Hawthorn won by a goal, but Dunstall's premature comeback may have cost him a goalkicking record even though he had more bad matches in 1996 than in most previous years - whereas Lockett was allowing for the adverse conditions a better player than ever in 1996. The way Hawthorn collapsed in late 1997 and early 1998 - winning only three of 25 games between Round 15 of the former year and Round 17 of the latter for a success rate worse than in their embarassing first 29 years as a League club - suggests that they took a long time to recover from his loss and that of Nick Holland, Platten and Langford!long story short, my favourite match of all time is R01 1997...against the Saints and I can't remember if we won or lost...probably not, but I don't care!
