So one bad thing? In that case, someone tell Brayshaw to enjoy Peel, if that's how it works, because he was useless

One bad thing that cost us the game when he's young legs in the side and only played about 60% game time so should have been willing/able to go with his man.

Also went at 43% disposal efficiency so if Erasmus isn't accountable and can't hit the side of a barn what are his strengths?

If he was taken with pick 60 no one would be backing him in. We all want early picks to become stars but it's not going to happen with Erasmus.

I agree he made several costly mistakes. Why is he in the team? Because it is obvious he has some great traits and he is young. He is big and the bigger boys usually take longer to settle into themselves. And I don't think he is obviously keeping anyone better out of the team. Does that answer your question?
He’s in because he has a crack got a bit of mongrel lacks a little poise but deserves to be there

This is a one sided take. Erasmus put his head over it multiple times, stuck tackles and had several goal assists, one direct.

Voss’ cat-9 was frankly undefendable - not exactly fair to blame Erasmus. He was gassed in the final minutes and called for help. Where were the HBs and wingers? We are a rabble on D, it’s not Erasmus.

And just generally, writing off players after 24 games is so f***ing tiresome. I try to be level headed in this thing but it just makes you seem like a d***head. Those are 24 incredibly interrupted games mind you due to crappy management.

The kid was one of the best players in the wafl last year, if not the best. He’s a finals-lifting player, as evident from the grandy. He’s played some quality afl games, including last week if you were actually honest. He comes back every pre reason bigger and fitter. He chose not to entertain other offers (which he had) as he is loyal to Freo. Why the hate?

He has things to work on - touch, forward craft, game awareness. So does every player. He is far from a write off.

Maybe he’d be better and more confident if he was backed in a bit more, by fans overly focused on his draft rank, and by our very average selection committee.

At the beginning of the year I highlighted the need for a second bigger-bodied midfielder (190cm+) to compliment Young and we still haven't found one yet. We really need Johnson to step up this derby.

Against Sydney he had:
0 clearances
0 centre clearances
0 contested marks
2 tackles
2 contested possessions

This kind of bruise free footy from a 193 cm, 85kg+ midfielder is just unacceptable. I may be a little harsh on him as he has only played 40 games but he has the tools necessary to be that big bodied midfielder we desperately need. We can't trial Jackson in the centre until Darcy is back so it's Johnson's time to shine. I just feel like the club let's too many players cruise around.

Johnson gets gifted games

Zero hurt factor
Omera much the same.

O'mera was decent though, and stepped up when Serong and Brayshaw were absent. He plays to his ceiling whereas Johnson plays no where near it. You put Ras' workrate and attack on the football in Johnson and you have a gun footballer.

His strengths are size, endurance, tackling and pressure. In the clinches (not so much in open field due to lack of speed). He is actually accountable. His attributes on paper are almost identical to Dunkley in terms of size, speed, skills, tackling, position. Of course there is the broad question of basic footballing ability and decision making.

Dunkley hit his straps at around game 35, halfway through his 3rd year when he was 21 years and 6 months. Erasmus is currently at game 24 (a large amount being sub) and 21 years and 3 months. I'm not suggesting he can rival Dunkley, that looks extremely unlikely. But if we got a B-grade Dunkley then it may be OK.

You are cherry picking one example which is not a reflection on his game overall. He was willing, he just didn't have the leg speed. And why throw the blame all at him? That passage was caused by the Voss howler, followed by a Chapman mistake on the mark which started the overlap. And look at the footage of Brayshaw. Literally walking on the wing and doing nothing. Sharp does not try to cover, he's more interested in his man. Good teams will roll off and cover for each other if necessary in a domino effect.

The 43% is overblown. He has average skills, that's a fact, but that particular number is a bit misleading. There were two short passes put to good positions that the forwards couldn't mark. Two kicks inside 50 that were smothered (his fault for being too slow to get boot to ball, but that's not quite the same as a poor kick). All ineffective on the stats sheet. The only bad disposals I remember were the handball to Jackson's feet and the shot on goal. Meanwhile Sharp and Ryan can launch useless long bombs to packs and they go down as effective disposals on the stats sheet.

Imagine this. Voss has 50 more games under his belt and converts most of those goals. He would have been one of the highest rated players on the ground. He was taking contested marks, kicking goals and rucking. The kid has potential but he needs time to work on his craft. He didn't lose us the game, the team and coach lost us the game.

I’m all for having Voss in the team over Reidy, but Voss doesn’t take contested marks (zero last week), he is hopeless marking over his head

Time will tell, will be happy to be proven to be a d***head but can't see it happening.

Even if he becomes a Matt deBoer/Tendai Mzungu role player that's a win.

Can't see it happening though, more of a Cam Sutcliffe/Tommy Sheridan. A good WAFL player without the tools to establish himself at AFL level.

Voss gives a contest and takes marks on the lead though.

If his goal kicking improves he's a handy fringe player.

Hopefully have Darcy back for the Demons game and Voss and Reidy are both at Peel.

What was even more annoying is that when he created separation or had an uncontested mark he still leapt up took it on the chest like a soccer goal keeper. He has zero confidence in being able to mark the ball with arms out in front. Then he comes in from the side and intercepts Amiss who is on a nice lead and Amiss is someone who takes the ball out in front. Voss needs to be more of a team player. I don’t mean having a good celebration with his mates, I mean shepherding and blocking off the ball and knowing when to lead such as early leads to open up space for another forward and when to hold back and let another take it on.

His similarities to Tabs are uncanny

TBF missing Walters and Fyfe doesn't really mean a lot because they are both barely in the 22 when fully fit.

We are really missing Darcy and Young though.
Walters would have been very handy the last 2 weeks. Firstly without Bolton and then without switta.

Fyfe would have been very handy with young missing.

And both very handy with such and inexperienced team.

That's cause he didn't play inside mid. And neither did Erasmus, they had 4 centre bounce attendances each. I question why we bother playing either when we don't put them in the middle.

It's also why O'Meara appears to be playing so much better. He's gone from 60-70% TOG playing mainly wing, to 85% playing as the 3rd inside midfielder.

If we think Fyfe & Walters are going to get us a flag we are in big trouble.
If we can't win because we are missing 2 players, Darcey & Young then we are also neck deep in it 😂
No one is saying that, only that experienced heads keep everyone focussed on the task at hand. The last six games the inexperience in the side has shown, with critical errors being made late in the game.

They aren't keystones, but can be important in keeping the whole structure together.
