Tabs went from having concrete hands to being the best contested mark in the league. Let's hope he shows similar improvement.
These guys like Tabs and Voss they can play important roles if they learn to be exactly that, a role player.

The positive for Voss is he knows how to find the ball. He just tends to make poor decisions and has suspect execution. However, anyone that can find the ball as much as he is, is something to work with. If he can't improve his team game and execution then he becomes a great WAFL player. It is good to provide a few opportunities to find out.

His review was no doubt scathing. It is not an understatement to say he lost Freo the game last week. I hope that he learned a bit of humbleness through the week and comes out having learned some vital lessons.

This is a one sided take. Erasmus put his head over it multiple times, stuck tackles and had several goal assists, one direct.

Voss’ cat-9 was frankly undefendable - not exactly fair to blame Erasmus. He was gassed in the final minutes and called for help. Where were the HBs and wingers? We are a rabble on D, it’s not Erasmus.

And just generally, writing off players after 24 games is so f***ing tiresome. I try to be level headed in this thing but it just makes you seem like a d***head. Those are 24 incredibly interrupted games mind you due to crappy management.

The kid was one of the best players in the wafl last year, if not the best. He’s a finals-lifting player, as evident from the grandy. He’s played some quality afl games, including last week if you were actually honest. He comes back every pre reason bigger and fitter. He chose not to entertain other offers (which he had) as he is loyal to Freo. Why the hate?

He has things to work on - touch, forward craft, game awareness. So does every player. He is far from a write off.

Maybe he’d be better and more confident if he was backed in a bit more, by fans overly focused on his draft rank, and by our very average selection committee.

Feel like we’re writing Erasmus off after each game rather than 24 games tbh.

I wasn’t unhappy with how he was tracking in 2022 or even 2023 but he was barely given a game last year at all. Meanwhile Johnson is given two seasons straight to come good which tbh he looks like doing only now. Nothing wrong with the treatment shown to Johnson btw but I can’t help thinking Erasmus would come good or least get a lot better if we didn’t demote him to sub or WAFL at each and every opportunity.

My biggest question over Johnson is whether he can do it with the main boys all in the side. Against Geelong he was good but against Sydney he seemed to play outside more and have less impact. He’ll play even more outside with Young in the side.

I agree, and now we have taken NOD off the wing because the mids are getting bullied.
Just get Neil to tag or run with the opposition best, and rest forward for a break.
Erasmus, Johnson need to play in the rotations.
Make Brayshaw a mid/halfback, etc, use the flanks to move players around.
Now Walker is gone, drop another defender and strengthen the 18 quality.

I think they made the right decision with Johnson by giving him sustained development.

Giving sustained development to two emerging players, with finals a possibility, is a different decision rather than the same decision twice. I can fully understand why you wouldn't do that.

Johnson does some good things that suggest he'll be a good AFL player when he gets to about 80 games so worth persevering with.

Reid and Simpson have shown more in their couple of games at AFL level than Erasmus, so it's hard to justify keeping him in the side.

Just discovered you can bet behind scorers at Tabtouch

Can load up on Voss for some consolation prizes when he inevitably has a couple misses today

You can usually bet on Glendinning-Allan Medal but doesn't appear to be a market?

Baker will go to Serong and Brayshaw will have 30 and a goal and win the medal.

Will this be the last game JL coaches for us?

(Of course not we’re missing 6 b22 players). (WC isn’t that bad they almost beat the reigning premiership)

You know they’ll give him every excuse in the book

I've never been as big on Johnson as general consensus. I would've been more prepared to hedge bets and give both some opportunities. But concede you're right and the people in charge couldn't really make that call.

Still think it leaves us in some bother if Johnson doesn't develop as we need him to in the next 20 odd games.

Johnson has shown minimal, people are just wearing purple glasses. Guarantee if he didn't play for us nobody here would see anything in him

So lets get this straight
Voss and Erasmus are playing (Voss after he costs us the game last week )
James Aish sits in the stands
Am I missing something here ? are we even trying to win ?

Players don’t get dropped because of a mistake they make at the end of the game. They get dropped based on their whole game.

You just don’t drop a key forward who had equal most shots on goal and marks i50 for the whole game.

Some players just aren't up to the level, thats why they get de listed....
Then picked up by Freo
maybe if we had a good back up ruck (like Meek) we wouldn't need the like s of Voss
Meanwhile million dollar Darcy has the best summer of his career, then the season starts, where is he ?

You really dislike Erasmus.

He wasn’t that bad last week. He needs to tidy up his handballs and look to free the arms a bit more so he doesn’t get caught HTB so often. He put his body on the line a few times which is more than a few others.

Will Brodie is not the answer. That is coming from someone who has watched hours and hours of Peel games the past two years. There is a reason that no other team took any interest in trading for him last year. He was definitely put up for trade and there was 0.00% interest so we packed that up quickly.

If we lose today, then I would say yes.
If we win today and lose against either the Bulldogs at home next week or the Tigers in Gather round, then he'll be gone after which ever happens first.

We can't be going into round 6 against Melbourne with anything other than a 3-win 2-loss ration IMO.

Can people get off Voss. Yes he needs to clean up parts of his game, but tell me if he is not playing with intent in his first 10 games.
There isn't anyone else to bring in & he plays with real aggression.
Let's not take his the confidence to play out of his game & watch him improve.

Ok Mr Hindsight go back 3 years and tell a freo that just made finals to trade out their reigning b&f for a guy who’d only played 15 games in 5 years.

Voss has shown so much more at this age than Meek ever did. Had Meek even played a game yet?

You keeping the same energy if Voss gets picked up by someone else and his 4 shots a game get cleaned up into 3 goals?

He’s good depth to have and no amount of James Aish is going to change that.
