Some good news. Wind forecast for tomorrow and Sunday now 10-15kn from the Southeast. Not as strong as today but not as fickle as predicted earlier.

Saturday looks diabolical but our main hopes aren’t racing then.

Light and shifty might be an opportunity for Waterhouse and Darmanin i'm hoping.. They haven't performed in the breeze.

SOMETHING'S HAPPENED TO KONTIDES. HE'S GONE OFF THE COURSE!

Wearn now in VERY strong position for Gold.

Update on this post.

There are certain things you're not allowed to do in sailing that make your boat go faster.

"Pumping" (hauling in and releasing) your sail repeatedly whilst sailing downwind is one.

Using sudden body movements (ooching) to help catch a wave is another.

In race 1, Kontides got caught pumping and was required to do a 720 degree turn (2 circles) before continuing.

In Race 7, he got caught pumping again and as it was his second offence, he was required to retire from the race.

A good analogy here is ball tampering in cricket. Everyone does it, shining the ball using saliva etc, but it comes down to degrees.

Given umpires are all over the place in these events, Kontides is either bloody stiff, or bloody dumb. Hopefully we'll get some footage.

Very new to sailing to appreciate all the explanations.

I LOVE that the penalty is essentially "spin around twice" and wish this was a thing in more events haha
