The people who think that we need to cut our losses with Erasmus and trade him will never fail to baffle me considering he plays at an elite level in the WAFL and never gets given a chance to play a full game at AFL level. Nevermind the fact that he is only 20 year olds, as far as I'm concerned objectively, you can't say how good a player is going to be at the age of 20, they haven't fully developed to make that sort of judgement, and considering Erasmus has never gotten a consistent run in the AFL side, that's further proof that you can't judge how good he will be in 5 years time.

Honestly feel we'd be im a better place right now if we never traded for JOM. Would've given Ras a proper go last year instead of relegating him to sub every week. I don't know how many more easy missed shots from JOM i can take.
Erasmus would likely be developing at Johnson levels if we just placed the trust in him that we have with Johnson, sure going for youth instead of experience might have changed a few results but it would have at least showed we were invested in the future of the club, guys like Erasmus, Johnson and Amiss, the three guys we picked up in the 2021 Draft should be playing every week regardless, we picked them all up with the idea of them being the future of the club and it's about time we started to treat Erasmus as such.

This is false. Erasmus has repeatedly demonstrated he is not AFL standard in the positions it is least cost for us to squeeze him in to give him experience: Wing and hhf. He is an onballer or bust. Johnson has at least been near adequate in them and is starting to deliver better the last few weeks.

We may yet start playing Ras again if we fall out of finals contention (or the ladder opens up in such a way that we can't fall out of the 8 but its clear we're not winning the flag) but unless there is an injury to an onballer, or two or three injuries to the outside mids / hhfs*, I don't think we can fit him in and so be it.

*If they bring him in next week to relace Freddy e.g. I think it's a good sign on their internal rating of him btw.

I just dont see how Ras can play in any position except Fyfes and even then I prefer Johnson in the role personally.
You don't want Johnson playing Fyfe's role. Johnson has a lot of weapons, he is the player you want to dish it out to after winning the clearance. Brodie should be the no. 1 replacement for Fyfe as it stands.

I’d say Johnson is more Mundy than
Fyfe.
Fyfe is a generational player.
Some of his aerial attacks as a mid were freakish. An absolute Bull too.
If he could only kick goals he would of been the goat.

That's not what he means, he means first ball winner, the guy at the stoppage going for the ball straight off the rucks hand and attracting the tacklers allowing the others to defend, go ground ball or spread. Not his overall ability.

TBH with his height and good stand-up-in-the-contest strength, but poor acceleration, I think it's his best position.

Bro Johnson tested 3rd for agility and recorded a sub 3 second 20 m sprint in the draft combine, he definitely doesn't have poor acceleration. He is literally in the same mould of a player as Mundy and should be playing a similar role.

His kicking and decision making isn’t close to Mundy but extracting while on ball, taking a tackle and feeding it off he can do, he can do really well. Like Young, he doesn’t have to solely do that but I think it’s not co-incidence we rested Fyfe and he had comfortably his best game.

I think Raz can play that role to but I think MJ is better at it and frankly, a lot on here are bemoaning lack of skill in the midfield, I’m not as harsh on Raz as others but he’s not improving the skill level, that’s for sure. Effort, contest and defence maybe, not skill

His kicking into the forward line on the weekend was very good.
Not high or loopy. I think Erasmus gets rated harshly due to being the sub.
Once he settles you can see him get to work.

In his draft year, his kicking and decision making were pretty good. It wasn't Mundy level but I would say it was close. Johnson was at his best when he was on the end of a clearance similar to the way Mundy played. I'm happy with the way Freo are developing him for now, but I want to see him on the receiving end of more clearances especially when entering I50.

I’m with others wanting Ras to stay at Peel for another couple of weeks to prove this game wasn’t a fluke and for his own benefit because his start to the year has been way too interrupted. There is nothing Freo fans like doing then pumping up their kids (particularly top picks), I think Ras gets rated on what he’s shown (outside a couple of poster exceptions on here).

When Ras does get back into the side though, it can’t be as sub and he needs a block of games, agree there

So he has to keep proving himself while others play poorly at afl level

If you are arguing that we are going in "a man down" by playing Erasmus, surely we are already going in a man down by playing O'Meara based on current form? I say this and I am not an O'Meara hater, but objectively Erasmus is faster, a better tackler and is really in top form in the WAFL. Size wise Erasmus is also arguably better, and he is better in the air too. O'Meara might be a better goal kicker if he gets the ball, but he isn't doing much of that at this moment. So why not Erasmus for O'Meara?
I would be happy with anything to get Jom out of the side.
Ras is young and can only get better.
Jom is cooked.
Needs to be in a supporting role at peel.
If he can find form which I strongly doubt, he will good back up.

People don't understand that at AFL level it's about the role you play.

Erasmus is on ball or bust. Him getting BOG at peel means absoloutly nothing for a wing role. His skills aren't good enough at AFL level to play on the wing. We are yet to see if they are even good enough to play on the inside. When he has been given his few chances at AFL level he has been far worse than Omeara, and that is terrible.

The worst part about the people so desperate for Erasmus in, is most of them probably didn't even watch his game, just judging off stats.

Paddy Dow got BOG every week in the VFL and got deslisted by Carlton despite being a high draft pick. Plenty of WAFL insode mids have won the association best and fairest but have never even been close to getting drafted.

Slowish inside mids with poor kicking ability need to be special to get a game in a side that's contending. Jaeger is lucky to be getting a gig for sure, but at the end of the day he has a better kick than Erasmus. Johnsons pace and skills are much better suited to the wing than Erasmus, and even he has struggled this season out there.

Guys like Tom Mitchell and Wines were good enough to win brownlows when given their role full time, but the game has even gone past them despite them both being prime age (yes I know titch still gets a gig but he is subbed out or rested regularly despite how good he has proven to be).

It sucks but we simply have to bide our time with Erasmus until he pushes Fyfe out. If he forces a trade to another club in the mean time it's is what it is.
