2 GOALS TO JACK IN DREAMTIME IN THE NT TO CLOSE THE GAP TO JUST OVER 100 GOALS TO THE ABLETTS.....

0. 1,519 GOALS - Gary Ablett Snr. (1,031 Goals), Gary Ablett Jnr. (442 Goals), Nathan Ablett (46 Goals) - STILL ACTIVE.

1. 1,473 GOALS - Gary Ablett Snr. (1,031 Goals) & Gary Ablett Jnr. (442 Goals) - STILL ACTIVE
2. 1,369 GOALS - Nick Riewoldt (718 Goals) & Jack Riewoldt (651 Goals) - STILL ACTIVE

3. 1,361 GOALS - Gordon Coventry (1,299 Goals) & Syd Coventry (62 Goals).
4. 1,360 GOALS - Tony Lockett (1,360 Goals) & Non-Existent VFL/AFL Brother, Father, Son or Cousin.
5. 1,254 GOALS - Jason Dunstall (1,254 Goals) & Non-Existent VFL/AFL Brother, Father, Son or Cousin.
6. 1,206 GOALS - Peter Hudson (727 Goals) & Paul Hudson (479 Goals).
7. 1,163 GOALS - Saverio Rocca (748 Goals) & Anthony Rocca (415 Goals).
8. 1,084 GOALS - Leigh Matthews (915 Goals) & Kelvin Matthews (169 Goals).
9. 1,057 GOALS - Doug Wade (1,057 Goals) & Non-Existent VFL/AFL Brother, Father, Son or Cousin.
10. 970 GOALS - Jack Titus (970 Goals) & Non-Existent VFL/AFL Brother, Father,Son or Cousin.

The Riewoldts are 104 Goals behind the Ablett Father-Son, 150 Goals behind the immediate family of the currently playing Gary Ablett and 131 short of being the first Family duo to hit 1,500 Goals between them which is still a small, small, chance, to go to the Gary Abletts (27 goals required) in Season 2020.

Can Gary Ablett Jnr. catch the the other 'Son' with 400 Goals Paul Hudson on 479 Goals? Ablett Jnr. is now 37 goals behind Paul Hudson...... It would seem GA Jnr. would only have a chance of overhauling Paul Hudson by playing on into 2021..... Will he?!? Apparently not.....

Ablett needs 27 more goals in 2020 for the father-son Gary Abletts to hit 1,500 Goals between them - which would be the first family duo to do so ever......
Gary Ablett Jnr. needs 38 more goals to become the father-son with the most goals for a Father who kicked at least 400 Goals......
And Gary Ablett needs 58 goals to himself kick at least 500 goals - a task that would require at least 2 more years that would seem unlikely given he surely won't be playing in Season 2021......

Is Season 2020 Ablett's last season...... Or can he play on into 2021 given the weird way 2020 has played out... Surely Gary can play on into 2021.....

Jack needs to kick another 100+ goals, and to do that, I'd say he has to play at least another 3 seasons. Given his injury woes and up and down form, I'd say that seems unlikely.

Stranger things have happened though...

P.S. Ablett will deffs retire at the end of this season, given the issues with his son

Yes I tend to agree, he obviously wouldn't want to play on in 2021 if it was to be a similar season to 2020. If the Cats win the GF he will obviously retire as well.

I wonder if Jack wouldn't want to end up with more goals than his cousin - I could see that being a goal and that might dictate how many years he would play on for...

I reckon Jack's been reading this. The Jack Riewoldt i watched jumping around like a 19 y/o against Geelong seemed a long way from the crotchety looking bloke he's been for the last couple of years...then again he has sustained a few injuries in that time and perhaps had played some of these under duress.

But given his recent lively form i'd say he has a couple of seasons at least in him left, and he's likely to overtake the Abletts, although the GOAT quinella will still be a father-son record-holder for a long time i'd suggest.

I guess too, the way Richmond play Jack doesn't even need to do much at all with the plethora of small forward scoring options that exist, so he could play a fair while longer...it's really only if he stays fit and motivated. Most of Richmond's players are youngish, aside from Houli and Jack, and they are only 31-32 tops anyway.

Could be - this week could be Garu's last game unless they can convince him 1 more year is worth it given he'd get a Victorian send-off in 2021!

Still in a quandary as to why you cite Nathan Ablett as the supplementary Addendum, when Gary Senior's older Brother Geoff, kicked 153 goals at the level.....Very odd inclusion/exclusion indeed.

I guess Sr, Jr and Nathan are all the one family as direct relations, but it is a reasonable point to make. Kevin Ablett would have kicked a few too i guess in his shortish career.

Jack's been weird this season, in some games almost an afterthought but in the Geelong game it was like he was 8 years younger, flying like a dynamo and kicking from 50+. Reckon he has a couple of years left at least.

Yes, that is the original reason. They are the same family unit.

A different discussion is bringing in all relatives which would bring in other football families.

I really do this for myself, and part of the reason for bringing in Nathan Ablett is because when I started this I was curious as to whether the "Riewoldts" could overtake the (immediate) Ablett Family.

I think that's still possible - if you slot in Geoff instead of Nathan - I don't think Jack can drag the family past that 3.

It was really only because 2 Active Players were "in competition" in some way that I started this and keep it updated.

Yep, I would be happy for someone to do all the "direct relations" Family Tree Goals scored, it just won't be me as I don't find it as interesting at this point in time. Too dispersed and diverse.

You have to bring in the Tucks as well in that discussion.

That would be a huge task considering how many Aboriginal players seem to be related to each other

2 GOALS FOR JACK & NONE FOR GAZZA IN HIS FINAL GAME...

THE ONLY QUESTION NOW IS WHETHER JACK CAN CARRY THE RIEWOLDTS PAST THE ABLETTS IN SEASONS 2021-22......

0. 1,522 GOALS - Gary Ablett Snr. (1,031 Goals), Gary Ablett Jnr. (445 Goals), Nathan Ablett (46 Goals).

2. 1,382 GOALS - Nick Riewoldt (718 Goals) & Jack Riewoldt (664 Goals) - STILL ACTIVE

3. 1,361 GOALS - Gordon Coventry (1,299 Goals) & Syd Coventry (62 Goals).
4. 1,360 GOALS - Tony Lockett (1,360 Goals) & Non-Existent VFL/AFL Brother, Father, Son or Cousin.

GOALS FOR JACK RIEWOLDT IN SEASONS 2021-22

18 GOALS
- Only the Second Family Duo to kick 1,400 GOALS behind the "Gary Abletts". (Season 2021)
36 GOALS
- 700 GOALS for Jack Riewoldt - likely only the 24th or 25th player to do so in VFL/AFL History (Season 2021)
55 GOALS -
To overtake cousin Nick on the All-Time VFL/AFL Goals Ladder. Nick is currently in 21st place (Season 2022)
95 GOALS -
To overtake the "Gary Abletts" as the most prolific Related Duo in VFL/AFL History (Season 2022?)
118 GOALS
- To become the first Related Duo in VFL/AFL History to kick 1,500 GOALS (Season 2023?)
141 GOALS -
To overtake the entire immediate family of his great rival Gary Ablett Jnr. (Might be a stretch, but irrelevant to the contest.....)

Kinda sad the Abletts are done now. I doubt Jack will play on next year as well, age has finaly robbed him of his consistency, I think he wants 300 games 700 goals and out.

It seems odd to focus on Abletts being the one unit but then allowing Jack and Nick. Brothers trumps cousins.

I kinda presume he would want 719 Goals... which won't be enough to overtake the "Gary Abletts" though. So maybe 2 more years for Jack.
