Interesting selection this week and what the match committee is saying to those on the perimeter.

First up for Duursma, Fisher and Logue the message is show me your form and domination consistently at the lower level before we call you up. You’re not in our best 26 and this is the standard we are after.

I think for Finbar, Hardemann and Dawson it’s a case of we want to acknowledge your doing and what we have asked and you are real close. But keep it up for now and your chance will come.

Can’t see Konstanty, Phillips or Pink missing out. Tucker was very good last week and deserves to be picked again and Stephens the sub.

And we've not looked this good for a long long time. Also, we don't have a known tall commodity thats banging the door down. Your argument is garbage.
If there was another tall on the list who could effectively play forward and ruck and was mobile, they'd be a chance. We haven't got anyone.

We've got Teakle and Maley.

Hawthorn are running just Chol primarily. Sicily/Gunston chopping out but even then Sicily is 189cm, Gunston was 193cm at his peak due to aging is probably sitting comfortably at 180cm
Although its not really about height and more about play style IMO.
You make use of what you have at your disposal. There's not one specific, non negotiable, way to play.

Both can play that role and teakle did last year

Tonight dons had Draper, Bryan, caddy, jones
Plus Tom Edwards

And still ran over the tarps who went small

Isn't Logue injured?

Sure but it only works if the talls mark the ball or are fit enough to cover ground and defend in transition.
Also, it helps when Port plays Soldo and Jordon Sweet in the same team, as it's equal ruck pairings.
As shown earlier in the week on First Crack, the Crows exploited * having two rucks in the team by running off them in transition and Bryan/Draper couldn't or wouldn't go with them defensively. It can become a liability against certain teams.

Just watching the 1st half out at Box Hill against the Hawks. Maley is playing (2 goals, should be 3) and looks like Hardemann will be the emergency on ground in ADL. Will Dawson has taken some nice marks, but his disposal by foot is woeful. Last 2 targets with no pressure, both out of bounce, and one on the full. He won’t be going anywhere near the 1’s until he and the coaches sort these basics out. Harvey like his Dad is a nice little short kick to target. Reeves is giving Goad a lesson in the Ruck.

Great game by young Matt Whitlock today in the VFL. Really nice kick and got plenty of it down back along with Tomlinson. Early days, but would be ahead of both Dawsons based on what I saw today. The team coughed up a handy lead and through ill discipline in the last QTR (2x 50’s) got rolled by a more composed Hawks. No one beating down the door saying to pick me pick me. Ford did a hammy and Fisher had concussion.

So what to make for next week when the selectors sit down to pick a side against the Swans? It will be our 3rd game at Marvel in 4 weeks. Who to get dropped and who to bring in?

Clarko needs to demand more hardness from the playing group. It’s no use having finesse and silky players who don’t put their body on the line and for that reason Stephens and RHJ need a spell in the VFL. Too many fumbles and just can’t lay a decent tackle. I would call up Payne for a debut, or even Harvey who has a big of niggle about him. Fisher has concussion and cannot be picked, and Duursma is way off the pace and looked to be going thru the motions yesterday in the VFL. Is not deserving a spot on current form.

X might struggle to get up from a Hammy, so Teakle would come in who showed some form in the VFL on the weekend. Is he insurance on the bench so Darling’s game is not sacrificed being forced to ruck too much if X plays?

A few calling for Phillips to be dropped, but Wardlaw will come back in the VFL for at least 1 week. Phillips uses the ball well, but does not get it enough over the 4 QTRs. He might get the sub vest this week until he can run out 4 QTRs.

Does Hardemann come in for Tucker for the other HB role? Not sure we should be making so many changes in one week, as it will upset the structure. I think Tucker survives.

Logue needs to provide he can play a full match, and best to do that in the VFL with his suspect body.

Out: Stephens and RHJ
In: Payne/Harvey and Teakle

Need a line-breaker in defence (that can defend) so badly.

Was coming in here to post about exactly that. Should be priority number 1 for the MSD if there are any mature age stand outs in the state leagues.

If we don’t get Maynard, one player I’d love to throw the kitchen sink at is Darcy Wilmont from Brisbane. Kid has stepped up big time in the absence of Kiddy Coleman. Tough as nails, besutiful user and his accumulation game is improving year on year. Contracted until 2027 though…
