I have no issues playing him in defense but he has a lot of qualities which are highly desirable for a midfielder. He could be one of those athletes that is very close to putting it together.
One thing that stands out is he does not lose his feet often at all. Tremendous centre of gravity. A bit like Bailey Smith in that regard.
He is excellent in 1-v-1s, but the major, major quality he lacks for a mid yet is the ability to find the footy. Same as O'Connor - very good athlete, not a footballer yet and thus better off following an opponent.

Doesn't anyone remember 07.

We were shit in the first 5 or 6 games, troubled player/s. Maybe we are just finding our way with the kids but Scott could look at doing something similar to what the club did back then to get us on track.

I think Cameron, Henry and Stengle need a rocket at least.

One last point: fans of opposing teams who have this bizarre belief that we can just scoop up star after star due to "house/farm/land" freebies obviously don't pay attention to our team. How "star-studded" was our team this week? Holmes, Smith, Cameron (ha!), Stengle, and a 34-year-old Danger...we have less star power than most other teams pushing for a top 8 spot (Exhibit A: look at the Lions line-up compared to ours). But apparently we're the ones rooting the system? OK, rant over.

I started a thread on this in the main forum just to see what happened and it's going pretty healthy. It drives me nuts.

Literally half of Collingwood's team has been lifted from other sides. Hawthorn and Brisbane are pretty close, too.

I agree with the sentiment on here that we lack another quality mid. Been a big hole left with Selwood and Guthrie. Holmes is doing really well and Smith will slot in better with more time, I believe in Clark but it would be nice to draft a really solid young gun or trade in a big bodied accumulating mid.

Brisbane have been very lucky, got Dunkley for a steal and two 3 draft picks for free in the Ashcroft brothers after finishing 4th and 1st.

I know we were blessed with Ablett, Scarlett and Hawkins but they at least were after the club had poor years.

Would be good for us to get back on the f/s train and to get a free star midfielder in the next couple of years!
Also, while Scarlo and Ablett absolutely ended up guns they weren't projected to be what they became at time of draft

Indeed. I think the consensus at the time was that Scarlett may not have been drafted at all?
FYI: In 1997, we used our pick 13 to trade for Brett Spinks. Wow.

That turned out about as beneficial as engaging in an online argument with someone you have never met about who has the better moral compass.

I’m pretty confident we’ll beat the Pies and Blues at the ‘G, like we did last year (yes I’m aware the Blues beat us also), but we must find one win out of the Crows and Hawks matches, on exposed form it looks unlikely, but if we do we’ll be ok, the second half of our season looks pretty good tbh, can’t complain at getting the Dons and Tigers twice from Round 14 onwards…On the actual performance tonight, my biggest frustration was with Neale & Henry, not competitive enough in the air & they need to learn to be able to get it to ground.
After seeing how the Pies use the center corridor and the pressure their midfield puts on, along with having a brick of a human for a ruck which seems to be SDKs kryptonite, I am absolutely not confident about beating the Pies at the G. The Blues game comes down to Curnow getting back to fitness but thats weeks away.

I said it in preseason, our inability to stop teams getting a run on was bad, against Freo the signs were there, and now we have been embarrassed two weeks in a row by the Saints and Brisbane.

While we continue to not find a way to let teams get momentum and scoring runs of 5+ goals, we are in for a long season. Already getting 2023 vibes.

Hell I remember when he was in the VFL and playing small forward in the AFL there were people saying its a good thing we didn't have to waste a better pick on Ablett. There was no way to predict he would become the best modern day midfielder based on his early output.

Sure he showed potential, but not GOAT conversation potential.

I describe it to people as Cody Weightman turning into a generational mid

Has everyone calmed down from last night ? Our two losses haven’t been big ones they just sting a bit more because they could had been won

The team will only get better and it’s a long year I’m sure they’ll be fine over the next month

I may never calm down again

Got a link? Couldn't find it

SDK isn’t working. Unsure if he’s scared or there’s something in his mind going on, but the spilled marks that are uncontested is alarming.
I disagree with this, in so far as that he is working as well as any other ruck option we have at the moment.

It may not have shown on screen, but Brisbane copped a heap of rain over the previous 48 hours and now feels like a sauna.

He's still doing a fair bit around the ground, and is better than Stanley looked almost all of last year.

I'm calm.

Not throwing out the baby with the bathwater.

Prelim 2.0 and the lapses are costing us the points. All three games where we have given up significant patches of uncontested marks to the oppo has hurt us. I think the back 6 /7 held up unbelievably well considering how often the ball was there in the second half. Halting momentum is tough but I think it comes down to us just simply not halving enough contests particularly aerial ones that we lose badly or stuff up and teams relaunch. The last couple of seasons this had been an issue and with the amount of younger players atm it seems to happen regularly. Once the quarter breaks comes along and we can rally the troops we reset.

Mullin was great attacked and defended really well. Hopefully a good platform for him to go with. COS, Holmes and Zuth were really good too and Paddy led from the front. Our forward line has been very erratic thus far so hopefully they can get going.

With one big exception: that we should have won last year's prelim on the balance of the game, and last night we were lucky it was as close as it was.
Disagree- we headed the Lions late in the prelim, and they were strong enough to rally and get 2 late goals, at the G, against our little momentum, and they well deserved the win.
Plus we were damaged goods by the end of that game, while they were just peaking.

Both sides deserved the win in that game, in a sense. I'm just talking about the opportunities we had to win it vs the ones that they did - if you play that game 10 times over, IMO we win seven or eight.

That said, I think our win against Port in the QF may have made us look better than we were.

Ohhhh that one. Yeah that one was getting out of control. Many a foamed mouth

Just an observation of mine.
Our strengths in the previous 4-5-6 years has been our half forwards.
Stengle Close Miers and of late Dempsey being damaging both in defending and in attacking modes.
Opposition clubs are now putting more time and effort into them.
Once u quell Miers and let’s say Stengle our struggles become more glaring ImO. Especially Miers as his influence is off the charts when he is on and has time and space.
I see they the opposition have put in a bit of effort into Ollie Dempsey lately.
Gonna be interesting how we adapt and change to the special attention opposing teams are giving them.
As for my special whipping boy in Ollie Henry.
A young man with an abundance of athleticism, talent and that polarising word potential.
At almost 23 years old and 70 odd games under his belt he's become my most frustrating player to watch.
How he keeps getting a game has got me fookd.
No wonder we went after Jack Martin and the young fella from SA in the draft.
Well.... hopefully adding Mannagh into the mix with maybe a sprinkling of Wiltshire things might turnaround.
Cheers & Go Catters!!

We are missing Mannagh. I just hope he's not underdone
