Roast Media Shakes Head, Part 8

And the AFL website keep topping up the Kool Aid with their blind support that it’s never Ken’s fault…. Now it’s injuries, and how we’ve never had “the complete package”.

Hinkley needs a fit and firing Dixon if it wants flag glory

If Port Adelaide is going to go all the way this year, it is going to need the best version of Charlie Dixon, and it's going to need him all year. Injuries have cruelled Dixon's, and consequently Port's, last two seasons, but in Saturday night's loss to Melbourne the big forward reminded us of what he brings. Dixon clunked marks and broke packs, but unfortunately didn't finish the job on the scoreboard. If he can get his kicking boots on - and keep them on until the end of the Power's campaign - Ken Hinkley just may finally have the complete package at his command. – Howard Kimber

Probably the only possible chance of a GF appearance is Dixon being kept out for the majority of the year, and Lord (when he returns) recapturing some of his late season form from last year.

All points probably very unlikely to occur.

"Complete package"- makes it sound like Hinkley needs 80s Hawthorn, 92 & 94 Eagles or Brisbane early 2000s to have any possible chance of succeeding.

And yet, he was out for almost half of 'The Streak:tm:' last year.

you can't just drop Dixon just because it helps the gameplan. he's a main face of our branding, he has tattoos and he's big and burly, he looks like what people interstate think Port men look like. then there's having to explain to the media why you've dropped him - what would you say? nah it's far too difficult. kind of like how we couldn't drop Tom Jonas because he was the captain and it would just look bad if he was playing SANFL. we shouldn't worry about it too much anyway, it's just a game!

Loved the Dwayne Russell commentary yesterday ...

"Another behind by West Coast. They are still in this! If they had kicked straight, they would be right with Port."

Score at the time... View attachment 1931495 ... No mention that Port had just missed umpteen easy chances, and should have been a lazy 10 goals ahead!!

Did it 2 or 3 times, then finally shut up. I know they do it to keep the oppo team audience engaged, but grief, they can sprout crap at times!
And if Geelong had missed every single shot at goal in the 2007 GF, Port would have won by a point 🥴.

Heard a replay of Timmy G's on air commentary of that incident - was pretty good. Went something like

'he's so far out of bounds his boots got wet from the Torrens'
That's Timmy's best line since the 2014 elimination final against Richmond. He couldn't resist a dig at Troy Chaplin when he said, "That's the first time in his career where Troy Chaplin has hit a Port Adelaide player on the chest."

Another classic Monday article from Rucci 🙄. And could the timing be any better given the fed-up fans had to sit through another Saturday night Hinkleyball special under lights.

Who the * are these pieces written for? And more worryingly, who from the club actually thinks they’re a good idea? Christ almighty.

Ultimate game day experience?

the experience at Adelaide Oval is stale and boring and has no imagination at all

  • how many years of the same boring old Perfect Pear garbage?
  • Crappy sponsor competition at 1/4 time. This time its picking ingredients to make a hot cross bun.. exctiting!!!
  • fryday night footy KFC rubbish where they pick out someone in the crowd air drumming
  • 1st goal of the game which has been happening for years (this one i dont actually mind..)
  • NTUA has jumped the shark and is just cringeworthy
  • Port loses another night game at home after dominating every stat except the score

Our game day experience is terrible

Dixon has also made it pretty clear he is happy with Port's results of late. Anyone who is capable of winning a flag would be absolutely furious at all the wasted chances.
Not just happy with them, but actively hostile towards anybody who isn't happy with them.

The one where Michael Voss was named Carlton coach in the immediate aftermath of the Bulldogs Prelim, and Rucci declared it another resounding vote of confidence and feather in the cap for Hinkley’s football program off the back of previous Port assistants (Richardson, Walsh, Nicks) being headhunted for senior jobs.

It’s like… what?

Ken Hinkley triumphantly proves the doubters wrong as Michael Voss coaches The Blues to a Prelim Final loss.

Dixon is the exact sort of player you need to drop/trade/throw in the Port River to win a flag, he's like the embodiment of doing the same thing over 'n over and expecting a different result.
Dixon, Clurey, Boak (Hinkley) will be our A.Jarman, McDermott, McGuinness (Shaw)…

Clurey a bit unlucky to be on that list given he barely plays. If Lycett was still there would probably have been him.

Still been here for 12 years and mediocrity is rife amongst the playing group, I don’t actually blame these three for our Cultural issues, I think the issue is far beyond the changeroom.

Still, Clurey in this week please

Yep, but the coach could change the forward entries.
