I don’t think that’s a bad take. I’d add that we don’t have a plethora of senior small forwards, so he’s handy depth.I will cop it for this
Difference is menzie had a good year in 2023 and is someone who cracks in hard and trains hard from reports
Had a bad 2024 year but he did atleast show something last year which is why i believe they were willing to give him another year
Well it is a lot easier to be objective when you do not play favorites. And yet he remains president
His last interview said it was about security as well. Hawks sold him the vision and longer contract. We sat back thinking he would just sign. Maybe if we played him more then yes he stays but going on the last interview he probably would have if it was two years from the beginning. And it was not half back they sold him on. He did not really want to play half back. He played 80% wing and 20% half forward.I thought D'Ambrosio said it had more to do with opportunity. Mitchell made it clear he wanted to put him first cab off the rank in a senior wing or halfback role.

They did in the end so despite him playing VFL they still wanted him. They just let it slide too long.It was going to be hard for Dodoros team to offer a multiple year contract to a player that's playing reserves.
And that’s keeping Hep on the list for a couple of years to long, he didn’t bring enough, wasn’t a key position player offering protection, stopped others getting opportunities and just blocked developmentI thought D'Ambrosio said it had more to do with opportunity. No it doesn’t it happens all the time even Hayes just signed a two year deal despite not playing a senior gameIt was going to be hard for Dodoros team to offer a multiple year contract to a player that's playing reserves.
Someone will throw him a lifeline.
Joel Reynolds.Jake Long, Jay Neagle. Darcy Daniher was on the list 4 years too.
Anthony Long should never have been taken that high in the draft either
And if Jayden was not the son of one of your all time favorites you would not give a toss.Harry Jones, Zach Reid, Ben Hobbs, Nik Cox...
Imagine the scrutiny on these guys if they were father son selections. We keep plenty of guys around too long.
He didn't want it enough Hank. It happens.Harry Jones, Zach Reid, Ben Hobbs, Nik Cox...

James Hird, Dustin Fletcher, Jobe Watson and Joe Daniher. Not too shabby. We’re not too good at this breeding footballers thingy.
The same could be said for Archie Perkins. But there were never voices calling for him to go a season into senior footy. The whole "wouldn't be on the list" tripe that is lazily parroted is what I'm melting about. He didn't want it enough Hank. It happens.
Jayden was 1000000km behind Perkins as far as preparation and even effort in games. The same could be said for Archie Perkins. But there were never voices calling for him to go a season into senior footy. The whole "wouldn't be on the list" tripe that is lazily parroted is what I'm melting about.
Davey showed up to pre-season in poor shape both of his years on the list and had to start from a fair way back. His professionalism and ability were rightfully questioned and as result he is no longer on the list. The same could be said for Archie Perkins. it doesn’t matter, we needed them both to get the good one in the door, just like we had to commit to Zach to land Jackson MerrettDid anyone even bid on Jayden at the draft?
He did start from further back. Just makes the lack of time he was given all the more perplexing.Davey showed up to pre-season in poor shape both of his years on the list and had to start from a fair way back. He is not comparable with Massimo or Archie I don’t think. Probably more comparable with Yestin Eades or Noah Gawn
to be fair, i’ve made a lot of noise about EadesHe did start from further back. Just makes the lack of time he was given all the more perplexing.
There was very little noise made on Eades, and I don't think anyone has ever had anything to say about Gawn. But if you're a father son selection at this club supporters are on your back from day one. Even Jobe copped it after his first game.
If you tell a bloke he needs to pull his socks up or he’s probably going to get delisted and he continues to take an unprofessional approach how much more time is it worth giving him? There’s no point keeping a project player who isn’t willing to commit to the projectHe did start from further back. Just makes the lack of time he was given all the more perplexing.
