He did go into bat and publicly support/praise him on AFL360. I’m sure/hope there’d more said behind close doors. Also mentioned the entire forward line was starved of opportunities.
Yeah, we had 42 (season average 50) and many were either dump kicks from a pressured kick out of the middle or a long bomb to a pack of 4-6 players.

Some of it was our fault but many kicks under pressure from Stringer, Parish and co. Freo hunted our midfield and we could not break loose too often.

I think his best is good, question is, can we unlock it often enough. No shame in finding form in VFL if need be as he must be under a fair bit of pressure.

If it is some long term plan I am ok with it but would still like to go with just Langers and a couple more smalls.

Really missing Setters in the middle as it gives Stringer more forward minutes. IMO he should be a 70/30 fwd/mid, not the other way around.

Need to remember that when Norf traded in Jarrad Waite, he was near the end of his career and Brad said his best footy was yet to come. Turns out Brad was right, so I can see why he feels confident he can get the best out of Weideman yet.

Stark contrast to Rutten throwing Stringer under the bus last year…

As an aside Waite did stop punching blokes for no reason at that time in his career too so that helped him build form when his body wasn't letting him down

I like Sam and what he brings to the table - but like any player - be it Kelly, Tippa, Davey, Hind or even Dylan Shiel - if your out of form get back to the two’s and work hard to get back into form..!!
Its no slight on Sam himself - he’s been trying to compete and some of our delivery into the forward 50 - particulalry against Freo - has made it hard for him.
But he needs to hit the scoreboard more…With Voss having had a pretty decent season in the reserves I dont see why we cannot swap the two - Voss gets a senior debut and we can see what he brings, Weid gets to go back and work on his form and gets told he must kick 2 goals minimum in the reserves…(like what Voss has been doing)

Voss has literally done that once in the last 5 games and twice in the last 8.

Same as Weed. And I'd be expecting Weed to do it easily at VFL level. No harm in giving Voss a shot

Yeah, there is. He's had one good game in 5 and doesn't deserve a call up. Weideman should be dropped, but not for Voss.

I'd rather we give him a couple of games to find out what we've got with him at AFL level. If it doesn't work out what have we lost? It's not like we should be actively competing for finals?

I'd rather give a player like D'Ambrosio or Wanganeen a run who've earned a call up a game.

Voss has kicked 17 goals from 11 games at VFL level in a battling team 18th on the ladder with just 2 wins - not a bad return for a 21 year old in experienced player. He also crashes packs and provides physical presence hence why many people have been calling for him to be given a chance at AFL level...
Weideman is a 26 year old experienced AFL player, playing in a top 6 team yet has only managed 13 goals from 12 games...

No harm in giving Voss a try a senior level and Weid a run in the two's

Mass isnt playing forward.

Could give Tex a run sure, Voss has hit the scoreboard more than him this season though. Suggests we didn't reward Voss earlier this year doesn't it?

Take away the first two games which had 9 of those goals. He's had 11 in the past 10 games, 8 in the last 8 and 3 in the last 4.

He doesn't crash packs. Have you watched him play at all? He's a lead and mark player. That's it. Yeah, people thought he should be getting a chance after his hot start. The past few weeks people have been saying the complete opposite and that he might get cut at the end of the year.

Calling up a kid who only might have broken a run of poor form for his debut? Against one of the best teams this year? There's plenty of harm because he hasn't earned the call up. If he goes goalless the next 2 weeks in the VFL you'll be posting in his thread about how concerning it is that he's kicked 11 goals in the past 12 VFL games instead. Because that's where he'll be playing.

He played wing/half forward on the weekend and has been playing more forward when he was sub.

Voss was in better form early on. Tex in better form now, plus already has AFL exposure.

Waite was a gun at carlton though.

my concern less about Brad getting the best out of him, vs. what that best turns out to be.
if can capture that '18 finals Weid form, you've got one of the top CHF's in the league.

He shouldn't be forward is probably more my point mate.

So we reward Tex's form now and never rewarded Voss? Seems unfair. ;)

Why dont you think we should be acitivly competing for finals after being 5th 4 days ago?

I can assure the club isnt thinking this internally
Again. It's a comment directed specifically at Eth. You're missing context that I cbf explaining.

Its only worth persisting if he's learning and showing improvement.

The annoying thing with weed is he is getting in the right spots and he is getting hands to the back, just cant clunk one. And when he gets a shot his kicking is woeful.

Good teams make players earn spots. Port dropped their captain because he isn't performing. That is what good teams do. Granted Port likely has more depth than us, we shouldn't be shying away sending someone back to the 2's to find form and or confidence.

That is a big reason Worsfold turned out shit. Refused to drop players and IMO made players too comfortable.
