Can't see that happening.

They'll win most of their home games, and be good enough to beat the shit teams away
Yep, their midfield is too good not to make the 8.

Can’t recall, did they lose anyone? And they seem to be pretty healthy.

Sure they had a shocker GF, but they were the top team all year. There’s no way I’d have Melbourne ahead of them for starters.

I could be wrong but it shows why these gurus who give their opinions you have to take with a grain of salt, otherwise they’d all be getting it right every year, it’s just an opinion and half of them are just past greats but with idiot opinions.

King in particular is so infatuated with stats that he'll try to find one that means "they can't make the 8 based on that".

As far as I'm aware they didn't lose anyone of note, though their tall forwards are a worry and they've gotta find a way to stop getting pulled apart on the bigger grounds.

For them to miss the 8 would take a pretty big injury crisis IMO.

Wow, no Sydney in the top 8

Can understand it.

Sydney got flogged in the 2022 grand final. Finished 8th in 2023.
Bulldogs got flogged in the 2021 grand final. Finished 8th in 2022.
GWS got flogged in the 2019 grand final. Finished 10th in 2020
Crows got flogged in the 2017 grand final. Finished 12th in 2018.

Tough to mentally come back from a flogging on Grand Final Day. Sydney have had two grand finals defeats of 60+ in the past 3 seasons.

Great list, but think its gonna be a tough season.

I love the confidence of you all but I don't see how we make finals, the competition is incredibly even.

I don't see how we finish higher than 10th, sure we might compete well with top 8 sides but I'm not sure this team actually knows how to "win" yet, I feel like we have a long way to go mentally and if we don't start the season well it'll be a carbon copy of last year.

The group from about 4th to 13th can finish in any permutation and it won't be surprising. It's really close and a couple of unexpected wins against the exact right clubs could be the difference between finishing at the top of the group instead of near the bottom.

So since 2017, 75% of teams that got flogged in the GF made the 8 the following year. And the only miss was us after the camp and the 'down tools' game in Alice Springs.

Yup. 1 missed. 3 of the 4 scraped in. Can understand predicting the slide.

They finished top 2 after home and away, dropping is on the cards, but all the way out of the 8 is highly unlikely. They're too hard to beat at home and will be good enough away to beat the mid/lower sides. They're the side least likely to drop out IMO.

They were a Ben Keays bad umpiring decision away from missing the finals in 2023. Now they have the mental scars of two blow out grand finals.

I don't think anyone had Collingwood dropping out of the 8 after winning the flag in 2023 either.

Rule of thumb is generally 3 out - 3 in.

I made an error. Tubbs corrected me. It's 50% of flogged teams miss the finals the next year in recent times.

Whats even crazier is that 3 of the past 4 premiership winners failed to make the finals (Richmond 2020, Geelong 2022, Collingwood 2023).

And Dees who did make it in 2022 went in straight sets so it’s not like they did much better either.

It’s bloody hard to win one in the modern era, it’s ridiculously hard to go back to back.
Wouldn’t be surprised at all to see a Lions fallback this year even with Levi Ashcroft inclusion.

The loss of Joe Daniher will be felt big time.

If we miss finals this year we will move to outright fourth on the list of: most consecutive years missing finals after losing a grand final

Sydney - 24
Richmond - 12
Western Bulldogs - 12
Adelaide - 7 (current)
Hawthorn - 7
Fitzroy - 6
Collingwood - 5
Port Adelaide - 5
Brisbane - 4
Carlton - 4
Essendon - 3
Geelong - 3
North Melbourne - 3
St Kilda - 2
GWS - 1
Melbourne - 1
West Coast - never
Fremantle - never

Sydney, then South Melbourne's streak of losing the 1945 grand final to Carlton (by 5 goals) after finishing 1st on the H&A ladder and then failing to make finals for 24 consecutive seasons until 1970 is quite remarkable

We currently have the longest streak by a mile too

Hawthorn's 7 was missing finals between 1964 and 1970 after losing the 1963 grand final
Western Bulldogs' 12 was missing 1962-1973 after losing 1961
Richmond's 12 was missing 1983-1994 after losing 1982
Fitzroy's streak was in the 1900s
Collingwood in the 1940s, then the next worst Port after their smashing at the hands of Geelong

It's interesting that the main board's ladder prediction thread has crows from 10th to 14th in most people's posts.
I like the idea of being outsider's to make the 8 hopefully the other teams will underestimate us Crow's well.

They are expecting us to improve! We have finished 14th or lower in 4 of Nicksy's 5 years.

I always knew our current list was Top 4 material

If we want to play finals we have to at the very least beat Essendon at the G, Gold Coast at people's choice and Collingwood at the G, Melbourne at home and at least one showdown.

Without those specific wins I don't see how we make it, as it seems like 8th spot will come down who beats those around them.

No wonder Wayne is feeling so confident about this season...

also said Rankine could end up as best player in the competition by the end of the year (similar to his 'top 3' from mid last year). Love Izak but still think most of us would take JHF in a straight swap if we could. JHF = Buckley/Dangerfield (top 3 player in competition for best part of a decade IMO)

Gotta say he has pretty well nailed alot of this top 8 - except no Sydney!!

I expect Power and Dogs to be definitely out. Last team to miss either Cats or possibly Blues. Blues have so much talent but injuries are a concern and still think they will probably make it.

Freo, Crows and I reckon GC to come in. Pies and Dees to miss

Top 4

Fremantle
GWS
Hawthorn
Geelong

The next 4

Brisbane
Collingwood
Adelaide
Gold Coast/Melbourne

“I have left out Port Adelaide, Carlton and the Dogs given their injury woes.”
