Autopsy The started-before-half-time All Time Insipid #norfball performance v. the team down the highway who shall not be named

Actually I think Sonja has been great, she is not the one making decisions about who we recruit, who plays, etc. It is the so called experts over the years in charge of recruiting, drafting who should take the blame. Look at the size of our players compared to any other team in the comp (and yes including West Coast and Hawthorn).

but she oversees the recruitment of those 'experts'.....

Not sure what you’re getting at?

Im pro Clarkson but he’s not immune to criticism either.

And I couldn’t stand Noble and was one of his biggest detractors on here.

The Gold Coast game was absolutely a bruise free, low intensity game.

They absolutely smash us every time we play them. We had lost 20 in a row going into that and we didn’t just suddenly turn into a good side.

my point is you've counted wins under noble and shaw, but discounted all of the wins under clarkson. i'm sure if we look back at the shaw and noble wins you could make a case as to why we won and why they should be discounted, but that would go against your bias.

even there you're not counting the gcs game because we have to 'suddenly turn into a good side'...to beat gcs....in hobart...? huh?

it's a win, just like the other 2 under clarkson.

Was in the most since the Freo game this week, but clearly 2nd rotation and mostly due to McKercher going down

it's still no where near as when he won the b'n'f, thought we'd be putting him there to make up for the experience lost with tarryn.

putting context to it. I have no bias considering I'm pro clarkson.

Been seeing that shite from the bleachers and on TV from the Freo game till yesterday - it has nothing to do with talent just basic awareness of where your man is and lack of defensive accountability - the sort of mentality of "Yeah, he's got him" whilst jogging off.
Even question for example, why Biggie was sucked up so far up the contest that he allowed Cameron 10-15m head start back to his forward line where he eventuially kicked the goal. Was Biggie thinking he could provide forward pressure because he was confident that someone behind him would pick up Cameron?
I think Clarko needs to put North Ball in the bin and implement North Wall...at this point I could not care less if we scored 4 goals for the game but if we restrict the oppo 5-8 goals than that is a win and better than getting pantsed!
Once this team starts to demonstrate some semblance of team defence then work on the attacking should be piss easy.

Yeah nah the situation with TT was untenable and you are oversimplifying it.
Agreed. Dont blame the NMFC for what happened to TT.

Blame TT.

He was happy to take the weekly pay. Hell, he even bragged on social media about how much he was earning.

But when it came to EARNING his pay and giving back to the NMFC, like so many great players have done before him.

IT WAS ALL TOO HARD. In fact he would rather play tough guy and threaten women on his mobile phone.

We can do with his skill and dedication now. But lets be honest, he cared zero for the jumper he wore for 60 odd games.

I hope he fails.

It is galling to think that we had both JHF and Reid and lost both in fairly bizarre circumstances. Hopefully, Sheezel, Wardlaw and Duursma prove to be better in the long run. However, both JHF and Reid have the physiques we’s been dreaming of. Already, they look like monsters next to our young string beans.
We lost one of them after he was offered a s**t-ton of money to go back to his hometown, and the other by winning a game of football.

Not sure either of those are particularly bizarre circumstances.

EDIT: Actually, us winning a game of football was quite bizarre, I see where you're coming from now...

Our issues could be solved by one change from half time in round one. ******* man up. It’s that *ingg simple.
It’s one thing I’ve always found funny.

During the year, teams play all manner of zones, set ups, structures, yet come finals time it’s a one on one contested slug test with a premium on beating your man.

I'm all in. It sucks, its frustrating, I'm in a glass case of emotion during games. But I'm trusting the process.
I'm sure the Dogs/Dees/Blues/Tigers fans all felt exactly what we're feeling right now. They all felt hopeless for 20 years.
But I'm going to games and I'll keep watching because the foundations are starting to come together.
For me it's the signs from the young guys like Comben, Drury, Biggie, Sheezel, Curtis, Ford and Powell.
And watching Wardlaw, Colby and Duurs grow with each game. Just gotta keep pumping games into them.
I'm looking forward to seeing Harvey/Archer/Bergman/Hardemann/B George/W Dawson/RHJ/Goad types who could get a look in for some games very soon. We just have a senior core that are performing poorly and provide no leadership.
Our skills, pressure and positioning defensively need a lot of work but let's see what we look like come year end.
I think Logue might be able to provide some of that vocal voice down back in the 2nd half of the year.
Watch the baby joeys grow!!! And show up for Larkey. 100 games. Get around him.

King highlights our skills

Our ball handling is F grade by hand and foot

Disgraceful
Until we stop turning unpressured possession into direct turnover, were absolutely cooked.

We’d lead the league in kicks under 25m resulting in direct turnover.

It’s astonishing that guys getting 500k a year can be so s**t at the basic fundamentals of their job.

I can remember in 2011 thinking the same

If our Captains want to show true shinboner leadership this week, it would be to drop both themselves to the Magoos. It would be the most powerful statement they could make to the group and show they actually care about the club. A young list like ours more than ever needs senior leaders who can also play half decent football and inspire their team mates. They could also take the midfield Coach (Patch Adam’s) with them so he can hone his midfield coaching skills as well. We should promote Blind Freddy to replace him, as I’m sure he would do a better job.
Agree on Patch. The midfield has been a hecking shitshow this season.

I'm not even sure the mids know where to position themselves and each other before the bounce.

I think we should make a play for Mark Williams at Richmond as an assistant coach. From all accounts a brilliant kicking skills coach, and knows about climbing the mountain and tasting success at both Port and Melb. If there is a specialist piece of coaching we need atm, it’s foot skills.

I’m going every week and will never stop supporting because as a teenager I was spoilt. I saw this club make 7 preliminary finals in a row. Was there for 3 grand finals and 2 flags. If I can sit through all that and everything this club has given me then I can sit through this debacle.

I was 13 at the 96 grand final, my mum could only get 1 ticket and sent me by myself. I was so happy we won but felt like it was always going to happen after the previous few years

As I was walking out of the ground I saw a bloke about 50 years old bawling his eyes out, he caught me staring obviously. He looked at me asked how old I was and said “mate one day you will understand, I’ve waited so long for this and seen us lose so much”

I’d like to be that bloke at some stage in the next 10 years because my God have I seen this club lose so much

I get it. I just watched on tv. I thought how good is this we just play finals, make prelims and grand finals, how easy is this lol.
I would've been around 10-15 years old at the time and had no idea how hard they were to make, let alone win.
I never really understood how the 90's team was built from the u19's kids at the time. Next time, if we're lucky enough, I'll actually comprehend how hard it is and how the team was built to put us in a position to contend.

There’s a question I’d like to ask the players individually.

‘Do you hate losing more than you like winning?’

Because for most of them, the answer is no.

Credit to Rick for the visual which explains it far clearer.
There's an even worse version than this play, when Greenwood was rucking, facing the other way. The 'owned' space was the same, prime culprit was Wardlaw from memory who didn't position defensively in in obvious weak spot. Led to an easy and predictable tap to advantage, easy I50 and a set shot at goal.

If we can see it before the bounce what are they watching?

Have you ever sat on the boundary line and watched play? It is very different from the angles we get above.

But yeh, they are paid professionals coached by paid professionals so you’d expect more.

But then Greenwood in the ruck says it all

I'd expect the answer to be "what's this winning you talk of?....some kind of sorcery?"
