Last 5 – Box Hill 3 Sandringham 1 Draw 1
Last Time They Met – Round 6, 2015: Sandringham 11. 12. 78 DEF BY Box Hill 14. 17. 101
Sandringham battle Box Hill on Saturday afternoon at North Port Oval for a spot in VFL Grand Final.
Both teams have taken different routes to make the preliminary final. Box Hill earned a week off when they defeated Footscray in their qualifying final, while the Zebras beat Collingwood in their semi-final after going down to Williamstown in the first week.
Sandringham defeated Collingwood last week in spectacular fashion, winning a final quarter arm wrestle by seven points. It was an even contest all afternoon, with scores all tied at three quarter time. However, a big term from Mitch Brown proved the difference as the Zebras put themselves a game away from the Grand Final.
Clint Jones starred with 44 disposals, while Trent Dennis-Lane booted five goals and Brown took seven final quarter marks to finish with three majors.
In selection news, the Zebras selection panel have the luxury of no forced changes and are likely to head into Saturday with no changes. Luke Verma, Yllber Zijai, Peter Shakallis and Blaine Coates come in to make a squad of 27.
Recent encounters between these two have been tight, with Box Hill winning three of the last five games.
The most recent contest was in round 6, where the Hawks ran out 23-point victors. Minus a second term domination from Box Hill, it was tight all afternoon as three of the four quarters were decided by single digits.
Clint Jones was a ball magnet that day, amassing 45 disposals. Paddy McCartin took eight marks and booted three goals.
Box Hill come into this game as reigning minor premiers, having defeated Footscray by a comfortable 40 points in their qualifying final. After a slow start, the Hawks booted six goals to one in the second quarter to wrestle control of the game and kick away.
Jonathan Simpkin was prolific with 38 disposals and a goal, while Dallas Willsmore kicked five goals.
The game will be broadcast live on Channel 7 from 2:30, with regular updates on Sandringham’s Twitter (@sandyzebs) and Facebook account.
