Discussion Strange or Interesting AFL Photos

Just noticed that the official AFL Photos website has finally been updated after more than a decade with the same UI!

And only one watermark on the photos! Will make sourcing photos for some of my jumper design swaps a whole lot easier that’s for sure.

They're in s**t resolution though; can't view full-size images anymore by the looks of things – the AFL giveth, the AFL taketh away.

Right now it's actually better to right-click and open image in new tab from the search results page. You'll get a 657px wide pic (for landscapes) with zero watermarks, as opposed to going through the individual image page itself and getting a 600px wide pic with one watermark smack bang in the middle.

Saw this pic of Brodie Holland wearing a signed 2003 Grand final jumper last week.

The swans reserves team known as the “North West Sydney Redbacks” competing in the AFL Sydney comp in 2001, playing in swans training jumpers.

After the AFL reserves comp finished at the end of 99, the Swans fielded the Redbacks in the local Sydney comp in 2000 but were so dominate that half way through the season, the league introduced a rule where the opposition could field an extra player on the field lol. The team withdrew before finals because of the lack of competition.

The next year Sydney started the Port Melbourne VFL affiliation and majority of their reserves players were sent to melbourne, they kept the Redbacks in the Sydney Comp as more of a development side for 01 & 02.

Pennant Hills and a fleeting joint venture of Campbelltown/Penrith in opposition here

While I’m on the AFL Sydney 2001 comp..cane across this footy record, looks like North Shore Bombers got a set of Essendon jumpers sent to them and put the AFL NSW/ACT patch over them.
