In hindsight AFLW over China would have been the right decision, but it's hard to blame the club for that. COVID really screwed us there. There was no way of predicting in 2017 that a once in generation pandemic was going to emanate from China.

And even if you did predict that, you couldn't have predicted that our government's response would be to make an enemy of China to the extent that basically no Australian businesses except resources can do business with China anymore.

Football wise - wont see another AFL game there for a long long time if ever again, but development and assistance stuff will restart someday down the track..

Business wise - still churning over. Club still has 2 people employed, one in Shanghai one here, dealing with businesses involved in trading between the 2 countries. Business contacts established haven't been lost.

AFLW start date confirmed, landmark pay deal locked in

Port Adelaide's inaugural AFLW campaign will commence on the last weekend of August.

A late-August start date and a significant pay increase for female footballers have been confirmed as part of a one-year bridging AFLW Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Season seven of the NAB AFLW competition will commence on the final weekend of August and will consist of 10 home-and-away rounds.

The season will end with a four-week finals series, including the Grand Final on the last weekend of November. An extra week of finals has been introduced and will feature a top eight, rather than a top six, per previous years.

• Sign and Trade Period 31 May 2022
• NAB AFLW Draft 29 June 2022 (Wednesday)

• Season Commences, 25-27 August 2022*
• Finals commences, 4-6 November 2022*
• NAB AFLW Grand Final, Weekend of 25-27 November 2022*
