News Peter Ladhams departs for Sydney

He'd clearly be best 22 for us.

Either way, the decision to spend 3 years developing him in our AFL side instead of Hayes only to ship him off to Sydney for basically nothing and retain Hayes who is still yet to play a game was just weird.

Scapegoat for the prelim loss? Put fear into the rest of the squad?

I'd love to have known the conversations behind closed doors. Whether it was Ken or Davies. Bad decision. We all knew this

I think some of the criticisms of Hinkley are overblown, but it reflects poorly on him either way. He shipped off a guy he played in finals and was first 22 for most of last year. Or Davies is able to tell Hinkley who is in the best 22. Just a terrible situation. hindsight is 20/20 but a few people mooted moving on Lycett for the Hayes/ Ladhams combo last year. He has had issues running out 4th 1/4s for at least 2 seasons, has been pulverised in the first 3 games this year (was surprisingly good against Melbourne), and now looks like he could be very close to the end. If he only plays 10-15 more games for us, 2-3 people better be taken out back and given the horse treatment. In a phase that is now clearly rebuilding we got rid of ruckman who has toweled up most of his opponents that are a similar age or younger in favour of a cooked journeyman.

Ladhams never toweled up any ruckman when playing for us, I wouldn't have traded him either but lets not dribble complete s**t.

He's beaten Sean Darcy and Tim English Soundly. The only Ruckman his age or younger that you would expect to do him in is Luke Jackson and he's not going to get traded for a flat can of coke like Ladhams was.

His value is also in his work up forward and his work around the ground. You can’t say he didn’t show a bit in that regard.. still only young for a ruckman too, best years are well ahead of him..

We had it set up so well, hayes to be the lead ruck when lycett retired, ladhams to be the mobile second ruck who was pretty handy as the third tall forward.. we were set for years… in a hard position to actually get set up in..

Which ever way you look at it, it was a shocking call to get rid of him.

He's a forward/part time ruck he'll never be a 1st rucks arsehole.

The thing in Ladhams favour now in terms of fulfilling his potential is being coached by Longmire & Dean Cox who'd know his plight inside out & were star talls as players, as opposed to loafing around here with Hinkley & Lobbe.

Ladhams takes his chance
Off-season recruit Peter Ladhams capitalised on Naitanui's absence with an impressive performance in the ruck in his second game in red and white. Ladhams has had to wait for an opportunity but came into the side in round four following Tom Hickey's knee injury. Coincidentally, on the same day Ladhams' former club Port Adelaide confirmed a three-month injury to first-choice ruckman Scott Lycett, the new Swan had 24 hit-outs along with 24 disposals, five clearances and even kicked an athletic second-quarter goal.

You would still need a good 1st ruck with Ladhams in the side but he's a versatile tall, looking like he was developing well.

The club had a 30 yo ruckman ahead of him, an untried ruck hopeful behind him ... but we traded him because we needed to trade in yet another halfback flanker with an elite kick that doesn't hit targets ... the Hinkley obsessive special.
