Well Law La is going at 15.2 so he just needs a couple of 30 poss games and he is on par
No doubt but there is a perception that Dusty took time maybe not by Richmond supporters per say but oppo supporters definitely...
Not saying he was at his absolute peak when he started no one is but he was already doing things that 150 gamers do in the midfield.

Sam Lalor is already showing that match-winning talent, he is certainly way ahead of guys like Petracca, De Goey & Rayner 1st season at AFL.

Yep. The FOS fan boys are annoying.

The most overrated player in the draft. If you play him at half forward like Lalor he would barely be getting 10 touches a game. He couldn't even find the ball in the juniors.

The fact many people wanted FOS over Lalor is staggering to me
We all love Lalor.

FOS will be a star. Not sure why people feel the need to call him overrated 2 games into his career.

You'd love to have FOS in our team right now.

I called him overrated based off his junior play and red flags in juniors not 2 games at AFL. I didn't want him at pick #1. If it was a later pick it's a different conversation.

Naturally the odds are in the favour of pick 2 which is why many would be happy to say he will be a star based off draft position. Let's see how it plays out and revisit this at a later date when it's appropriate to do redraft lists.

Who was the Fl*g that kept telling us FOS at pick #1 was a certainty ?
Anybody remember who he was

Might be another Will Phillips.

Still, I followed all of the top lads last year and hope they all go well.

I can't believe this narrative of O'Sullivan is the clear standout for the Rising Star... Lalor, stats wise, has had a better year so far (outside of marks).

After this weekend that narrative will surely shift

Lalors game was colossal and he displayed every single trait that made him the number one pick

Contested wins, contested mark, footy iq, tackling and leadership
Against one of if not the best team in the comp

Gee the Dusty comparisons worry me lol
He looks unfazed now, I hope he can keep all the external noise out of his head his whole career

Fantastic start, unbelievable what he is doing. But let’s not lose sight that it is virtually impossible to achieve the heights of Dusty, and if he gets half way there we have an absolute star

Dusty should’ve legitimately made AA in his 2nd or 3rd season when he kicked 30goals plus. Hate hearing Dusty took time, Dusty was a ****en gun from day dot.

I just did a same age comparison on Footywire and the key differences between the two reveals the way Dusty was played versus the way Lalor's being played rather then their abilities. Dusty was played on the ball a lot in his first year, hence the higher possession rate and an average of 4.8 clearances a game to Lalor's current average of 1. Conversely, Dusty only averaged 0.5 goals a game and 0.2 goal assists whereas Sam is currently averaging 1.2 goals a game and 1.8 goal assists. So you could make an argument that, despite having fewer possessions, Lalor is having more of an impact than Dusty did in his first year, which is pretty crazy given that impact is pretty much what defined Dusty as a footballer.

Well said.
Harley Reid was the next Dusty.
12mnths on i think the Eagles would take Dustys shoelasses.

Agree, the whole 'dusty took a while to get going' is such an annoying misconception... Dusty was instantly good. Seems like people just didn't notice till the whole team got going (i.e. 2017) and then dusty went GOAT mode.

Back to Lalor - couldn't be happier with how he is going so far. Crazy good.

Reid is 12mths older than our current draftees this year might be a speed bump in his career but he’s still on track to be a very very good player. He just needs to pull his head in, own worst enemy.

Think WCE is pretty close to being his worst enemy too.

The club and the whole city have been walking on eggshells since he arrived desperate for him not to bolt back to Victoria.

Letting a teenager dictate so much about how the club operates and lack of boundaries is completely irresponsible and shows up in the way Harley now operates.

Still think he’s going to be a star, hardly the first petulant teenage athlete to figure it out as they mature or move to better environments.

Super true

Ried was regularly and still is headlining the news reports and newspapers out west but if you compare to the type of media attention Lalor gets it’s massive

Despite both being very similar

He’s taking the absolute piss at the moment.

Tied for 1st in the league for goal assists already. 10 score involvements on the weekend (#1 on the ground). Getting his hands on the ball and even kicking goals himself. Few more preseasons, more time in the middle as his fitness builds and we have one of the most damaging footballers in the league in our hands.

Pretty exciting…

How much he was involved with Simpson being fired also a question for mine. We will never know the truth but that interaction between him and Simpson at the last press conference was weird and to me indicated Harley at least influenced it either directly or indirectly.

lalor mightnt have got the ridiculous beatlemania hysteria of reid but i think he still handled the pressure and spotlight incredibly well, super humble well spoken. very different personalities.
