I don't think I would care so much if McAsey actually became a high level key defender prospect.
Moral of the story is if you're going to use a first Rounder on one you'd better be 100 percent sure they become a good one.

There's a few things that have come out to suggest Haggis should have been more wary and been more conservative.

I’ve looked back at my posting history at the time - I was happy to take a shopping list of others (some of which are also busts) before going McAsey. To my eye he never had much pre-draft of anything for us to be excited about. For first round picks you want to at least look at their highlights and have a wow moment or two where you think the player might have some point of difference.

Once he was selected I was then supportive of wanting him to succeed.

I do believe Premiership teams need a great DEF ....I believe that zone is of greater need

If you look at the list: Nank, Taylor, Shoenberg, and Berry developing in the SANFL ....I don't believe we're in a pickle in the MIDS

I do agree there is some untapped midfield potential in the squad and that needs to be explored. In particular Berry and Taylor.

The point though is, if we have almost a million to lure a player, we could get a pretty good mid for that.

If one of the guys already on the list gets shunted back in the queue/leaves because they are behind a million dollar mid, not the worst problem.

Average salary goes from $406k to $480-500k

Need to keep these figures in mind when reading the numbers that are thrown around in the press

V/Good player. Too much in what he offers. $800k about right. Redmond $700-800k about right to get him. When you start paying too much for recruits it starts getting players restless and chasing money elsewhere.

Now you’ve acknowledged that $900k is really like $700k previously because of the CBA, but you’ve used us not giving Lever $700k as reason why we shouldn’t give it to Redman, 6 years later.

And to cap it off you said we should spend that money on a mid, I asked you which mids were available. Now you’re asking the same question.
