"The NRL makes their much anticipated decision on who to award their 18th license too. In a shocking turn of events heavy favourites Papua New Guinea and second favourites Perth are denied the 18th team. Astonishingly, the team is awarded to Adelaide and the Adelaide Rams are subsequently reborn. Furious at the decision the Federal Government desperately urge the AFL to place their 20th team in PNG to curb Chinese influence in the region, as which was the plan with the NRL team. With the promise that the Federal Government will fund 100% of the team the AFL oblige and controversally decide to award their 20th team to PNG over the much preffered options of Canberra, Norwood and a third Perth team. In a bid to market the club to the Australian audience a fan vote is held to decide on the name and the colours. The most popular option is the Papua New Guniea Bandcioots who will wear orange and blue."

"It's 2032 and the AFL is salivating at the expected further international expansion of their league. With recent success in St Kilda's relocation to New Zealand, PNG were extended an invitation to the AFL for a spot in their league. PNG are no stranger to a Sherrin as their footy history goes as far back as the 1920's and in the current century, an International cup to their name.
The Papua New Guinea Stingers were born and joined the competition in 2032. Sporting the traditional PNG flag colours and the stinger name as an homage to the winning team in 2008 whose moniker were the Mosquitos. And in addition, one of PNG's native flora is the "Pipturus argenteus" which is known as the "False Stinger"."

"After the NRL decided to neglect the Rugby heartland in Papua New Guinea, the AFL decided that the former Australian colony was the perfect place for the 20th AFL License. There was a twist, the team was not solely based in Port Moresby and would play 8 of its 11 home games in Darwin, Alice Springs, and the Kimberley, whilst also playing away games against St Kilda, the Gold Coast, and Melbourne in NT and FNQ stadiums. The team would also honour its role in the Second World War by playing Against Carlton on ANZAC day, in an alternating timeslot with the traditional Collingwood, Essendon matchup. The team would also take the nickname used by the former NT NEAFL team and the colours featured on both the Aboriginal and Papua New Guinea flags, and thus wearing the Tropics Thunder were born (the name was decided to be catchy for new fans of the sport). The Thunder wear two guernseys inspired by the Papua New Guinea Rugby League and Rugby Sevens teams, as they were thought to bring more pride to the team."
