in my experience watching this rebuild which started all the way back in 2012.... its never that easy. the steele one is a great example of that.
I get Stocker confused with Steele, Stocker has tatts and looks a bit heavier. If he can loose a few kgs he looks every bit as capable as Steele at the same age.
Windy and Owens are heading into 4th season, this is where the rubber hits the road with emergence of great players rather than GOFs. We have seen more than glimpses as to both their capabilities, they will only get better from here. Watch Owens. He flies for a mark, either holds his feet or is first up from the deck. Just got to figure where he is best suited. Windy injuries cruel him, he just needs a solid run and watch out.
Wilson may suffer 2nd year blues but doubt it, as running ability is not an issue. Pou well that's just bad luck.

Dow I find just a tad underwhelming but have not had a real chance to look at him over a period of time.

Seems like Hall was just another of many of a similar type at Horfs just last in queue based on unexposed form. So who knows the upside, conceivably be a Steele type sleeper.

We always look better when Clark plays and win or are more competitive in more games when he play and IMHO is well ahead of Jones.

Tarau or even Trav could take over Masons role in a few years, maybe Wilson, even Owens. Who knows.

We have heeps of flexibility this year, but missing some key tall timber. RTB made a make shift forward line take us to finals...we have King back. Maybe we can do the same with the backline which had been our one constant over 2 years.

Let year showed that a makeshift mid group does not cut the mustard, so if we hold that together who knows. Slow the ball coming into our defence reduce the one on ones and maybe we do better than we think.

Hopefully Barrat is the same as Goose Maguire and has a stellar first year as a tall back.

All will be revealed in 40 odd days and and a year of craziness starts again.

Maguire was outstanding early. Absolute man child. Barrat looks to have a similar physique.

I think we are a much better run footy department now at least. Although I'm looking forward to Lenny Hoffman being a star that we didn't take so I can still have a god old fashioned whinge. Geelong fans are jizzing themselves over him.

"At Stockers age" , Steele had just come off a shortened season with 417 disposals, half of them contested possessions, and he was named Co-captain for the following season.
When you say he "looks as capable" are you saying he looks like he should be physically capable?
Because no way he gets the ball like 24 year old Jack Steele.

Stocker does not win contested ball.
Stocker does not win clearances.
That's why he's playing in the backline.

Max Hall wasn't in the Queue at Hawthorn, he was a member of their VFL team, they had no more dibs on him than any other team.

His highlight reel prior to the draft was quite jizzworthy so there’s a fair chance he’ll turn out okay.

Having watched the reel I was really looking forward to welcoming him to the Saints. But having said that, I wouldn’t take him in front of any kid we did actually draft.

And fortunately we left a spot open to allow us to grab Boyd considering the Marshall situation.

Just one of those things where you can’t have everything.

If he turns out to be a superstar I don’t think it necessarily means we stuffed up.

How do we match up folks?

FB: Worrell ~ Murray ~ Michalanney

R: O'Brien ~ Rankine ~ Peatling
HF: Rachele ~ Fogarty ~ Neale-Bullen
FF: Keays ~ Thilthorpe ~ Walker

Five and a half weeks to D-Day!

Never a great idea to compare and full time mid to a half back - every statistic will be out of whack

I see BigMonty 's point, they are a similar build and both go in hard for the ball - Stocker has never been exposed as full time mid so we don't know what he could be capable of. If he wasn't used last year with all our injury issues, i can't see him anywhere near it this year.

He's one of the lowest accumulators of all our backs. Less possession than Webster.

All of them except Macrae have at least 3 years left (touch wood)

I am already convinced that:

Pou replaces Macrae
Wilson replaces Hill

That leaves Marshall, Steele and Wood who we seem to have plans for successors already but there's still plenty of time to replace them if they don't work out:

Dodson for Marshall (very uncertain but rucks, as seen in recent premiership teams, can be easily replaced with cheap players from other teams)
Windhager/Travaglia/Garcia/Boxshall/Carroll/Stocker for Steele (surely one of them is a win)
Byrnes/Windhager for Wood (this one is tougher because Wood is such a unique athlete but wingers are usually easier to mould as long as a player has aerobic ability)

Then there's guys like Clark, Dow, Hastie, Hall who could also be a part of that long-term midfield

As for KPPs; Tauru, Barrat, Caminiti, Sharman, King should be the future. All we need for that group is probably Keeler to assert himself as a ruck/fwd then a genuine monster full back (eyes on Cody Curtin at this year's draft)
I wouldn’t discount McRae..very durable

No full training report today, met up with a friend from Perth. We hadn't been to Moorabbin together since 1991.
And no it wasn't Dard Ball Get , I am talking about a real person, not some AI generated shit posting bot.

I reckon the way he's been played is as a nearly pure stopper where he sits on a smaller forward and doesn't let them get off the chain. Probably a link up forward. Ross Lyon will give some players selfless roles that drive fans nuts but he rates highly.
