A reminder before this game's alleged release.

PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING
Hello. Perhaps you've been here before. Perhaps you haven't. If you haven't, here's what you need to know: these threads have a long history of being dumpster fires. For that reason, we take a much stricter approach to moderation than we otherwise do.

What is okay:
  • Heated debate / disagreement
  • Criticising the game / developers
  • Praising the game / developers
  • General shit talk

What is not okay:
  • Personal attacks / name calling / abuse / criticising the person rather than the argument / game
  • Repeating the same thing over and over and over and over (and over) to push an agenda or attempt to dominate the thread

We will not hesitate to permanently thread ban you if you are taking too much of our time.

In the wise, wise words of Jasper Beardsley:

This thread is bringing back memories now. Remember when they said they accidentally sent a pre release build live and thats why there were issues?
When the ship containing the Xbox shipment never arrived? When in reality, Microsoft wouldn't let them release the game in the broken state it was in.

So if we don't see anything over Gather Round, chances are we know nothing was learned last time around and can expect the same weird ‘promotion’ until release day?
This is nothing out of the ordinary for Big Ant. They never release anything before release, for all their other games, the first time we see gameplay will be leaked footage at an event.

Big Ant are clearly out of their depth when it comes to making video games, but their lack of promotion a month before release has nothing to do with their inability to create a game worth playing. They've been doing this for 10 years now, at least.

They're banking on people who are unaware of their shovelware to purchase it, I'm going to be shocked if they show any gameplay footage. With 23, they made bogus excuses to not show clear quality gameplay footage.

lol @ me and others in old threads talking about centre bounce strategies, and how player ratings translate into gameplay, and playing 15 or 18 man zones.

Now its 'I want to control which direction my guy runs in'.

Heh I remember posting screenshots of AFL 99 on the PSone which had fully functioning centre bounce and kick in from behind tactics and getting excited about what they could do so many years later so much more powerful hardware.

Good times 🤣😭

I'd be more excited about a Christian Petracca cooking sim.*

*I will buy AFL 26

It's hard to expect anything different or improved when the marketing tactics are the same. This time the "word of mouth" strategy will only caution people to hold off a purchase instead of going all in

He's doing massive shilling for it like people mentioned earlier, these influencers are trying to con people. He's calling the pro team from 23 "elite" and trying to hoodwink those into thinking 26 will be "phenomenal" without even any gameplay footage and the game is only weeks away. Looks identical to 23 from the teaser, too, with just "new marking/bumping mechanics" as the gameplay changes mentioned, nothing more.

No ones actually expecting the game to launch on May 8 right? Surely we’re past trusting anything from BA

Imagine on launch day we get the exact same tweet from Big Ant ‘We’re aware of issues with the game. We’ll be releasing ongoing patches and a roadmap’

Would. SHIT. Myself laughing.
They're repeating the same scam again, it's unreal they think people are going to fall for it this time. Same MO, YouTuber goes in for hazy footage that should have been presented as clear gameplay footage by the developer. The developer purposely doesn't showcase the game and cite all the new features, and then they release it as unplayable shovelware and lie in tweets that they're "solving the issue".

I can't wait to see if it's the same old story or if there's actual improvement (guessing not lol).

I don't think they'd care if certain people just posted videos of the bad game play + glitches this time around.

They already have their usual suspect YouTubers trying to con people, instead of addressing concerns about how 23 did not function at a basic level, they mainly bring up superficial game modes they want for 26 that don't improve the completely broken gameplay.

Minigames were part of AFL 23's advertised features right, that wasn't a fever dream I had?

They haven't advertised them for 26 but if they actually pull a decent management and career mode out their arse it won't bother me anymore.

Still think they're saying the right things re: marking and tackling/bumping, but words mean nothing with this mob. We've seen nothing.

And they've said nothing about AI running patterns etc and how it feels to control. Can we FINALLY control our selected player 100% of the time? Can't believe this needs to be asked of an interactive game 🤦‍♂️

To be honest, that's very lacklustre for the only advertised new gameplay mechanics, and we don't even know what the marking/bumping mechanics are. And only that YouTuber claimed they'd be a new tackling mechanic, nothing from BA themselves.

They're still running around in nonsensical ring patterns in 23 and random stopping.

I knew it! References to the promised minigames appear to have been purged from Big Ant's website, online stores etc

And you're right, it is a lacklustre list of improvements, but I have zero expectations so if they can get over the low bar I set (better/pack marking, actual bumping/jostling off the ball, gang tackles etc), and pair that with decent AI (remember when Ross said an AFL assistant coach advised on the AI? My god...) I'll be happy from a gameplay perspective.

So long as my player reliably runs in the direction I push the stick of course.

I don't think they will hit those dizzying highs though.
