Out: Gibbs, Armfield, Sumner, Jaksch, Gorringe, Galucci and Korcheck. (5 senior, 2 rookie).
In: Kennedy, Lang, Lobbe, 3, 10, 30 (6 senior, rookies unknown/TBA).

Who's the senior player next in line for delisting to fit in pick 30? Palmer gets his payout and heads back to the WAFL?

in order I reckon

Palmer
Buckley
Graham
Boekhurst
Smedts
White

Have we now run out of trading stock for next year? If not, who would SOS trade out for picks? I can't see anyone.

Not sure we need trade stock next year now.

Strong draft in 2018, hit up a first rounder, 2x second rounders plus a fourth rounder, grab a free agent if available.

The improvement now comes from development of existing players, and then sustained good practice in regards to recruitment and development.

We'll have more than enough talent on our list, so it's over to the coaching group more so than the recruiters, while SOS will be able to focus more on incremental improvement through the draft and trading picks for established players where appropriate.

No second rounder and next to no assets for sale and SOS pulls this off.
Makes us stronger for 2018 and positions us better for the 2018 draft. Simply, a fantastic job.

Some may say we'll be worse off without Gibbs, but we're fast-tracking the new leadership, along with giving others more opportunity.

I thought we did exceptionally well in 2015 & 16. Reckon we did even better here, given the circumstances.

Subject to salary cap, Smedts & Palmer are contracted for next year so they may stay.

Sheehan, Buckley, Graham, Boekhorst & White are the ones who supposedly don't have contracts right now, you'd have to assume that any axings will come from that lot.

I Expect Dylan Buckley, Rhys Palmer, Nick Graham and Ciaran Sheehan to be let go within the next couple of weeks.

Palmer could have his contract payed out and Graham will likely be rookie listed.

Boekhorst and White should be given one-year deals.

For Graham to be rookie listed, he would have to be delisted first and then redrafted in the Rookie Draft.

So excited to see the transformation of our midfield. SOS has largely taken care of our KPP stocks already.

Unfortunate to lose Gibbs but gaining Kennedy, Lang, Pick 3 & Pick 10 is exciting. You'd imagine we would draft 2 mids with those picks and there seem to be a lot of mids in the top 10 range. Add those 4 to Cripps, Cuningham, Fisher & SPS and we are on our way....that's 8 highly rated, high draft pick young players to form our midfield core for the next 10 years.

Although young we're going to bat far deeper talent wise next year.

I'm COMPLETELY on board with the moves but Gibbs is an enormous asset that we've sold

I noticed with the highlights package on Lang and Kennedy they both kicked goals on either foot. Good to see, I don't think it's an accident we targeted guys like that.

Such an underrated skill being able to kick on both feet, and both these guys (seemingly) can kick on both, just like SPS in the last off-season.

Gibbs is a significant loss.

The difference in 2018 though, is that instead of having 6-8 guys in the team with less than 2 years of experience and a handful of VFL-level players, we'll have 3-4 guys with less than 2 years of experience and literally no VFL-level players in the team.

Cripps, Docherty and Plowman are established stars.

Lang is a 5th year player yet to really establish himself, he'll have every opportunity here as a likely starter.

Marchbank and Pickett are 4th year players (given injury history, probably fairer to say 3rd year).

Weitering, Curnow, McKay, Kennedy (how nice is it to put his name here?!), Cuningham and Jack are 3rd year players.

SPS, Fisher, Williamson and Macreadie are 2nd year players.

Confident that the load will be spread.

Exactly. And with the acquisition of Bam Bam and KD plus 3 and 10 and guys like Thomas, Lamb, Kerridge, Graham, etc who were regular starters are now the fringe depth players. We should have some real competition for spots across all lines.

I'd pay out Palmer personally. He's on record as wanting an early clearance to head back West and play WAFL.

Graham and Buckley get one more year.

End of 2018 first 22:

Plowman Weitering Macreadie

Byrne Marchbank Docherty

Cuningham Cripps Pick 3

Fisher C.Curnow Silvagni

SPS McKay Pickett

Kreuzer Kennedy Murphy

IC: Williamson, Lang, E.Curnow, Pick 10

And you will like it

Plowman Jones Weitering
Byrne Marchbank Docherty

BACKLINE IS SET

Lang Curnow Fisher
Pickett McKay Silvagni

FORWARDLINE IS YOUNG, FAST AND MOBILE - Fisher Lang to regularly rotate through midfield

Kreuzer Cripps Murphy
Kennedy Cuningham SPS

STARTING MIDFIELD IS BALANCED - SIZE AND OUTSIDE USE

Pick 3 Pick 10 Williamson Curnow

BENCH/DEPTH STILL SHALLOW FOR 2018 - BUT WHEN PICKS 3 AND 10 mature...watch out!

He's a swingman. Useful to have on the bench. Can play as a tall wingman, and a third defender.

You want to go with 3 midfield rotations on the bench and 1 spare tall that can fill a variety of roles.

Fair point. I prefer Williamson in that role though. Unless you see him replacing Docherty (although I think it'd be a mistake to move Docherty from where he's the best in the comp).

Looking forward to picks 3 and 10 being able to develop more slowly and having to really bang the door down to get a gig.

From a list management point of view, today was a masterclass by SOS.

29yo out for 20yo, 21yo plus double-dip in top 10 of draft. Buying a backup ruck (needed) for nothing.

List wealth grew today FOR SURE. Oh, we'll get hammered next year and Gibbs will star at Adelaide, but long term, it was the day we had to have and it's gone very well. 3, 10, Kennedy... if we draft/develop them right, the list is in a tremendously exciting place.

Agreed.

Only small deficiencies are that he can’t kick, handball, run, tag, defend, attack or tackle.
