Yeah like i said probably don't even care that much, but if we finish bottom 5 if you take into account 28 plus the other picks which probably equal another pick in the 20s it's pretty hefty
It could absolutely come back to bite us in the arse but ill hold fire for now as I really like Lindsay.

The biggest issue with how we toss away later picks is we're kind of abandoning development as a method to improve the team. Outside of Mentha there is basically no one at Casey that could potentially rise up to the seniors. We have a lot of list cloggers right now.

Yeah that's kinda my issue too, I'm all for grabbing top 10 players as much as possible because I've always said your top 10 wins you flags not your bottom few. You need stars.

But it feels like we've given away so many picks that now our bottom 10 looks as bad as it has in a decade
Henderson, Sharp, Johnson, Billings, Turner, Woewodin, Howes, Old McDonald, Spargo, Bowey, Laurie, Hore, Adams, Fullerton

There's a great chance none of them are on the list in 3 years

Was Viney 4 years? lol I thought it was 3.
Not great.
He had this year already and we gave him an extra 3. Just a really dumb move and North were chasing him so we would have gotten a late first or early second for him probably.

I think one reason the club was scared to lose him though is we have an absolute derth of leadership at the club. It actually would have been fine to give him that sort of deal if the club was fully investing in a rebuild. Then you're more paying him for what he does off the field with the young players but we're fence-sitting at the moment.

The good news I guess is if we do blow up the list you just piss off all those guys immediately and then finding 2nd and 3rd rounders to replace them with is pretty easy these days.

The biggest worry is, outside of Kozzy, I think just about every player we've re-signed has gone backwards or at the very best stayed the same.

Trac, Oliver, Viney, Rivers, JVR, Fritsch, Lever, Petty, all gone backwards since re-signing.

So many players seem to have lost their spark. I don't know what it is about this club but we are like football vampires. Players come here looking good only to slowly degrade into shells of themselves. Same shit as the Bailey/Neeld era.

I'd say investing in the draft the past couple of years has been a good move even if we only did it because no players wanted to come to us.

We tried to give up 3 first rounders (Windsor, Tholstrupp, Langford) picks for Harley Reid.

Then we tried to give up the 2 picks (Langford, Lindsay) for Houston

Wouldn’t say it was a deliberate investment, more that we failed to get trades done.

The only reason we had some of those picks is because Jackson ****ed off as well.

**** that Reid trade would be so bad from our list perspective. We have **** all depth as it is. Even if Tholstrup never pans out I think I much prefer Windsor and Langford going forward.

Ill maintain we would have never traded that for Houston given what Port ended up letting him go for under contract.

To be fair I would love nothing more than for one of our players to give opposition supporters the bird.

Petracca will probably give the Melbourne supporters the bird first.

This footage from First Crack pretty much highlights your point re: spark.

And its only Round 3.

It's all low hanging fruit and stuff we've been banging on about on here for a while now, but glad to finally see it laid out plainly in the media.

The Trac, Oliver & Viney love-in isn't working. Our game style is indeed defunct.

Goodwin needs to drop Viney or play him as a defensive forward and give Windsor and Langford at least 60-70% midfield time.

When Tholstrups back tell him that Viney or Sparrow's spot is up for grabs if he wants it.

Our senior players have been absolutely dogshit and not impacting games. Let them know that we're making way for the next era and see if they feel like giving a shit then.

Like with everything it seems lately, the doomsayers on Dees big footy board were well ahead of the club and the AFL media when it comes to these things. We knew the Viney extension was horrible at the time, we've been saying Windsor in the midfield since early last year.

Imagine if we spent any decent cap space on another ruck when we have so many gaping holes in actually important positions.

We can't go forward after this current era with our dominant midfield, to an abject failure in the ruck... as we try to build young inside mids.
We have to have a ruck who is a genuine follower... give me DeKoning, for sure... but that would just create huge future headaches for us.

sDraper is genuinely somewhere between a follower and a tall forward. the perfect foil for Maxy now... as Maxy is getting on. And Draper is dangerous dropping into attack.
vanRooyen isn't so strong overhead, for the big pack-marks, so Draper would be more than useful in this area of our game... 2 talls deep... and a CHF pushing high and wide upfield, Drpaer could push right up high for our kickouts, then quickly move back into deep F50 ahead of the footy.
This would allow us to have both Maxy and Draper providing separate marking targets for our outlet kicks from defence.

Draper would not cost us the Earth and Moon... and is a free agent this year. The Bummers are on a rebuild just announcing a new extension for coach Scott, ahead of this season. Signalling this new found rebuild at Tullamarine.

Timing is everything in footy and we are ripe for a real decent follower to tide us over. He would not cost us picks. Just salary cap.

Nothing we can do at the trade table right now obviously so I’ll hold full judgement until later in the year.

It’s looking like we do need a reset though.

New coach/fresh messenger.

We aren’t trading Gawn or Viney and even May holds little value now.

I’d try to keep Kossie and see what we can get for Trac and Clarry. Would be happy to contribute to contracts if needed - I suspect shifting Petracca is the one that will get the best interest.

I’d also move Fritsch on for an early second and look to get more foot speed in the front half. This talk of needing a gun tall forward is not the priority in my opinion.

Unless you're getting a Gawn or a Cox, the ruck is mostly irrelevant.

Elite rucks like them can influence the outcome of a game.

Amy other level of ruck can be worked around if you have the right midfielders and coaching.
Again,,,, its not the hit-outs that's required... its the marking ability around the ground... that's the real issue we need.

What’s he got to do with Lindsay other than being 27 picks in the draft cheaper?

My point is that we should have split the Langford pick to grab multiple kids with speed, skills and ability who run both ways. It was the draft to do it that ran deep.

Hell we could have just swapped pick 6 with Essendon, still taken Lindsay, picked up Moraes at 37 (our original 2nd rounder), kept our 2025 first rounder and got some extra juice from Essendon for the upgrade in getting them ahead of the Kako bid.

Langford isn’t even going to be able to develop sitting behind the 4 amigos + the occasional Rivers, Pickett and Chandler (and maybe even Melksham) in the guts.
I think we just witnessed that our inside beast mids are getting found out just a bit and have a lack for speed.

Langford, i just witnessed some real class from the games highlights. Something to be really excited for. And Chandler also looks to be raising his level, If i'm not mistaken.

I can see Langford becoming a regular inside-mid this season.

Funny for me to say this , but I'd move Viney (for pennies on the dollar, pay some of the contract if need be) and Trac and actually keep Oliver.

Trac clearly the better player but he will get us some good picks back, I doubt Oliver will, the time to trade him was after 2023. Hope a new coach can turn him around instead of selling at an all time low.

If Koz goes he goes. Preferably for picks only.

Lever would also be on the way out the door for me if we can get anything half decent back. (early second)

Don't want to trade our only decent forward in Slick (particularly for a second round pick) until a new coach has had a chance to use him correctly.
