowd figures for individual games.

It was free entry for anyone who had a ticket to the Australia vs India Test match that was over the river at Perth Stadium.

Need 13,604 to attend on Day 4 to have the highest total attendance over all days to a Test match in WA being 103,440.

Day 1 - 31,302
Day 2 - 32,368
Day 3 - 26,166
Day 4 - tba

It looks like the Unite Round, A-Leagues version of Magic (NRL), Gather (AFL) Super (Union) HoopsFest (NBL) Round, is not going great. I’m thinking they should not have included the Sydney derby in this round, to try and get a decent crowd on two separate days.

Someone posted pictures of the MVvWellington match, and there was no way there was 5k there. The stands were absolutely empty, like the Covid days.

Unfortunately only 6,627 on day 4 with there being no need for day 5. Totalling 96,463 for the series, falling 6,977 short of an attendance record in WA for an entire Test match. The Ashes next year will no doubt beat it.

The Matildas bandwagon is still going strong. another sell-out.

I had expected it to slow by now.

Now, if they can start winning matches again...

Not saying it wasn't a sell out but noting that that crowd was about 5000 under capacity: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-11...otional-clare-polkinghorne-farewell/104662142

"The official crowd number was 47,501 with a few empty pockets of seats in the lower levels. Those seats are for stadium members, which Football Australia don't get a say over selling."

Completely fair that FA couldn't sell any more tickets, but just observing that the gloss is every so slightly less shiny if stadium members don't want to attend. I am told that a lot of the Broncos sell outs were in the mid-40s this year, but don't quote me on that.

Imminent announcement of a PNG team in the NRL.

Supposed tax free income for players that sign on. Apparently alot of the existing clubs are taking issue with this, and rightly so. Seems an unfair advantage in a comp with a salary cap for each team.

Not sure how that is seen politically in PNG. I would imagine that an NRL player would be comparatively rich in that country, and when you have so many poor people there trying to make ends meet, to have wealthy sportsmen get offered tax free income must go down like a lead balloon amongst the PNG populace.

There will be very limited PNG players though (currently no PNG players in the NRL....the only player in PNG Kamus team in the NRL is......Jack de Belin)

Presumably, the

Ranked 133 in the world for corruption and 143 for per capita income. I doubt this will be the focus....a lot of them will no doubt be happy to have a team

Bigger problem will be its impact on the integrity and health of the competition

Another good move by Vlandy’s. It pretty much another ~$4mil PA handout from governments to his sport again.

they also played 4 meaningless friendlies in a short period of time for some reason. It dilutes the product

“The Matildas' match against Brazil at Lang Park was their 15th consecutive public sellout on home soil. Their Sunday match at Robina Stadium in the Gold Coast, which Football Australia revealed to be projected to be sold out, will be their 16th.”

I’m going to presume the game in Geelong did not sell out…
