I just get worried about taking kpf with first picks because look at the history of past players, if we did pull of getting Luko, would he have a slow development or would he be a regular quickly.

If we took Luko, my guess is we'd take that development as slow as possible.

Probably to the point we wouldn't be aiming for Luko to be a regular until season 3.

Lycett is a mediocre. Always has been, always will be, and Port have given him a massive contract.

Mayes is vanilla. Steak knives in a deal. Glad we didn't get him.

Burton I reckon has the tools to be very good, he's a good pickup for Port. Question marks over his body though.

Port have also traded out a lot of quality to get these guys. Polec is one of their best players, and Wingard has even more elite traits than Burton. They'd want to be bloody sure they're getting a dead set gun with pick 5.

I have big question marks on Burton seeing as how he completely shat the bed during the finals. He could not cope with the intensity of pressure and I think that is partly why Hawthorn are okay with letting him leave. You don't perform in finals, you don't play for Hawthorn.

they've gotten a lot for a guy who is *apparently* very lazy, not interested in training and prefers to play fortnite to footy. plus brisbane are paying a part of mayes' salary.

I'm surprised by how many people find this surprising. Footy is a job to a lot of players. They spend ridiculous amount of hours at the club, training, playing, PR etc. Gone are the days that people played footy for fun - today it is a business, and a full time job. And from that point of view I compare it to myself - do I prefer going to work five days a week or do I prefer playing Destiny 2 on the PS4? Easy choice there.

I think Port have done well.

I still think we should have moved on one of Sloane or Lynch for various reasons and probably still been in our premiership window and been able to move up the draft.

I think the club got caught up in retention given McGovern was going.
The club cares more about good news stories for its members than moving up the draft. This is mainly due to player retention issues caused by its own mismanagement. Said it numerous times but the club are not willing to fall out of the 6th to 12th zone and take a risk to win a flag as it may decrease membership.

I'll go out on a limb and say your not making 7 figures in your job.

Where’s GROTTO ?

The Port obsession on this board is crazy. If we are to ever win a flag there is 16 other teams we need to worry about other than Port.

Hawthorn being gifted players is more of a concern to us. Essendon recruiting another A grader is a worry. A team that has no pace and poor kicking skills trading 2 of their more skill full and top 6 players to bring in a kid is no concern to us at all.
Let’s not become obsessed with them as they aren’t worth the concern

While I think it's bad for Port I think they've done reasonably well with the hand they were dealt with Wingard and Polec wanting out.

I just think that they've become weakened as a football club as a result of it all.

That the above is worth getting upset over to some I find perplexing.

Have given us a masterclass in how to trade. Anyone who doesn't admit that is not viewing things honestly. ******* disappointing.
Great trading by them? Not so sure given what they had to give up. If we'd given up 2 of our best 6 players would you be happy that we had good draft picks, a Brisbane reject, a second ruck and a guy with potential that could be impacted by a failing body? It's a wait & see for me.
I am sure we have asked GC and Saints (and Brisbane) about trading for their picks, and so far, what they're asking we think is too high a price. I'm OK with that, we would know how good these SA kids are, and what having them is worth to us vs not getting them and having what will be available at our picks
What I AM disappointed about is that we're not trying to get another ruck. Unless Sauce winds the clock back (unlikely), we are exposed there.

Wingard is on the decline. I call that smart trading cashing in before the stock plummets. Polec is a loss but he is not a game breaker. Port have done very well especially if they get rozee as he is the pick of the draft imo.

Polec is their game winner from this year though. If you stopped Polec, Port really struggled to win games this year. It was very obvious in a couple of the games this season, notably the Eagles game in that last quarter.

So Port lost Wingard but picked up Burton, pick 15, a one pick upgrade and Mayes?

Hmm interesting deal.

I know a lot of people are looking at Ports deals and thinking they have done well, but don't forget to also look at what they are losing. Hombsch also likely to be gone.

If we have learnt anything it is that Ports apparent 'wins' in October don't translate to wins in August & September....

Pump the brakes people.

For the record our current trade equation is this:

Out: Lever, McGovern, Pick 16 (2017), Pick 27, Pick 35 (2017), Pick 46, Pick 73 (2017), 2019 3rd, 2019 4th
In: Gibbs, McAdam, Stengle, Pick 13, Pick 16, Pick 21, Pick 73, Pick 77 (2017), 2019 5th

Removing irrelevant 4th round picks

Out: Lever, McGovern, Pick 16 (2017), Pick 27, Pick 35 (2017), Pick 46
In: Gibbs, McAdam, Stengle, Pick 13, Pick 16, Pick 21

Lol amazing. Good thing I no longer care about footy, or else I'd be really upset by this.

Port have stolen the show.

Former norwood premiership captain KT a shrewd football man. They had a plan were prepared to give to get

Easier draw next year with a properly structures football side. Be interesting if westhoff of watts goes to defence?

With hartlett back and either rozee or luko on the half back flank it's not a bad side

Missing a gun mid though

sure, i get that. but by the sounds of things it was becoming detrimental to his position at the club.

dont worry, i still hope it all crashes and burns :moustache:

What happened to Port saying they weren't going to sell the farm to move up the draft order? Lying ****s.

I think our strategy has backfired however, partly due to the Melbourne pick being shitter than expected and partly due to the SA lads bolting up the order.

If we draft Vic Metro kids with 8, 13 and 16, I doubt any of them will play 100 games for the AFC. Hopefully we will get some of the SA lads we miss out on coming back the other way - we should be in the ear of Luko and Rankine from day dot.

The Wingard deal is terrible if it goes ahead as predicted

Wingard and Hombsch for Burton, Pick 15 and swap Pick 6 for Pick 5.

That's a horrible deal.
Agree, brisbane and especially hawthorn are clueless for doing this trade. Burton, one of their best youngsters and pick 15 for Wingard. Wingard i repeat. One of their worst trades for 10 years.
