Fair effort. What does the standard of that league compare to?
I played in the league for a few season its a level below wafl and sanfl level where there are more bigger bodies. But the speed and skill level is high and being an avareged paced white fella up there was tough chasing and trying to lay a tackle.

I watched a fair bit of NEAFL. The top players are very good, but it drops off fast. In the NTFL a similar thing happens, the better players are very good and at the other end you can still get a kick if you can't. More like 1st divvy of some Melbourne leagues I'd suggest when the odd ressie has to come up and fill a spot or two.

Loved your analogy about being an average paced white fella. Have also played among our indigenous brothers in Qld. I once thought I was quick - perfectly describes the turn of speed that seems to be available at will - just not always willing to use it I found. Really fun guys to coach.

KB is suggesting he'll play in the last 2 of our 5peat.
KB isnt wrong often, well if you ignore all the years prior to this one.

I love KB getting a head of himself, it annoys the shit out of everyone but if anyone has the right to make rash predictions its Hungry.

Not sure if it is Waratah or #lolnorf playing St Marys :drunk:

SOM got a few possessions.... looked a bit nervous though....

Watching live i thought he mixed with it well. Bigger opponent was into him a bit but didnt take a step back. Knew the game and moved around the ground. Even directed his team mates a few times. Nothing too exciting but only saw a half. His warm up before the game looked very sharp.

An article in the NT News

The famous Rioli football lineage will continue at St Mary’s today when exciting 15-year-old Maurice Rioli Jr pulls on the green and gold jumper for his premier league debut.

The Saints’ 0-3 start will take a back seat as anticipation forms around how Maurice Jr, son of the legendary Maurice Snr, will handle starting on a half forward flank for his senior debut against Waratah.

Maurice Snr played 118 games for Richmond between 1982 and 1987 and is one of only four players to be a Norm Smith medallist in a losing grand final side.

Saints guns Shannon and Ben Rioli, as well as AFL footballers Daniel Rioli (Richmond), Cyril Rioli (Hawthorn), Willie Rioli (West Coast), Ben Long (St Kilda) and Jake Long (Essendon) are also relatives of Maurice Jr.

St Mary’s coach Rick Nolan said Maurice Jnr had been training well and had earnt his spot in the side.

“We usually debut a new Rioli almost every year … he’s the next lot of the production line that’s come through,” Nolan said. “He’s got a bit of pace and he’s strong for a very young boy. We’re not expecting too much from him because he’s still so young, he’s only just turned 15.

“He’ll be out there with Shannon and Ben to help him and he’s been training really well.”

Nolan said the addition of names such as Shannon and Ben Rioli, Jack Geary, Nick Yarren, Anthony Wilson and Michael Coombes would give his side a huge boost for the must-win game. “We have to win this week and we’ve got some good cattle back in the side to help,” he said.

MJ was excellent tonight. He fumbled on a couple of instances and still needs to get more penetration in his kicking, but he definitely has some serious tricks. Probably had 10 - 15 possessions (NTFL is very free flowing and thus lower possession counts) and kicked a nice goal but his defensive pressure was the highlight. I'd say he exceeded expectations, but he was against poor opposition. All in all a very positive debut and hopefully he enjoyed the experience out there. So still much football ahead of him until his draft year.

For those that are wondering, I think the plan is that he'll board at Scotch College from next year.

Watched the whole game...bloody exciting to see him run around in the ones...geez..at age 15! He took a nice lead up grab and his finish to jag his sausage roll was very nice. His defensive pressure was also very good ...this kid is gonna be awesome.. .
