Coach Future of the club (Bevo, board, assistant coaches, football department)

I’m am avid fan of Bevo, but if it is true (a big if) bont has lost faith it’s over. All speculation of course as he seems to be coaching well this year with injuries, but in Bont we trust. And if he thinks we need a change, I’d back his judgement. But a big unfounded if.
If Bont at any point wants a change in coach, we grant it. Specially in a contract year for both.
Depending on who we can get to replace Bevo, I'm starting to think that it's time to do it, not really sure if he has it in him for another push into finals.

Agree, not many players deserve that level of power to influence who coaches or not, but the Bont does. He knows and sees more than us all and has the perspective and judgment I trust. I’d also guess that if bevo knew he had lost the bonts faith, he’d step aside.

Time will tell.

Off topic from the current conversation but still Bulldogs related.

For those of you who remember Nigel Kellett, who we know has CTE, is quite unwell and in a bad state. The CTE has progressed to the point of dementia type symptoms (not recognising family/freinds) and may not have long to go.

A close friend of his and acquaintance of mine, who went to school with Nigel, told me this via sms.

Hope Nigel can pull through but not looking good now.

Hard to know without being in the box, but to the naked eye there weren't enough moves made to stem the avalanche of goals, but at the same time where the hell is the leadership on field to do the same. It can't all be on bevo, surely some of the experienced players can stand up and do something. Put yourself behind the ball, close down their damaging players, it feels to me we are bereft of leadership.
Think the core problem is we are lacking some class to put the finish on and kick the key goals when we create the opportunities. We had a few chances that could of put the brakes on their charge.
Probably the key difference when they had the chance they nailed the goals and we came up short.

In what sense is one of the best players in the comp, and our captain, loving his coach unfortunate?

With incomplete information you know better than Bont?

🥱
Bont for Captain-Coach!

Just feels we are one gun classy small fwd and Bont back in, from winning a flag.

we have to figure out what to do with the backline.

Lobb-Jones-JoD is a bad fit. Buku is preferred but is really just a better Gardner - does one thing.

Both trios leave us very exposed at ground level (look at the hawks final…). But you could put in Busslinger or Gardner…same would apply.

So there’s a need for that 3rd tall/hybrid defender, Coffield was a Hail Mary. There’s also the Doc replacement issue.

Lobb and Jones are a bit of a wall in the air but we are massively susceptible at ground level.

Bevos beloved high press also leaves us completely exposed way too often for little gain.

Fond memories of Nigel and his runs down the WO wings and flanks, usually with tongue out (see a couple of the footy card shots below).

A sad situation, he was attending games in recent years with his father as his carer. Tough gig as a parent. Wishing Nigel and his family all the best, no other words really. 😢
(Seems bizarre, but I would have been at probably 80-90% of the games he played, and can't recall him being concussed, unlike some other players. Guessing he just played on through them, which would not have been unusual at the time. ☹)

I've seen this story before. Didn't this exact same thing happen in 2019-2020? With St Kilda?

If he goes I’d be asking the question of Adam Simpson. Fwiw I’m more than happy for Bevo to stay
1)I go back on forth about Bevo. On one hand, if the connection he has with the playing group isn’t an exaggeration. Any future change over would likely mean terrible growing pains for two years. We’ll more than likely slip down the ladder for a while, wasting the final years of Libba, Bont and Ads. Also I don’t see us bringing in Longmire/Simpson and competing immediately for a Flag at all. Bevo has mentored an entire generation of Bulldog talent and they trust him, trust isn’t given it’s earned.

2) On the other, we have almost completely wrung Bevo’s style dry. Nine years on from the Fairytale and Football is visibly more congested and less free flowing. I can’t see us winning another flag with him coaching, especially given his aversion to tagging and reluctance to recruit/recommend a proper small forward.

3) Beveridge to the Dee’s would do wonders for fixing their culture and PR image. You think Bevo would allow the Bont to be sent out to play half dead?

For those wanting him gone who is better that's available atm?

You won’t know unless you look but Hinkley Longmire Buckley Simpson and sone assistants you would need to seek out

Unfortunately Bont loves Bevo. He wants him to stay.
This is the key really. I know the tail should never wag the dog, but there is always exceptions and Bont is an exception. If Bont was off him, it would be time. Bont seems wiser to me than Bevo, less hang ups and ego and insecurities? But Bont is young and coaching may bring these things to the surface? Time will tell.
